Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Namine blinked, opening her eyes fully to look at Roxas. "I hope so," she responded quietly. She was tired, and she felt decent. She was shaken up, but she hoped it wouldn't keep her awake. Or trigger any more nightmares...

 

Roxas gazed at Namine for a moment before he tilted his head to the side. He was concerned, and was contemplating whether he should sit with her. Maybe it would help her, but he knew that he would feel more comfortable about Namine sleeping without nightmares if he was with her. "You want me to stay with you?" he wondered aloud, his voice soft.

 

Namine was surprised at the request, but not bothered by it at all. In fact, it would make her feel better if somebody was nearby. Maybe that would keep away the nightmares. "Sure," she said, a small smile appearing on her lips.

 

Roxas nodded, a smile appearing as he made his way toward Namine. Once by the couch, he sat down next to her in silence. The boy stared down at his hands in his lap for a moment before he turned his head to meet Namine's gaze.

 

Namine met Roxas' gaze and smiled weakly, blue eyes reflected tiredness. She had no clue what the time was, but it didn't really matter. Something told her that he sleep schedule would be out-of-whack for the next few days. Especially if she kept getting nightmares...The girl exhaled softly, allowing her eyes to flicker shut. She didn't want to think about that.

 

Roxas lifted the arm closest to the girl. "Nam, come here," he requested gently, a small smile finding a place on his face. She looked exhausted, but not very comfortable in the way she was sitting.

 

Namine opened her eyes, immediately seeing Roxas' position. A small smile reappeared on her face again and she obeyed without thought, scooting over toward the blond boy who was being so kind to her. She tilted her head slightly, letting it rest lightly on Roxas.

 

Roxas's smile grew a little more, his arm winding around Namine's shoulders. He looked down at the girl, her blonde hair next to his cheek. He couldn't help but realize that he offered his shoulder without thought, something he had always done before with Namine, when she still had her memories. Roxas's smile faded slightly, his hand resting on Namine's upper arm.

 

Namine blinked softly, eyes only opening up again half-way. She felt perfectly comfortable now, and that was something she hadn't felt in a long time. But still,there was something nagging at the back of her mind...something she couldn't put into words. It felt like it was really important, too.

 

Roxas closed his eyes, the soft cackle of the fire and sound of the rain acting as a lullaby. But he remembered that he had his own, one that he had sung to Namine once or twice before, when they were in this same position and going through harder times. He smiled very faintly, his voice projecting through closed lips as he hummed the soft tune in his head.

 

Namine exhaled a silent breath, the sounds of her thoughts being drowned out by a familiar tune. Her eyes flickered shut completely, the girl's body becoming less tense as Roxas held her under his arm. So...familiar...she thought tiredly, trying to stay awake enough to place the tune. But it wasn't working; she was already drifting into unconsciousness.

 

Roxas continued humming the tune, his soft voice filling the room. The song was putting even him to sleep, making him feel more drowsy. He tilted his head back and to the side slightly, his face angled toward Namine as his hair was pressed against the back of the couch, his voice still carrying through the room.

 

Thunder rumbled throughout the room, but Namine was unaware of it. The only thing she heard was that humming. And, even at the moment she drifted off to sleep, the humming continued to ring in her ear, reminding her of a time not too long ago.

 

Roxas could feel himself slipping. His hold on Namine loosened slightly and his humming began to soften. The rain hitting the windows wasn't helping him fight consciousness, and neither was the comfort he found in being this close to Namine. He guessed that was okay, though. No, more than okay--great. It felt like old times, and the song he was humming made him think the same thing.

 

A picture came to Namine's mind. No, not a picture--a scene. She was sitting on the couch where she was now, and seeing herself as if she were at a distance, Namine saw her that her dream self was tearing up. But she was smiling at the same time, due to the boy who was sitting close-by. He was playing his guitar, and a song could be heard. The music started softly, but soon Namine could hear it. One part of the song stuck out more than any other.

The song was written for her.

 

Roxas's humming came to a stop, the boy losing the battle with unconsciousness. Sleep took over, the boy's body relaxing as the warmth of the fire touched him, as well as the warmth in his heart--from the girl beside him, the one he loved.

 

Hours of slumber passed by. Namine didn't have any other significant dreams--more like pictures and snapshots from a former life. She saw a few where Sora and Kairi were together, but she saw more than a few of herself with Roxas. She saw them standing in the snow one winter, right about to kiss. And then sitting by the fire. And him carrying her in his arms on their way to his home. She was asleep at the time, but she saw it clearly in her dreams.

 

Roxas had a deep sleep, no dreams popping up during the night. He was simply content, and even when he was unconscious, he knew why. Roxas's hold on Namine tightened slightly as the boy moved a little in his sleep, his chin tucking to his chest.

 

Namine was unaware of the sunlight that now poured into Roxas' living room. She was trying to hold onto her dreams, trying to remember more of her life. The girl was also unaware that during the night, she had shifted slightly so that she was facing Roxas more. Her head was still on his shoulder, but now she also had an arm lightly wrapped across his stomach.

 

Roxas felt warmth all around him, the sound of birds chirping entering his ears. He took in a heavy breath before slowly letting it out, not wanting to leave the comfort of his sleep. But he felt kind of hot, specifically on his face. Cracking one bright blue eye open, Roxas's gaze automatically locked on the window nearby, the sunlight making him close his eyes again.
