Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Sora brought a hand to the back of his head, rubbing over his spikes. He didn't know why, but he felt sheepish after seeing Roxas' expression for a brief moment. It was strange...but he shook it off, knowing that he was probably just over analyzing the situation.

Namine exhaled silently, looking down at her brown flip-flops. There was nothing she could do now but wait...unless she couldn't stand still, then she would go clean the house or something. But everything's already clean, she thought. She shook it off, shaking her head slightly at the thought. "Pull it together," she mumbled. "This isn't a date or anything." After all, Roxas had invited Sora and Kairi along. That proved that it was just a gathering of friends....right?

 

Kairi looked to her side, squeezing Sora's hand slightly when her sight fell on him. A small smile came to her lips. She didn't know why... Wait, yes she did. It was Sora that brought the smile to her face. He always did, and she loved him for it.

Yeah, there was nothing wrong with what he was wearing. Sneakers, dark jeans, and a white t-shirt. No big deal. Roxas ran a hand through his hair. Why was he stressing over this? There was really no reason to...right?

 

Sora lowered his hand and looked over at Kairi, a small smile appearing on his lips. He gave her hand a light squeeze, holding her gaze. After their talk yesterday, he was glad things were alright between them. Of course, Kairi had been more upset than he had been, and he had done everything he could to make her feel better. And judging by how she looked at him now, he knew things were alright.

Namine moved to sit in a chair. Ty was no where to be found; he was probably sleeping some place. The girl smiled faintly, tucking some hair behind her ear. She loved that dog...but not as much as she loved her friends. After all, the love she had for a pet couldn't compare to the bonds human friends had. Even if she didn't remember everything, her feelings were the same. Right?

 

Kairi's smile grew more at the sight of Sora's. She held his gaze, concentrating on his eyes. Their blue color seemed to pop in the sunlight, making her stare for a second before she shyly dropped her gaze. She looked ahead instead, smiling to herself.

Roxas brought a hand to his shoulder, scratching there for a second. The gesture moved the slight v-neck collar of his tee. He didn't mind it, though, and just kept walking. Namine's house was right by him now, and he turned down the pathway to her home. Roxas's blue eyes gazed up at the house, knowing who was waiting inside.

 

Sora looked to the ground, seeing Kairi's shyness. Not only did he see it, but he also felt it. After all, their hearts were connected. And because of that, they often shared the same emotions.

Namine folded her hands in her lap, blankly gazing down at them. She wasn't thinking of anything in particular...in fact, she was trying not to think at all. She had done enough thinking in the past two days, and now the only thing she wanted to do was live her life. But that was hard to do without her memories... Stop thinking like that! she told herself, mentally scolding herself for being so critical. No matter what the circumstances, today was going to be a good day.

 

Kairi followed behind Roxas silently, still hand-in-hand with Sora. She was excited for today, whatever it was they were going to do.

Roxas's eyes locked onto the door as he approached it, skipping up the steps to the porch. He brought a hand up and rang the doorbell in silence, knowing his friends were behind him. He knew, too, who was behind this door, and just thinking about her made Roxas excited to see her.

 

Sora came to a stop behind Roxas, his eyes finding the door. Honestly, he didn't know what to expect from Namine. By the sound of it, it seemed like she was recovering pretty quickly. He was glad for that, but she wasn't fully recovered yet, and that concerned him. None of them knew if this damage was perminant or not, but they all talked as if she would get her memories back. She had to remember them eventually...right?

Namine looked up, hearing the doorbell echo through the house. A small smile appeared on her lips as she got up from her spot and headed to the front door. It only took her a few brief moments to get there, and then she opened the door. Three teens stood outside, and the first one was Roxas. "Hi," she said with a smile, slowly pushing open the second screen door that was between her and her friends.

 

Roxas felt a small smile spread across his face at the sight of Namine, the boy taking a step back as she opened the screen door. "Hey," he greeted lightly. "Ready to go?" His eyes were locked on her, noticing her attire. Though simple, it really looked great on her.

Kairi smiled kindly at the blonde girl before her, happy to see her again.

 

Namine nodded slightly. "Yeah," she said, a smile staying on her lips. The blond girl took a step outside, closing the door behind her before turning back to her friends.

Sora had a small smile on his lips the whole time, noticing that Namine seemed alright. Not depressed like he had half-expected; she was coping with the situation and living her life anyway. And seeing that in her made him know that she would recover from this.

 

Kairi tucked some of her hair behind her ear with her free hand, her eyes flashing between the two blondes. "Where to, you guys?" she asked in wonderment, looking at all three of her friends.

Roxas scratched the side of his head, his other hand in his pocket as he thought this over. After a second, he looked at his friends. "Smoothies?" he suggested lightly. It was a pretty warm day, and he was kind of craving one.

 

Sora nodded. "Sounds good to me," he said, liking the idea. He couldn't remember the last time he had a good smoothie. Okay, maybe it wasn't that long ago, but he craved one at that moment anyway.

Namine nodded, reaching up to tuck back a piece of hair that the wind had blown out of place. Smoothies sounded like a good idea--she had lunch a little while ago, so she was starting to get an appetite.

 

Roxas nodded. "Alright, let's go," he said, glancing back at the blonde girl next to him. Even though it had only been about 24 hours since the incident, it felt good to be with everyone again.

Kairi nodded. She couldn't wait to get one of those cold beverages--it hadn't been that long, but still she was wanting one.

 

Sora nodded once more. "Okay," he said, turning around and starting down the path. Since he had been the last one to get to Namine's house, he was in the back of the group now. So it was natural that he would be the first one to start walking.

 

Kairi turned and followed Sora, descending the small set of steps from the porch. A gentle breeze blew her red hair behind her shoulders, temporarily freeing her from the summer heat.

Roxas watched his friends and then turned to Namine. He held out an arm. "After you," he said with a small smile. It was only polite, plus he was still very protective of Namine, even if she didn't recall that.

 

Sora turned and headed in the direction of the cafe, knowing that his friends were close behind him.

Namine smiled softly, looking to Roxas briefly. "Thanks," she said softly, stepping past him as she followed her other two friends. Knowing what she knew now, she could see why she dated Roxas. She didn't know if they were a couple at that moment, but she couldn't deny that she wanted them to be together.

 

Roxas nodded slightly before bringing up the rear. He followed his friends from Namine's house, heading in the direction of the cafe. He just got this giddy feeling inside him, like things were going to be good today.

 

Sora turned his head slightly to look behind him, and he noticed Kairi was only a step behind him. He slowed a little bit and then subtly reached for her hand. No words left his lips, but a small smile had formed during the whole thing.

 

Kairi looked down at the action, but smile all the same. She lightly grasped Sora's hand, glancing up at him before turning her sight forward once more.

Roxas walked barely even a step behind Namine, hands back in his pockets as he followed his two friends that were in the lead. It felt relieving to be together again after the recent events, mostly because it was like they were trying to get back to normal with things. And they were, even if some things weren't that way.

 

Sora turned his head toward Kairi for a brief moment before facing forward again, a smile on his lips. It was the small things in life that really mattered, and he knew that as long as he showed Kairi his love for her in simple ways like this, she would always feel cared for. After everything they had been through together, he always put up an effort to make her feel loved.

Namine saw Sora hold Kairi's hand and she couldn't help but smile. Those two obviously loved each other...even more than she knew at that moment. But it was enough to warm her heart, because if her friends were happy, then she was happy. She didn't need her memories to recognize that truth.

 

Kairi watched as a car passed by them, the girl walking alongside her boyfriend on the sidewalk. The cafe was in the city, but not that far from the park. What a coincidence--they all loved hanging out at the park, and also getting the smoothies from the cafe. It was strange how things worked out like that.

Roxas turned his head away from watching the car pass and looked forward again, his eyes instantly falling on his best friends' hands. He smiled faintly. He remembered how he and Namine were similar, not afraid to show their feelings in public, even if they were slight hints. He missed that... He really did.
