Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Namine started to blush at the attention, seeing out of the corner of her eye that Roxas wasn't going to help her. Thanks a lot! she thought sarcastically, feeling a bit desperate. She discretely slid the phone behind her back and then picked up the menu, holding it in front of her face.

 

"Um, so..." Roxas tried, glancing up at his friends. He decided it was best to try and help Namine out somehow. He felt kind of bad just leaving her to deal by herself. "...Anybody considering the fettucini?" Roxas lifted a hand to run over his hair as he stared at the menu. He had a feeling his question wouldn't work as he planned, though.

 

Sora only laughed at the question. Seriously, Roxas? he mused, a smirk appearing on his lips. He brought up a hand and lightly held onto the upper part of Namine's menu before taking it away. "This isn't your battle, Namine," he said calmly. "Trust me; you don't wanna get between me and Roxas."

Namine nervously tucked a strand of blond hair behind her ear. "I don't know what you're talking about," she said, blinking her eyes twice in innocence. But she wasn't a great liar; surely they could all see through her act.

 

Kairi arched an eyebrow, becoming suspicious of Roxas and Namine's behavior. "You two are hiding something. Surely it's Sora's phone," she declared, looking at her friends. This was definitely an interesting night, already.

Roxas glanced up from the words on his menu to look at the couple on the other side of the table. Sora was right, though--it was never a good idea to get between him and Sora when they were in the middle of something, either an argument, bet, or playful banter such as this.

 

Namine lowered her gaze in embarrassment, her bangs covering her eyes. "I don't have it," she lied softly, suppressing the urge to smile. Her cheeks got a little more rosy, but she hoped that nobody would notice that.

Sora smirked softly. "Namine," he requested softly, leaning forward in his seat. He extended a hand toward her, keeping it open so that she could place the phone right into his palm.

 

Kairi looked at the girl across from her, her eyebrow no longer up. Poor Namine. She really had gotten a lot of playful pressure within the last few minutes. Kairi couldn't help but smile weakly at her. She might as well give up now so she'll no longer have to go through this torture. Sora won't quit until he has his phone back in his own hands.

 

Namine leaned forward slightly, keeping her eyes away from Sora's. She reached behind her and pulled out the phone. Then she lightly set it in Sora's hand, a smile of surrender appearing on her lips.

Sora smiled widely. "Good choice," he said happily, pulling back his phone before Roxas could steal it again. He immediately looked through his pictures and noticed that, since Roxas was so excited earlier, he had forgotten to delete the picture.

 

Roxas turned his head to look at the girl beside him. He smiled softly at her, almost apologetically for his sense of betrayal earlier. He lightly set a hand on her knee, rubbing it for a second before letting it rest.

Kairi's smile grew slightly once she leaned over and noticed that Sora was looking at the picture. It wasn't the picture that was making her smile, but the fact that it hadn't been deleted. Roxas... After all that trouble and the photo was still there.

 

Namine turned her head to look at Roxas, a weak smile appearing on her lips. She really wasn't a good liar at all, but she was sure that was a good thing rather than bad.

Sora grinned, holding his phone right in front of him. "You forget something, Roxas?" he asked with a smirk, nodding slightly to the phone he held tightly in front of him.

 

Roxas turned his attention forward, his eyes immediately focusing on the phone. He frowned. "I guess I did..." he acknowledged. Darn. Now he had to deal with the taunting that still came along with that picture. But at least he had the puppy-pout on Sora now...

 

Sora grinned, catching the disappointed look in Roxas' eyes. "Here," he said, shutting the phone right before he tossed it across the table to his best friend.

Namine watched the scene, confused. What was Sora doing...? Why in the world would he let Roxas have his phone back after all the trouble he went through trying to get it back?

 

Roxas caught the phone swiftly, even though he was caught off guard. He looked at the phone in his hand before switching his gaze to his best friend across the table. What was Sora doing?

 

Sora smiled warmly before leaning back in the booth. "I'd say it's time for a clean slate, wouldn't you say so?" he asked, looking his friend directly in the eye. "Do what you gotta do, and you better appreciate it; you're not getting another opportunity like this for a long time."

 

Kairi looked between both boys, smiling at Sora's gesture. It was very mature and nice of him to do something like this for Roxas, even if it meant giving up his best item for the playful banter. She was proud of him, though, because she was sure Roxas appreciated it.

Roxas immediately smiled at his friend, knowing why he called him a "best friend" now. He nodded once before opening the phone and immediately going to the pictures. He winced when he saw the picture of him and selected "delete". In just a few seconds, the ever popular photo was gone.

 

Namine smiled softly, looking over at the phone in Roxas' hand as he permanently deleted the picture. Of course, Namine was sure it was gone forever; Sora wouldn't have had more than one copy and bring it back up another day--he was much more classy than that.

Sora crossed his arms lightly, a faint smile staying on his lips as he watched Roxas delete the picture. Really, he had no regrets. It had been fun while it lasted, but now it was time to get rid of that horrible picture. After a while, Sora was sure that the pressure of that picture would have actually made Roxas more stressed. He was determined to end it before it got to that point.

 

Roxas smiled in relief and gratitude, happy to see the embarrassing picture go. He flipped the phone shut and looked back up at Sora, stretching his arm out across the table with the phone in hand. "Thanks, man," he said, his blue eyes on the pair identical on the other side of the table.

 

Sora smiled and uncrossed his arms, leaning forward. He took the phone out of Roxas' hand and stuck it back in his pocket. "Just watch yourself," Sora warned playfully. "Next time I get something like that, I'm not gonna drop it for a while." He was serious about his threat, but he also said that to take some of Roxas' thanks off of him. Sora sometimes did feel awkward about receiving thanks when he did something that was just naturally right.

 

Roxas smirked then, lifting an eyebrow. "Likewise," he warned as well. He was sure there had to be something to match the picture Sora had...well, once had of him. There were plenty of oppurtunities; they always did random things together, all four of them.

Kairi chuckled quietly. Boys will be boys.

 

Sora grinned, getting excited over their unspoken game. "You got it," he said with a chuckle.

"I'm sorry that took so long," the waiter said, just then appearing with their drinks. He wordlessly set them in front of the four teens before standing upright again. "What can I get you guys to eat?"

Namine stole a look at Roxas' menu, since Sora had taken hers earlier. "I'll have the veal," she said, thinking at that moment how delicious that sounded.

Sora looked over at the waiter. "Spaghetti," he requested politely, folding up his menu along with Namine's. He sent her an apologetic smile, which she immediately smiled in forgiveness to.

 

Kairi glanced down at her menu. "Um, chicken alfredo for me, please," she requested softly, then folding up her menu.

Roxas already knew what he wanted and smiled in confidence as he looked at the waiter. "Penne for me," he said, folding his menu up. He was starving, and the sound of the food made his stomach quietly grumble.
