You could still have the first generation, the only model that was backwards compatable was the 20GB model and that died in a very short period of time.

All of them up through the post MGS 80GB except the 40GB had PS2 backwards compatibility to a certain extent. Different models had better or worse levels of it.

Based on your logic, a CD Player plays CDs and so it must be able to play PS1 games.
Older PC games came on CDs, so they must be playable on PS1, PS2, and PS3.
X [] O Games come on DVDs, so it must be possible to play them in a DVD player.
PS2 games are DVDs, so if I hook up a DVD reader to my printer, it should be able to play DVDs.

    Get the idea?

You're logic is skewed. Reading it is only half of it. The other half is the software to run it. As far as I've read, they all have the software to run PS games. They can read CDs and they have the software to run said CDs so you can play said CDs. You assumed that I said everything invovled in the process, which was stupid. You should be able to connect the dots yourself if you think you're so smart.

But you didn't say that. You should say what you mean. Anyway, the coding of PS1/2/3 games are very different in that they use different programming languages. If I remember correctly, second-current generation PS3s only recognize PS3 programming language. Granted there are the PS1 classics for the PS3, but they aren't the original games on the disks. I also believe there is a PS2 Emulator for the PS3, but I'm not sure and if I'm right it isn't official anyway.
