First Fall of Crimson Snow

Elsie smiled after she heard Raven's words. "Yeah, Scott over there is like you... So is Alyssia and Seth." Seeing that Fay went inside, Elsie knew that it was left up to her to help the new girl get settled in. Or that's what she figured. She felt her heart sink. 'Oh man... and I thought I would get some time to put some herbs on my wounds...' Nonetheless, Elsie smiled and walked inside the cabin before Scott and Kendra reached them. "Okay, first things first. This is our base. Make yourself at home, but keep in mind there are a few rules. Don't wander off unless you tell someone where you're going, and be respectful to the leaders too. There's more, but I don't want to bore people." Elsie led the way to the staircase and carefully walked up it. "Up here is the sleeping rooms. I'll show you your room."

"It was nice to meet you as well..." Rowan stood up from the chair and wandered away from Ren without taking a second glance at her. 'All in due time, she could come out of that cage.'

Rowan slid out of the secret stairway to the hallway. It was darker outside, probably meaning that a storm was brewing outside since it wasn't evening just yet. Rowan sighed out as the doors behind her closed. "Might as well get dinner on the roll," she muttered under her breath. Supplies were getting low, and it was about time to meet up with their supplier shortly. It was risky to get to him, but he always gave them what they needed and even a bit more.

Kendra wrinkled her nose as she thought about it. She never felt the need to do anything with her feathers. They just fell out naturally. "My arms are too short to reach my feathers to do anything," she said as she walked to the door. "And besides, even if I did 'prune' them, I dont think they'll become waterproof." Kendra folded in her wings so she could fit through the door and pressed them against her back. She did see a new girl, but didn't feel the need to approach her and introduce herself just yet...

 

Fay took a few steps towards the area where it led to the basement, but soon saw Rowan come up. "Hey," she called, walking towards her. "We got a new addition to the group." She nodded her head towards Raven, soon seeing Elsie was taking care of everything. She opened her mouth to protest, but soon saw Alyssia walk towards the two girls.

"Elsie, why don't you let Fay and Rowan let her get acquainted? You need to rest," Alyssia quickly said before they went up the stairs any further. She reached her hand forward and lightly grabbed Elsie's hand, being careful not to hurt her.

 

Elsie glanced at Alyssia when she touched her hand and stopped walking up the stairs. She smiled slightly to show Alyssia she acknowledge what she said, but her eyes told differently. They showed relief. "Okay, sounds like a good idea to me," she said, trying to not sound too eager. She flashed a smile at Raven and patted her on the shoulder as she walked by. "Don't worry, Fay and Rowan are really nice once you get to know them. I hope you enjoy your stay. See you around!" She rounded the corner to where she saw Fay and Rowan and gave them a brief smile while mouthing 'Thank you'. She walked past the two of them and headed to the infrimery room where she could get a look at her wounds and maybe medicate them.

Rowan sighed out softly when Elsie walked by them, realizing what she did. 'Elsie would've went anyways,' she thought, 'whether anyone told her yes or no.' She stepped out of the basement and looked at Fay. She was exhausted still, since she couldn't sleep very well during the day. And her mind was weighed down with all that needed to be done. The light of the lightning flashed through the house, and then thunder shortly came after that. The rain was starting to come down now, Rowan heard it. 'Another stormy day...' Finally, Rowan smiled a bit at her commrade. "Newcomer eh?" Rowan walked past Fay and walked up to Raven. She smiled a genuine smile while examining the girl. "Name is Rowan, and your name?" Before Rowan let Raven say her name, she looked over at Kendra and Scott who were standing by the door. Instantly her leader instincts kicked in. "Hey Kendra, you know how to cook stew, right?"

Before Kendra had a chance to answer Scott, she heard what Rowan said and turned to her quickly. "Y-yeah." Of course she knew how to cook. She didn't do nothing while she was stuck in her house all day.

"Why don't you and Scott head to the kitchen and get dinner started. You'll find what you need in the cupboards." Canned things were all that they had at this place. It was too late to plant a garden here, and she figured that the other one was destoryed when the RNA members came through.

Kendra nodded her head once, and then folded her wings completely in through the slits in her shirt. She saw Elsie earlier, wrapped up in the bandages. Rowan had many things on her mind, and she didn't know what happened to Drake. Fay also seemed busy, so it seemed to Kendra that it was only fair that she was given a task. Scott was invited to come. She looked over her shoulder to him. "Guess that's what I'm doing... unless you want to come." Kendra was going to have Scott answer that whenever he wanted, because Kendra started to walk towards the kitchen to get started.

When Rowan saw that Kendra quickly went to do what she was told, she couldn't help but to smile a bit. She then turned her attention back to Raven, waiting for the girl to introduce herself.

Elsie winced in pain as she took the last piece of bandage off her left arm and let it fall on the bed. Her arm was trembling with pain. Tears were threatening to leak out, but Elsie held them back. She looked down at her arm and just stared at it as it quivered lightly. In the candlelight (since Elsie didn't want to use up too much power) she could see that the cuts were deeper than Elsie thought. Only two of many cuts on this arm looked like they needed stitches. How was she suppose to give herself stitches? She didn't do well with needles, or blood. She didn't show that to anyone, because she felt weak. Here she had the responsibilities of being the medic, and she couldn't stand blood or needles. What a joke.

Elsie had to close her eyes and turn away from her arm. The tears were starting to trail down her cheeks, whether she was ready or not to cry. "Don't cry," Elsie said to herself in a shakey voice. "You'll be okay..." Elsie then opened her eyes as they rested on her own medical box that she put together herself a long time ago. Everything would still be in good shape. And if she remembered correctly, she collected some pretty good herbs. Elsie smiled through her tears and then she opened the box. By the dim light, she looked in to see she was right. There were homemade antibiotics and many things she could use. She pulled out one of the many small metal containers and opened it. The smell of the herbs were strong, but it gave Elsie a sense of comfort. She set it not too far away from her and scrapped some of the oinment on her fingers. Elsie then took in a quick breath as she held her fingers with the ointment over the cuts. "This is going to sting," she told herself. She gently rubbed the ointment on the smaller cuts.

Instantly, Elsie bit her lip and tried hard to keep back a little yelp that was trying to escape. Her arm felt like it was on fire and it felt like tiny needles were stabbing it as well. She clutched her arm and doubled over it, trying to make the pain stop. Elsie remembered that this was straight antibiotic. It wasn't like the ones that people buy from the store, the ones that had the anti-pain mixed in with it. So it was going to hurt to apply it on open cuts. Eventually, Elsie slowly sat up and looked down at it. This was going to be harder than she thought.

Clay huddled within a hollow tree, clutching his long jacket over him as the rain beat outside. The storm was coming down so hard, it was hard to see straight through it. No one could get through this, not even the animals of the forest. Clay cursed under his breath and looked down at the ground. The elements were against them today...

 

"alright I should change the bandages on my shoulder" Drake muttered as he walked to the infirmary and noticed somebody in there "huh? who could possibly be in there" Drake said as he walked in but was surprised "what the?" Drake said noticing Elsie's wounds and ran forward to her "how did this happen? were you attacked? did you fall?" Drake said looking very worried as he said that "or did you push yourself with those wounds?" Drake said. The moment he said that he looked really annoyed

 

Startled by Drake's voice, she almost knocked over the metal container. Quickly catching it before it fell off the bed, she set it to the side carefully on the nightstand and looked up at Drake. She gave a small smile, glad that she she didn't attempt to rub more of the antibiotic on her wounds. "It's the results of yesterday," she said quietly while looking down at her hands. "I just need to treat them and disinfect them, that's all. They'll heal over time." She cleared her throat and brought her unbandage arm closer to her chest so Drake couldn't see it. She then looked up at him. "Do you want me to check out your shoulder? It's no trouble at all."

BIC: "Im fine but I know this isn't just from yesterday it should have healed more than this" Drake said examining her wounds "you pushed yourself didn't you" Drake said really annoyed

 

Elsie bit her bottom lip and looked at the floor. "No one else knows what we need..." Elsie said quietly. She closed her eyes and hung her head, not wanting to look at Drake. "No one knows what to look for... and a lot of plants look similar to the other plants." Elsie pulled her arm closer to herself as she carefully wrapped her other arm over it. "You guys told me that it's my job to treat people's wounds, to take care of the sick, and to make sure everyone is okay. There's just only me in that department. What else am I suppose to do if I'm the only one? You guys are too busy to do anything else. So this is my job. Whether I'm wounded or not, I'll keep going until I can't move anymore..." It was bold to speak to an upper ranking Peaceful Warrior, but Elsie couldn't hide back her thoughts anymore.

Kendra chuckled as she walked into the kitchen, listening to Scott's questions. "Yeah, sometimes it was just me and my little sister at the house, so I was the cook. I don't know if my cooking is that tasty... but my family didn't complain. And I don't know what stew to make. It depends what they have." Kendra walked up to what it seemed like a smaller version of a pantry and opened it. There were rows and rows of different cans, and then there were boxes of carrots, potatoes, and onions. Well, there was probably more than that, but Kendra couldn't tell. She browsed the cans, pulling out broth and cans of meat. She even found... "Spam?" She took it off of the shelf and examined it. She couldn't help but to chuckle. "I hadn't had spam in years..." As soon as she got an armful of supplies to cook the stew, she walked out of the pantry and plopped them on the counter. "Hm..."

 

Drake sighed calmly and closed his eyes "you push yourself way to hard" Drake said taking away antibiotics from her and gently began to rub it on her wounds and got ready to bandage them "your still young, you don't know how much it pains me to see you all get hurt like this. You have your whole life ahead of you so take it easy, don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it" Drake said

 

Elsie winced when Drake begain to apply the antibiotic on her skin. Her free hand clutched the bedsheets beside her and she gritted her teeth in pain. It burned so much, her eyes were starting to water. As soon as Drake was done, she relaxed a bit and looked down at her arm. It was shaking, but it felt a bit better. She didn't feel like telling Drake that there were two very deep cuts that looked like it needed stitches. "Everytime I want to ask for help, you guys are doing other stuff..." Elsie shut her mouth after that. Drake's words sunk into her mind, and it gave her sort of a guilt trip.

 

"it doesn't matter. Rowan and Fay may be busy at times but I am free. My job involves weaponry, training and spying. The only time I'm busy is when I'm out spying against the RNA and that's usually only when we have a good chance, so don't hesitate to ask me. You can also ask the kids for help, some of them would be glad to help" Drake said as he began wrapping her wounds

 

"Okay..." was all Elsie could manage to say. She watched as Drake wrapped her arm, thinking about what he told her. She decided it was best not to argue, and to just deal with it. What else was she suppose to do? The cuts on her legs were burning, but she decided those could wait. She looked at the candle and watched it as it flickerered.

 

Drake finished up wrapping the visible wounds he could see and looked at her "alright then where is the the other wounds and don't lie to me. I have been studying that wire trap so I sort of know what it can do" Drake said annoyed at the fact that she might lie to him

 

Sighing out, Elsie started to unwrap her right arm. The bandages fell away and she let them fall to the floor. She then ripped the bandage off her left cheek, since it was soiled from her tears and let it fall next to the other discarded bandages. The cut on her cheek still oozed a bit, but it was getting better. As for her right arm, some of the cuts were starting to form scabs. Others looked deep. She kept silent as she held her arm out to Drake.

 

"oh dear I guess it time to fix them up" Drake said as he got out what he needed and began treating her wounds to the best extent he could. He wasn't the best at medical care but he did have some experience. "alright now, Elsie I want you to close your eyes and try to endure okay?" Drake said with a comforting smile getting ready to stitch the two deep wounds on her arm

 

As soon as Elsie saw the needle, she freaked out a little. She hated needles, she didn't want anything to do with them. And now Drake was going to try to stitch her up. Last time she checked, he was a man of machinery, not a doctor. "Um, you s-sure this is a good idea, Drake?" Her voice cracked slightly towards the end, and she cursed herself in her mind for that. She just shut her eyes as tight as she could and turned the other way. "Just get over with it..."

Kendra froze when Scott suddenly eased his arms around her and put his hands on the counter. She felt her heart thud in her chest, and her cheeks getting warm again. What was she suppose to do? She chuckled nervously, looking down at the items. "Yeah... complex, but it's simple to put them together." Kendra nervously tapped her fingers on the countertop as she felt Scott's warm breath by her face. She couldn't turn around, that would be just awkward. But the position they were in now... "Um... not to be mean or anything... but uh... I need to... cook. S-stews take a while..." Kendra made her lips in a thin line as she quit tapping her fingers on the counter. She was nervous, very nervous. Scott didn't seem very interested in her, until now. It was starting to creep her out, but then again... it felt nice.

 

"don't worry it may not look like it but I have some knowledge about medical treatment" Drake said leaving out the fact that he was very rusty when it came to medical treatment. With the needle in his hand he took a deep breath in and out "start" Drake muttered quietly to himself as he began to stitch the wound
