If you guys have questions on certain sections of the rules that's one thing, and while we have grown harsher on some policies, it was a decision made by the entire staff. We are not intending to post these and start handing out bans, or that any miniscule comment will place you in major trouble, but we feel that there needs to be a bit of a wake up call for certain people. Arguments on semantics and "people just need to grow thicker skin" won't go far. I apologize if some of you feel victimized by this or are not welcoming the change, and as it says in the rules, you may contact us with problems, but please refrain from doing so in the spam zone of all places. We do have PM boxes.

The rules have been updated every year or so for some time now; the past version was about a year and half old, I believe?

I agree. Also it is a bad example because straight out calling someone an idiot is rare and people get punished for that post minus the direct insults pretty often.

    Real world examples, please.

its not the rules. I am talking about the mood of the staff towards the stuff that goes on in the spam zone. Why all of a sudden are we getting reprimanded for doing what we have been doing for years?

I just don't get why the majority of the staff seem to hate how we take to discussing everything in the spam zone. This place is the most active area of the forum, and personally I enjoy discussing issues here because we are a community and I feel community issues and such should not be one on one conversations if they are to be taken to heart. One person a community does not make.

Well, for one thing, it's a different administration; the way that things were handled by previous staff members (Sara, Kay, whoever) and our policies then still remain as as integral part of the current rules; yes, we have added things, but it's been in response to things we have seen as staff members and things we have been approached with by members. Unfortunately many of the things that we did add had been sort of unspoken rules, in the past. We did not want to continue working under the assumption that everyone understood them.

Past experiences tell me PMing staff would be even less helpful.

It comes down to "it was a staff decision, if you don't like it then I'm sorry" or "post a suggestion thread". No progress is made in individual conversations.

Semantics are everything when rules are the issue. In order to contest a staff decision, you must contest what is "proper", because they will use the word in their reason for enforcement. It is foolish to wait until you get punished for something to challenge the semantics. By then you are already a criminal and will be ignored as such.

I suspect I am taking over the thread, as usual...

    Real forum examples, then.

And you got on me for semantics...

I would hardly say that's the case, especially because many of us are frequent posters in here? lol. If, in your opinion, the spam zone's discussions work under basic disrespect for others, that's one thing, and I wish you luck in defending that as a system. I don't think that's the case.

Maki has a point here. I feel like we should look into clear cases as well as corner cases so people know when they're pushing it. Honestly, I don't really know what is considered acceptable based on the examples and description provided. I have a tendency to be a little brusque with people I don't know, which is a lot of you, and I also tend to correct people or constructively criticise or argue. People are going to misinterpret my meaning. It's going to happen and I'd like to know if I should just not say anything rather than be misunderstood.

No I mean discussions like this one. Staff tend to shy away from actually talking with us about important forum related things here in the spam zone and say "PM SOMEONE OR MAKE A SUGGESTION THREAD LOL". I'm not talking about the disrespectful banter we throw around here, though in my opinion that is an integral part of my wonderful spamzone experiences, I'm talking about the fact that everyone posts here, so it's the best place to really address issues and discuss with all of the members how we feel about things.

I agree. I know their are channels open for us to communicate. But some time I feel the staff doesn't really listen unless its making a stink in the Spam zone.

Agreed. I brought something similar to this up before but got an admin to rage at me.

Also, look at the rainbow in the currently viewing field. It is beautiful.
