Heavy, Non-Existent Heart

Even though things we're expected to be fine between Raiu and Saix, she couldn't help but feel something horrible and strange was going to happen. But maybe it was just senses acting up again... maybe she actually was.

 

Saix opened his eyes again. he yawned. "good morning." he sat up and yawned some more. Axel was gone, no sign of the rest of the organization... life was good.

 

Raiu looked at him as he rose up. "Oh, hi." She looked out her window, wondering if she should tell him about today or not. It was the anniversary of her mother's death after all and it was important. She tried to make it look like it wasn't troubling her.

 

Saix looked at her. he knew something was wrong. he figured he might as well ask what it was. "is something troubling you...?" Saix asked.

 

"Well, uh... do you remember how I told you my family was lost to darkness? Before that, it was my mother who was taken first by an illness. Today's the ainniversary of her death."

 

Saix nodded. "i'm sorry. that's really sad..." he sighed. under usual circumstances he wouldn't care. but these weren't usual circumstances. they were far from it.

 

"I go to visit her grave every year at the mountaintop. I was wondering... this year, could you... come with me?" Raiu looked at Saix with a sad look but it wasn't as sad this time as it usually was.

 

Saix didn't even have to think about it. without hesitation, he nodded. "of course." he hugged her tightly. he didn't know what to expect once they got to the grave site.

 

Raiu embraced him as well. She was happy for the first time in a long time. "Thank you. I don't wanna be alone when I go this time."

 

Saix nodded. "i promised i wouldn't leave you alone... didn't i?" he asked as he hugged tighter. for some reason... he felt warm inside.

 

"I know you did... but I was a little afraid that you didn't want to come." Raiu didn't want to let go so soon, she couldn't do it.

 

Saix sighed. "normaly i wouldn't... but... i would do it for you." he hugged tighter and the warm feeling grew even stronger than before.

 

Raiu buried her face into him, feeling warm and comforted. She didn't want him to leave at all. She started to have a tear coming down her, but these were tears of happiness.

 

Saix rested his head on hers. how long have they been hugging? 5? 10 minutes? he didn't care. he loved this. he'd go on forever if he could... but he knew that was impossible.

 

Raiu let go of him and wiped away her tears. She put on her boots, ready to go see her mother, who has long passed when Raiu was only 7. "OK, I'm ready to go."

 

Saix picked up his claymore. if the organization attacked while they were there, he didn't want to be caught unarmed. sure, he was strong. but there wouldn't be much he could do in a fight like that.

 

Raiu watched as Saix grabbed his weapon. She knew what he was thinking about. "You think the Organization would try to attack us again?"

 

Saix looked at her. "yes. they won't stop until i'm eliminated." he gave a small smile. "i'm ready to go." he walked to the door and opened it. "after you."

 

"Thanks." Raiu stepped outside and looked at the mountains behind the village. She saw the path she always took there and then the tallest peak, it usually took her a few hours to reach the gravesite. She pointed to the highest peak to let him know where it was. "It's up there. It usually takes me about 2-3 hours to get there."

 

Saix nodded. "i'll walk however long i have to." he looked at his claymore. "if they do attack... he had his crazy animal eyes. "i'll kill them all..."
