I just followed Crono's tut, and I thought that some of you might want to know how to make scanlines with GIMP. So here's how. (Note: This is how I do it. I don't remember reading any tuts on it, but I might have, so I DO NOT claim this as my own.)

1.Get the image you want to cover with scanlines. It can be a render, text, an avatar, or an entire sig. I'm covering an AIM icon. So, open your image. File>Open...

    2. Duplicate the Background. Layers>Duplicate Layer

    3. Go to "Filters>Disorts>Video." Set it to 3x3, and (Optional) check the box that says "Additive". If it's a light picture, check it. If it's meant to be dark, uncheck the box. Leave the other box unchecked.

4.Set the Duplicated to "Screen". If you don't like the look of "Screen", you can set it to something else. "Overlay", "Dodge", "Soft Light", "Diffrence", "Addition", "Subtract", and "Value" all look good.

Now you have your finished result!
