Well, I was having trouble sleeping awhile back, and as it turns out, there are a few tricks to help you get to sleep. First, do, let's see, what was it called? I think it was something like progressive muscle relaxation. All you have to do is tense up your muscles as hard as you can for ten seconds, starting with your feet and moving up slowly 'til you get to your shoulders, and then you'll feel more relaxed. Another thing you can do is just take ten or fifteen minutes in a sort of preperation time. Watching TV or being online is a tabboo for this time, as it stimulates your brain. Instead, do something else that will occupy your brain without taking too much of a strain. Read a couple chapters of a favorite book, draw a picture, just do soething to settle down your brain. Then make sure that your room is dark and cool. After this, go to bed and simply do not think about anything. If you absolutely must think of something, if you can't clear your mind, than just focus on a single color, picture it in your mind, idealy, a cool color like pale blue or soft green. It also helps if you can have calming music playing softly in the background. And don't think negative thoughts. If you think "I'm not going to be able to sleep," You're not going to be able to sleep. These tips should help you sleep tonight, and then to help prevent sleeplessness in the future, do these things: Try to get as much daylight as possible during the day. More daylight in the day helps you sleep better at night. Get plenty of exercise during the day. If you do something like Tai Chi or Yoga, this helps you sleep better at night. Eat relatively healthy, don't skip meals or gorge yourself on junk food, try to maintain a well baanced diet. Also, try not to take sleep-aids very often. Sometimes, it's neccessary, but while taking a pill to help you sleep gets you good sleep that night, taking sleep-aids too often will increase your chance of sleeplessness the next night. It's like it makes you dependant on the meds to get a good nights sleep, and that's not good. If you follow these tips, your chances of sleeplessness should decrease rapidly. I hope this helps!
