...it when a teacher makes you be in a group with a bunch of stupid people that don't know what they're talking about...
bleh, story of my life. I'm always the kid that has to join some group because all of their friends have strategically been placed in other classes. :c
Well we didn't get to pick our lab partners. The professor went by our last name. But there's a guy in my group, who is a science major, and he gets mad at me because I'm trying to explain to him he's wrong. He told me that the sun is bigger in the winter time because we are further away from it. I showed him 2 different pictures, saying that the sun is closer to Earth in the summer, therefore it looks bigger. He looked at me and said, "No...you're wrong."
Farther* Anyways, yeah, that always happens to m-wait. What sense does it make that the sun is bigger because we're farther away? Are you sure he's a science major? Is this like a college for those with an I.Q. below their age number?
Earth is farther from the Sun in the summer if I recall correctly. The distance doesn't cause the seasons. The tilt of the Earth's axis does. >> And if I'm wrong about the first sentence, it doesn't matter for anything. XD
Actually you're all wrong. It depends on where Earth is in it's orbit of the sun, and in what hemisphere you live in. Anyway that's the story of my life. I'm always better than most people so I get stuck with the stoopids almost every time we're in groups and don't get to pick. Even if we do then i'll usually end up being the one who's almost beat up because everyone wants my answers all for themselves...
That's what my friend asked. But yes, he's a physics major. I guess they lowered the standards for science majors now... But I'm trying to explain it to him and he turns my answer down all the time. Thank you for the spelling correction. And I'm in the Northern Hemisphere. It was asking from our location. (United States)
My Astronomy teacher lied to me. Dx Then again, I did take that class three years ago. And it was rather dull because I could care less about the Solar System. It's uninteresting compared to the rest of the multiverse. 8D I refuse to go onto this topic of "groups". B|
I didn't mean it was winter because the Earth is farther. You know how something seems bigger if it's closer and smaller if it's farther away? I meant why does he think the sun being farther makes it bigger?
He said something about we have longer winters and shorter summers but that's impossible because the longest day of the entire year is June 21st in the summer.
