I would take my jacket off, not my shoes though. I don't really see people's homes as a restaurant though, they constantly have people coming inside, paying to be there. If I wanted to I would take off my shoes if I wanted to though, I mean, I'm paying afterall.

Who says Americans wear their shoes inside? I mean unless if you're in someone's house who has a really ****** carpet and doesn't give a crap, it's common sense to take them off.

Some of the people who have posted here have stated they wear shoes inside. It's also really, really, really common to see Americans wear shoes indoors in your media.

Well, part of the deal with a restaurant is, you are paying to be comfy and have a nice meal. So, I mean, I'd take my jacket off in that situation. Not my shoes though, that's silly. Who knows what might be on the floor in some places :L

EDIT: Chris, that's media. That's a minute detail in media. Does your media represent you 100%?

It depends on whose house I'm in, and whether or not other people take their shoes off or not.

At home, I rarely keep my shoes on (although cause there's no floor heating, I have to keep socks on), but if I go to my neighbor or grandparent's house I generally keep them on.

Some of us are not Americans.

    Works for me.

I do not wear my shoes inside of houses unless the people who live there are. I dislike wearing shoes and take them off with every chance I get.

Reality shows, etc. I know that they aren't exactly like real life, obviously, but they are usually a mirror of the culture at some degree. Which is obviously the case, considering how people in here have stated that it's normal for them to wear shoes inside.

    We don't really care.

If we want to walk around with shoes on, it's fine. As long as they're not muddy.

The only ones I've actually watched are Hell's Kitchen and a Norwegian one about Americans being stupid in Norway. It's called commercials, brah.

Not in my eyes. You are not American unless you wave the flag (figuratively).

Well in Hell's Kitchen....they're normally in a kitchen. It would just be idiotic not to wear shoes in kitchens.

Every single one of my friends whose house I have been to takes their shoes off and have their guests remove their shoes. Me, in my house, I'm almost always barefoot. I don't think it matters either way though. However I do feel as if one is in a hurry or only there for a moment, leaving your shoes on is for the better as you leave rather quickly.

And on TV shouldn't count either way. People are being filmed and naturally would want to look their best. This normally means all dressed up, depending on the show.

Well yeah... that's why I wasn't using Hell's Kitchen as an example of a reality show where they use shoes inside... I was saying it was one I enjoy ._.

If you do not self-define as or pledge allegiance to your neighborhood, then you are not a representative of it as a group; each person represents themselves only, and the group exists only if the people band together. Not a fan of collectivism, am I. Agorism requires neither the consent nor the participation of the unwashed masses. Et cetera...

I am on the plot of land, but I am not of one spirit. Capiche?

    Hahaha, good one.

Anyhow; it depends on what family you go to. If it's common for a family to keep their shoes on, they do. Me, however, would probably take them off anyway.
The only country I can recall, that usually keep their shoes on, is Spain. We had some Spanish over to our house and they walked in, still wearing their shoes because that's common (at least in the area they are from)

When I go to someone else's house I'll usually take my shoes off. If it is a house where most people leave shoes on and I take mine off people give me weird looks for a second and then move on. If it is a house where they take their shoes off and I leave mine on you would think I just killed the family's cat.

For some reason though I'm more likely to leave them on if I'm there for "business" like fixing a computer or babysitting. Shoes = Authority?
