I have a question for the Americans in here

I'd rather say taking off your shoes is more like you're showing that you're making yourself feel at home.
Also, I'd say it's more common to leave the shoes on if you're in an apartment.

 

Just a tip, never use reality shows as a reason to assume something. Even most of us hate what MTV etc has become.

But everyone pretty much already answered this, it really depends on the house owner.

 

I find it funny how people use the term "we". Just because some of us live in the same country doesn't mean "we" do the same things. So by saying we do this or we do that it is completely false.

 

Oh, I haven't ever watched any of the MTV reality shows, I'm not sure who does. It's just that, basically, the only time I've seen American media where they don't wear shoes inside it's been for joking purposes, where the people are mad because of having to take off their shoes. Media wasn't the only reason I asked though, just one reason amongst others.

See? It was definitely a legit question yo.

 

Hence me saying that its probably more common in apartments not to take off your shoes

 

There is also the point that they do not want to waste precious screen time taking shoes off. Semi-important point.

 

Arrive in door.
Cut to after they've take their shoes off.
Problem solved?

 

They would probably rather just film a whole scene in one go.

I hate wearing shoes inside...

 

My house had been unfinished for eons and never had insulation so my family mainly wore shoes just so we could stay warm. Now it is finished and it is odd to wear no shoes in our own house.

 

The only reality shows that actually put people in their homes are shows like, Extreme Makover: Home Edition, Dog Whisperer, shows like that. Shows like those are basically all my mum ever watch.

 

I hate shoes. But I live in a region where it gets cold in winter. So shoes[or slipper socks] are used more for warmth than anything else. I also have to wear them for work. But rarely do I wear shoes inside my own home. Other people's houses, I don't know, some people insist you wear them others insist you take them off. Presumably depending on the state of their carpet.

 

I'm Canadian, but Ima answer anyways.

It's normally 'shoes off' in our house, but since we've been renovating, that rule hasn't been as strict. Dad always breaks it anyways.

 

Shoes off in house, definitely. Who the hell knows what the person stepped in before coming into the house? I don't wanna find out. End of story. XD

 

Who knows what could be on the floor in that house?

 

Not as dangerous as outside in all cases.

Shoes are a serious business. Saving myself from all future conflict and chopping the feet off of any and all guests of my house.​
