You are trying to defend yourself from any retorts before they happen. You basically said, "I'm awesome, and no one else gets to say otherwise because I said so." You are defending yourself from reproach.

See, that is an insult. That is what I'm trying to avoid. I haven't spoken a word of insult in this thread. My previous comments, while blunt, are not attacks on any person or their character. At the worst, they are assessments in the negative. I consider it quite nice to treat someone with such objectivity who repeatedly and unashamedly displays grievous social obliviousness and also takes part in insulting those who disagree with him.

tl;dr I understand the phrase well, but I would mirror your statement.

Sorry If I came across as a jerk there, but in all honesty I think we both know that my opinion of you isn't the highest. I'm sure you probably feel the same about me, I mean you certainly showed it a lot on a certain video sharing website.
