We comfort sad people because they're cramping our styles and bringing the mood down, not because we actually give a damn about their happiness.
We keep old people alive because we don't want our conscience -a funny thing by the way- chewing on us, and only because of that.
Behind every selfless act lies a selfish intention on some level. Altruism doesn't exist. This you cannot change. You can only accept it.

We're always manipulating. We cheat on our spouses because we're trying to fill in a blank in our lives that one person apparently can't fill. Apparently conscience has not been an issue here. It happens and it's different for anybody. Who are we to decide what form of conscience is best?
