We were all asking the very same question.

Guys, I tried writing VOID with my scientific calculator. It was hard, but I could. Now, the thing is, I accidentally pressed the = button. No, I didn't get an error. The result was... MOTHAFOOKIN ZERO. YES, I'M DEAD SERIOUS. THE VOID BEING NOTHING IS PROVEN ONCE AGAIN.

Scientific calculator Chrome app sucks. I can input letters A-F in mine, so (square root symbol) zero (exclamation mark thingy) + D = zero

I realised that I don't fundamentally consider anyone outside my field of vision/senses to truly exist.

That is where it starts. Does a chair still exist while you are not looking at it?

    I divided 1 by 0.

    The result:

    0.000000000000000000000000000000000000

    No joke.

Oh wow, this brings back memories of philosophy. I always liked the idea that we were just brains in a jar being poked by a stick.

But no, the key question to consider here is: does it really matter? I'm not going to suddenly stop doing my physics work on the grounds that my work and my physics lecturer and even physics may not truely exist....actually....

It is worth understanding a concept even if you do not believe in it. It is useful to know how to use this computer even if it does not exist, because it entertains regardless of its 'existence'. The same is true of physics. What model you use to define existence is important because it shapes the way that you view any number of things and can change your value system dramatically.

Inanimate objects are slightly harder, especially those I've grown used to. The difficulty in thinking of them as real gets further and further away depending on my direct experience with them, and their proximity to me. Under the same theory though, no, it doesn't.

It matters in the sense of how we interact with other people and the world. Solipsism instils a lack of empathy and self-centredness. I am far less likely to donate to starving children in Africa if I don't even acknowledge Africa's existence.

Pretty sure you mixed up physics and philosophy somewhere in there but I understand your point. I was joking around, it's too late to seriously look at any major points about existance. I need sleep.

It sounds like pragmatism is the thing for you. You trust your knowledge based on its level of efficiency and potential use, while everything else is a concept that can shift at any time to match your current set of experiences. A thing may or may not exist, and this does not matter unless you can make use of it. You trust your knowledge of a subject only as far as it is of use to you. Physics apply because they consistently allow you to predict future events based on physical interactions. Pragmatism demands that you acknowledge them if you wish to complete a goal. It is the same with anything that exists; it is best to make use of it if you can and ignore whether the whole scenario exists or not.

This is true. It also serves as a sort of escapism. I can deny anything around me because it only happened in my mind; like a bad dream. No one exists to get hurt but me. The lack of empathy spreads far beyond people in Africa. If you see videos of people in Africa, and you see videos of people nearby, what makes that less real than actually seeing them, or vice versa? If you have the concept in your mind, then it exists in some form, tangible or not.

I did not. Whether or not the laws of physics apply to a 'physical' reality is irrelevant if your concern is to work efficiently. Imagine that you are dreaming, and a new set of laws controls the world of the dream. A new configuration of physics. Even though it is not real, it is best for you to learn about the physics in the dream in order to navigate it properly. The same applies to any environment, be it a reality or a dream.
