Why do you guys think that young adults and even children follow the ways of celebrities in everything they do? girls become skinnier, wear expensive clothing and accessories, and act a certain way for what? they waste their young lives trying to be a "perfect" person. living in orange county, i see it everywhere... in girls and guys. what makes a trend well.. trendy? How come girls idolize people who don't have any skills or help the world or what-not? Why don't we notice the people who do the good people in this world, the one's who teach us, cure us, and know us?

Hahannuh, this is something I've struggled with for a long time. There are so many things wrong with how people, especially young people, view the media today...it's hard to list them all. But why?

Well, first of all, I think there are a lot of parents who just haven't done a good enough job instilling the idea of "appropreate behavior" in the correct way. A lot of parents are either too lenient or too strict, and either can be a catalyst to the adolescent pulling away for the sake of pulling away.

Another problem are the moneymakers. The modern music scene is a good example. Now, I don't want to offend anyone who likes newer styles of music, but the industry has gone way downhill. It's because when something, and not necessarily a good something, becomes popular, these businesspeople think that's all "the kids" will ever know or want, so they look to sign as many copycats as humanly possible. Now, I'm 20, and I know tons of people within a five year age radius who love classic stuff like The Beatles or Queen or bands of that ilk. However, unless the group in question is pre-established by several dacades, no record company will sign 60's/70's-style rock & roll bands anymore because it's "not what the kids are into."

This very same theory can be applied to the emergence of these party girl types. The moneymakers think something is popular, so they market the hell out of it. Granted, it's their jobs, and they have every right to make money, but they could be a little smarter about it.

A good commentary on this is South Park episode 812: "Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset."

This is one of those issues that seems international. Images of celebrities and 'It Girls' are bombarded at people all the time. It seems that to be socially acceptable you have to look and behave like these 'role models' even though they usually have done and achieved nothing.

I feel that these images are especially aimed at people who are establishing their own identity, feeding off any insecurities and making them fit into the labels that society likes to use. Surely the healthiest way for someone to establish their identity is in a stable environment where they can gain confidence in their own self? The media is an open forum which has a great deal of power. If images are blasted at someone 24/7 then they will accept that this is normal, and try to fit this. It's human nature.

Unfortunately the truth is that these media driven images only seem to cause low self esteem, health problems and bullying. Personally I feel that the media and the cult of 'celebrity' have a lot to answer for.

Another one of those problems that can look so simple to solve but dint get solved because of moneymaking. Its like global heating, pollution...

Media now days keep showing too many people thay if you don't like like super moald, sing or act people won't like them and to that i say
"What the hell" I'm fat can't sing nor act but I'm happy being me. The way i see it some youge people think they have to look and act sexy to get anywhere in life but what about or the really un-sexy people who've gotten somewhere, media has to chage and start telling people that it's not what you look like it's what you can do, so all you youger people out there don't give a damn about what media tells you, you do what you wanna do...

People follow the media because they look up to Super Models and what not. So when they(the super model) do something, they (the consumer) will copy it.

It's mostly because people don't have the feeling of individuality and uniqueness.

I think it is because people want to be loved. They think that money and fame is what attracts lots and lots of people who care about you. That's really the bottom line, it may sound Corny but everyone just wants to be cared about by other people.
