    *hops onto clichéd meme bandwagon*

Cliché as it may be, however, music really does give me hope. Except for those Arceusforsaken songs like California Gurlz that make me fear for humanity.

I was having some self-esteem issues a while back from past actions I've done, and it was making me feel like crap. So, I turned on my MP3 player (on shuffle) to blow off steam and relax. A few songs in, what came on?

"It's all right, just wait and see
Your string of lights is still bright to me
Oh, who you are is not where you've been
    You're still an innocent"

I suppose that the Lord really does work in mysterious ways. I very much doubt that Taylor Swift was thinking of some idiotic, slightly angsty teenager when she wrote this song. It was just what I needed to hear.

    Thanks, T-Swift and God. c:

Music does have a way of helping me stay away from suicidal and murderous thoughts. I love it for that.

Is music itself a religion? If it was I'd join it.

Pretty much that. I know this is going to sound silly or sad or whatever you label it but music does help me a heck of alot. In a way, it's always been there for me even when nobody else was; so yeah I'm thankful for it. *shotforsappy'ness*

Music helps me vent. I'm an angry person, I'll admit that, and music helps me deal with that, and I'm eternally thankful for it.

Actually, I find that emotive music, and not lyrics, is what is helpful for my mood. Too many artists focus only on the lyrics and not the mood of the accompanying music. As someone who is affected greatly by sound waves, lyrics themselves do not do much for me on an emotional level. It gets annoying at times. If you have read Radio Freefall, you might know what I am talking about.

    Yes. Please.

I have to agree. Music inspires my writing; that's when I appreciate the lyrics. But for my own emotions, it's the music itself that helps me regardless of the lyrics.

I don't think it would be very good if music became a religion. It may become corrupted. Or maybe that's just me.

Music does release a lot of tension for me, keeps away all my problems until it stops. Then they come back. But it's a good way to block out the world and silence people who talk to me.

Yeah, I feel the same way when I listen to music. I listen to the same song whenever, and don't mean the same thing throughout the day. I could be listening to a song in the morning because the beat wakes me up, listen to it a few hours later and actually listen to the lyrics and feel warm. It's really good when the music and lyrics are in perfect unison.

    There's Christian rock. *brick'd*

Only if it had rules. The religion of music doesn't have to have rules.

Music is a marvel beyond compare. If anything is god-given, I'd bet music is. Because it creates something from nothing. It makes an outlet where otherwise there's none. Whether you need something to connect to or something to take your mind off of things, or just some low-key background music to study to, there's something for everyone. It taps into that universal pattern; we might not be able to see through other people's eyes, but we do all feel pretty much the same things.

Music digs into that. It digs into our psyche. On the most fundamental level, it lets us know we're not alone. And I think it's the most positive iteration of that feeling. There are times when I get the feeling I'm not alone and I hate it; because I get it in a way that makes me feel like I can't really contribute anything to the world. It makes me feel insignificant. Sometimes I'm trying to think of a story idea, and I wonder, is there something just like this, but better, somewhere out there? It's depressing.

But when I listen to a really good tune, it flips completely different switches. It's like climbing to the top of a snowy mountain and seeing someone else's footprints in the snow, and just knowing, "Those footprints belong to someone just like me. Now, mine will be up here, too." When you really connect to music on that level, it's so empowering. Like being plugged in to some gigantic, never-ending project that will change the world.

I dunno, maybe that's just me. I feel some powerful stuff from music though. It gives me hope, but more importantly, it gives me drive. Makes me want to burst into a blaze that will never go out. It just saddens me that next-to-all of the music that has that power does not see the light of popularity, that people would really rather gloss over all of that and whip their hair back and forth or something.

Well, we know where you have me now. Expression of emotion. Lucky you... And I still cannot rep you, dammit.

I would add to that the comment that music gives rhythm to an otherwise orderless task, and that this is beneficial to varying degrees. Also, this.

Music doesn't really give me hope, I just enjoy listening to it. Stuff like Justin Beiber and Lady Herp Derp make me LOSE hope in humanity, honestly

Music has alwaysed helped me through my life. When I would be sad I would listen to somekind of song that would cheer me up. I litteraly cannot live with out music. Without music I would probrably go crazy.

I personally thank Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights for clearing up an interpretation of the Books ending as it confused me a bit.
It just means Kathy is such a determined cow she'll haunt her love from the dead :P

Music is amazing. It's changed me a bit and some lyrics are great, an uplifting ballad has not dragged me out of suicidal thoughts (but it has for some). Uptempo songs makes me feel mor optimistic sometimes though, but sometimes I love the misery song when I'm down. This is because singing along helps me vent the misery. Some artists have led me to political feminist cultures by their own work and influences, thats the best thing music did for me.

Riot Grrrl's live on and hard.

Although people have to smack down gaga...haters gotta be ignorant to hate. I don't glare eyes at heavy instrumental rock. Infact Gaga loves rock too.
She often does writes pop songs, they're not all about sex. Sometimes people wanna "Just Dance" and forget about the sh*t going on thats horrid. She's had fans who stopped committing suicide because her carefree fun pop made them forget about horrible things and dance and be happy. That's just as wonderful as a swift ballad in terms of help. She does write sex based songs sometimes but they're on a satiracal level. A disco stick is clearly a funny joke she said while drunk and made a song on it for fun.
As for born this way, she put her heart into reaching out to insecure kids to feel good about themselves with a kick-ass dance beat (as that is a rarity over the uplifting ballad). I'm a fan, but to say she's damaging music is a serious misjudgement, she's not being pretty when she walks about in her underwear, she wears it for empowerment. Most men cringe at her exposure than masturbate over it (in comparison to say, a skimpy Rihanna/Beyoncé/Katy Perry). Her catalogue has piano rock songs about personal emotional matters (love and family). Of course there is pop songs on a plastic level but lots of fans buy the album and love the fun dance nature of the pop songs and then the melodic emotion of her lyrics in the ballads.

Most people prefer her piano sections live. Nobody crucified Michael Jackson for mixing both sides of music into albums, why can't she.

    Stan rant over. :)
