    SPOILERS

I think that her role was sort of going from 'damsel-in-distress' to somebody who can help her friends. If you talk to her a few times near the end of KH II, she talks about how she doesn't want to be left behind.

If Kairi was useless, then she would have spent the entire time of KH II waiting on the island and getting on with her life. However, she gave Sora the Oathkeeper chain - a weapon in battle. She also wrote the message in a bottle which eventually got Sora and Riku out of the world of darkness. Furthermore, she reunited Sora and Riku. And because she is Namine's other, Namine was not able to completely fade into nothing. Furthermore, she turned Heartless Sora back into a human.

And she has some personality. Not a huge amount, but it's there. She seems cheerful. She is also incredibly brave in rather dangerous situations. I think that if Square gave her some noticeable flaws, she'd be a great character. So, she's pretty Sueish, but we don't know exactly what Square plans for her. KH II was mostly about Sora and Riku's reunion but I think that Square cared enough about Kairi not to want to leave her out.

And when people say that Kairi's Keyblade is girly - yep, Sora wielded much more masculine Keyblades than that. :sarcasm: I mean, look at the Rumbling Rose Keyblade which was not only purple, but also had a rose on the handle and a rose on the Keychain. Or the Divine Rose, which has a rose on the blade and (I think) creates pretty petals every time you hit somebody. Or the Star Seeker (I think that's it's name), which is purple and has pretty stars. Or what about Riku's Keyblade with the pretty wing on the end?

And Sora? He has some of a mix in his personality. He's a bit goofy and naive, but he has great emotional strength - he is very charismatic, optimistic and good at cheering others up.

  2. I figured what they changed about Axel and Xigbar (which were both useless to tweak anyway), but I never knew that they changed Sora's line. The "I'll kill you!" line is way better and makes more sense.

Geez, America is too damn protective, and over the dumbest things. Little kids aren't stupid. And in the end, they're already corrupted anyway once they hit grammar school, if not already.

Naminé didn't make him forget about Kairi. What she did is replace herself with her, scrambled his memories and tricked him to make it look like she was Kairi, the important one, while the real one was only a friend. Why do you think she went on about her only being Kairi's shadow? Why do you think there were scenes where Kairi and her kept switching, especially in the end?

Anyway, all those you listed are positive aspects of a personality, none of it are negative. Strong-willed, brave, etc.? Those are positive. Except for she being impulsive for once. I don't agree that Kairi is a complete Mary-Sue, but she's on the borderline, and now more that she's got a Keyblade just because. She was a damsel-in-distress in KH1, and even though it wasn't her fault, she still was, and in KH2 she tried to shake it off, only to get caught again, and saved by Naminé this time.

Naminé isn't that much of a Mary-Sue either. Yeah, she's good, quiet, shy, very pretty, Roxas' semi-love interest, and wants to help, but she has also made her mistakes. She was lonely (and selfish, possibly even jealous, wanting someone to be there for her just like Sora is to Kairi), played with Sora's memories, a loss on what to do with Roxas even though she tried, questioning her existence (at least in the novel), and feels guilt. This is the EXACT reason why I somehow like Naminé better, and definitely Larxene and all her non-Mary-Sueness and awesomeness (I wanted to bash Nomura's head in for killing her in CoM, as she deserved to be in KH2, or at least deserved better. And is stupid for Axel to be the only survivor in Castle Oblivion anyway, is suspicious to the bone, and makes Xemnas look stupid).

Is amazing how Kairi's Nobody has more depth than the real one with a heart.

Nomura shouldn't have really made Kairi a Princess Of Heart, no darkness at all, because perhaps it might have been different.

I only hope that Aqua is different, since is her we'll be dealing with next.

Aqua is guaranteed diferent. She's awesome in the secret ending. The girl knows her spells and she shows compassion without being damsel-in-distress

I'm not blaming America or Mr. Thompson for any of this. However, I do blame Disney. There have been plenty of games like KH with cussing and mature themes, but do you realize that Disney is widely recognized as for children. Do you recognize the outcry parents would have if Sora cussed in a (Yes, I said it)Kid's game. But that is no excuse for how Sora and kairi's character were handled. Star Wars was PG, and Princess Leia was a no nonsense badass. She did kill Jabba after all. Noruma was very shallow in Designing the main characters for KH. Thinking that a Overly Optimistic and Overly Sensitive character would be more than enough. But what about Goku? He's really optimistic. Why is he different from Sora?

I agree. I love Disney to death, but I wish they'd let Nomura design his characters like he does in Final Fantasy. Disney can do something different for once. It would make the story a lot more interesting if Sora could say the things he says in the Japanese version. And if it's too much for little kids, then they shouldn't play it. That's that.

Sora is a great character, all I'm saying is that he should act his age a little more.

I don't really feel like going into Kairi.

True. He should start acting like a man. Hell, he should have been like that at 14. I believe that boys become men at age thirteen. Around that age, you become physically and biologicly able to impregnate a woman. But thats for another topic. Sorry for getting off topic.

    But, yeah. I feel ya.

I completely agree! Sora is so annoying! He doesn't seem to know anything, and acts way too immature! *cough*whatwaswiththeidiotsoraobsessedwithsantainhalloweentown?*cough*

I know! I'm younger than him and I'm done with the Santa thing. I still enjoy how festive he is, but I don't get all excited about it like he does...

I'm all for Santa! But come on! Heartless all around you...HALLOWEEN all around you... and all you can think of is seeing Santa? And doesn't Sora not believe in Santa (as said in the game several times)?

Yes, from the beginning Sora acted WAY too young. He looked and acted about 10 in the first one. Being 14 is absolutely preposterous. I am 14, and not only is my voice deeper (though Osment was 14 at the time...), but also I have a much larger vocabulary and, unfortunately, I tend to cuss a lot more. I am not a particularly mature or intelligent person, but Sora is just ridiculous. Riku looks about 16, but acts about 11 or 12, and Kairi is the same as Sora. I know, I know... he needed to blend in with the Disney characters, so what. In the second one, it's clear that Osment has gone through puberty, but Sora acts little to no different.

You could tell Sora was too optimistic for Final Fantasy, I wish that in later games he would be a lot more mature. The Santa thing was hilarious, I won't deny that. I just wish sora would act like the characters he appears to be molded after. You put Cloud, Squall and Tidus in a blender and you got Sora. Then you filled his head with the minds of Rikku, Selphie and Yuffie. i know God managed to have Disney and Final Fantasy come together to be something awesome, but he showed no mercy on character splicing.

That description of Sora is like the best thing I've heard here yet!

Yeah. I think I've figured it out.

You know Denzel from Advent Children? He got abducted by Mickey and taken to Destiny Islands and was raised by Disney-loving freaks under the false name Sora! Haha...

I do actually have a full speculation theory on that that I should really post sometime in a thread. It actually works!

It's possible. But where did Kairi come from. Her origins are never specified

Yeah they were! It says in the Secret(?) Ansem Reports that Kairi was from Radiant Garden, and the cutscene in Traverse Town before they go to Hollow Bastion shows Kairi and her grandmother in the Radiant Garden Library.

Ok. But I DON'T HATE KAIRI! And I hate yaoi fans who hate her because "She's in the way of Sora and Riku's nonexistant love.

    I'm a Sora/Riku fan and I don't hate kairi, please don't make generalizations.
There are just as many het fanbrats who bash Kairi because they want Sora, or Riku to be with their Mary-Sue.

As for how I feel about the characters, I really Like them both.
Kairi didn't get nearly enough screen time. (Well neither did DiZ, Namine, Riku, Roxas, and well..anyone who isn't Sora.)

Sora is a breath of fresh air from those Emo macho men like Cloud and Squall.
I love Sora's silly optimism, and I hope he doesn't change.

Sorry. But the vast majority of yaoi fans I've encountered are like that. So, I had no choice but to make a generalization. Not all Yaoi fans are like that, I know.

But we are off topic here.

    BACK ON TOPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad I found this topic

I agree with you almost whole-heartedly! Sora is very dim and optimistic--that's his nature, and that's okay. But dammit, every time I go to fight Xigbar and Saix is telling Sora Kairi doesn't need him, and he says, "Am I supposed to believe that?" I think, "what a useless line..." Even Saix seems to think so. As for Kairi, what happened!? Don't get me wrong, I love Kairi too, but...her personality was mutilated for KH2. Sora and Kairi were both much more interesting in KH1. Kairi with her sunny disposition, Sora actually getting pissed off and calling Riku stupid (hey, it's a Disney game).

Yes, everyone loves Axel, Riku, Roxas, and Namine for the same reasons--they were the characters that Disney overlooked. They were the characters that Squeenix had their way with. They show all the depth of a Final Fantasy character. "%$#& Sora! I want to play as Roxas!" But all in all, poor Sora and Kairi...they got the short end of the stick for being the main characters.
