You dug up an old thread and posted in it, bringing it to "New Posts".

It's to post in a thread that's long dead, and that should remain dead. There's a reason why there's a rule against it.
For example bumping an old thread brings it back to the forum list and confuses members with a discussion that's long dead.

Basically, read the rules in a section, if you want to discuss a thread that is well over a month since the last post, check and see if you are aloud to "necrobump."

For example, a section's rules may say that necrobumping is allowed to an extent. that extent is, if you have a valid thing to add to the conversation.

However, the Spamzone does not permit necrobumping at all. Meaning, if the last post in the thread is 1 month old or older, do not touch it and let 'er die.

Just to clarify. For whatever reason people seem a little unclear on this sometimes. =]

Necro-bumping implies the thread is dead.
Bumping implies the thread hasn't been replied to in a while and is replied to increase more recent activity

There is essentially a difference, time. Necro-bumping is applied to threads that are several months to years old and to put it simply has a discussion that is dead with members who don't even come on anymore, while simply bumping a thread is applied to those that are only weeks old for example.
