Ryku smiled and stepped away from them, "But he did do something wrong. He forgot about her. See you don't know all the story of his little life before he started training as an assassin. I do."

Zane lifted his head, his eyes were red, "Shut up. Mya doesn't need to hear everything about my past."

Ryku shook his head, "Sorry, but she does in order to understand. You see, Mya, when he was a boy, his oldest sister met me. She loved me and I her, even when she fell deathly ill and no one thought she would make it. Zane, here, started training under his father to kill me. That old fool blamed me for his daughter's illness. I moved Annabelle out to my country house to make her better. Then I recieved word that Garth McHugh had slaughtered her family, leaving no survivors. You can see where I thought he was dead too."
Zane tried to get a word in edgewise but Ryku continued, "She was getting better, until she found out all of her family was dead. Then she had a relapse and died. It's his fault because he failed to find her and tell her some of her family was still alive. She refused to live for me so she died for a family that killed people for a living." Ryku savagely kicked Zane, "Fight back you worthless piece of crap!"

 

Mya pushed him back. Stop hitting him! He cared about her! You wouldn't know what he went through to kill the man that caused pain for him!

 

Ryku stumbled, "Right and getting you into his bed was his reward for a day of misery and pain. Try living the rest of your life in that misery and pain!"

Zane stood, his gray eyes fixed on Ryku, "I won't fight back because you're family no matter how much you hate me. I have lived my life in pain and misery. You know nothing of what our father was like! I didn't willingly train under him, he forced me to. He was the one who wanted you dead, not me!" He took a step toward him, "I didn't want to hurt Annabelle by saying I didn't like her fiance. She loved me too much to listen to me so I gave you by best shot and you saw I still didn't trust you."

Ryku shook his head, lifting his fist to hit him again, "I can't believe you're still lying to yourself!"
Zane took his punch and still bore into him, "You didn't know our father because Annabelle refused to talk about him. He was a killer, I may be one too but Annabelle always looked to the bright side of things. She wouldn't give up just because we were dead. You can hate me and blame me for something I didn't do, but don't you ever imply that my sister gave up her life because she was too sad." Ryku hit him again.

 

Mya balled her hands into fists. She wanted to hit him so bad, but it was better if she stayed out of it. This wasn't her fight. It was Zane's fight and he needed to settle it.

 

Zane spit the blood from his mouth carefully onto the grass, "I won't fight you. You're still my brother-in-law and that means the promise I made Annabelle is still in effect." Ryku moved to hit him again and Zane caught his fist before it connected, "But that doesn't mean I won't stop you from hitting me."

Ryku gritted his teeth, "I should've known poisoning you wouldn't be enough to kill you! I should've just ended it when I had the chance!"

Zane frowned, "You would kill your family? Annabelle's family? Ryku, you can't hate me forever for something that happened a long time ago. Tell me, when did she die?"

Ryku pulled away from him, "Four years ago! Four short years ago my beloved Annabelle died!"
Zane's frown deepened, "I was 18? I'd spent eight years in under the Creed's protection before my sister died?"

Ryku trembled and looked like he was about to explode when Zane hit him, "Damn you, I was an adult! You could've found me then! It wasn't that hard! Just ask around for a boy who killed Templars for a living!" Zane tackled him and slammed him into the dirt, "You should've told me earlier. Why wait four more years to find me?!"

Ryku coughed underneath his wieght, "Because i didn't have the right tools to kill you yet." he gasped, "I wanted you dead!"
Zane snorted, "Well it looks like you blew that chance." He hit him but no matter how good it felt to hit him for a change, he stood and looked down on Ryku, "I hope you learn to control yourself. I killed Garth to avenge my family. With that done, don't you think I won't spend the rest of my life wondering what would've happened if I'd looked harder for Annabelle."

Ryku sat up and wiped the blood from his lip, "Don't think just because you beat me up, that I won't report your every move to the Templars! Everything you do, or everyone you do will be reported to the Templars. All that you eat, drink or consume in some way will be documented and I will find a way to kill you. Annabelle won't rest in peace until you are dead!"
Zane rubbed his eyes, "You can keep holding that over me, or you can pick yourself up and walk away like a man. Your choice."

Ryku stood but still glared at him, "You'll die someday, by my hand. The Templars, no matter how useless they are, will know your every move! That includes your girlfriend!"

 

Mya glared at him. Some man you are. If she was alive now, she would've broken up with you. You're worse than him. If you're going to stay on vengance, you'll never know your true potential.

 

Ryku backhanded Mya, "Quiet!"

Zane gripped the front of his shirt as Ryku began to laugh hysterically. Putting him down, Zane examined Ryku. The wild gleem in his eyes, the sadistic curve of his mouth, and the painfully pale color of his skin showed Zane more than necessary, "Leave it be Mya, he's clearly gone insane."

Ryku clutched at his sides, "You...have no idea....what...wh-what I have in s-store for you!"

Ryku backhanded her, "Quiet!"

Zane held him up by the front of his shirt and Ryku began to laugh hysterically. Frowning, he put him back down, "Leave it be Mya. Clearly he's gone insane." He noted the wild gleem in his eyes, the sadistic curve of his mouth, and the painfully pale colour of his skin.

Ryku clutched his sides, "You...have no idea...what...wh-what I have in store for you!"

 

Mya stepped back and shook her head. What's wrong with him? Wasn't he all angry? What made him snap?

 

Zane studied him as he laughed, "Realization that he can't kill me. Not by himself and he has no friends in Florence. Unless you plan on making friends with the Templars?" Zane touched her red cheek, "Honestly, what makes most people snap like this is simply grief."

Ryku slowed his laughter and calmed himself, "You think you're so smart!" He fled from the cemetary. Leaving Zane to frown in his wake and kneel in front of his sister's grave, "Forgive me Annabelle..."

 

Mya knelt next to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. Stop saying that. It's not your fault. You can't blame yourself for trying to protect your sister. You tried everything you could. I'm sorry though. She stood up. Cmon. We have work to do.

 

He gave up the argument since he agreed with her and followed her up, "Work? What work?"

 

Mya looked around. An undercover heard that all f the conspirators are meeting in a church. It's too heavily guarded so we're going to use te catacombs to get there.

 

Zane sighed, "More dead people. Great. Well, lead the way. I am yours to command this afternoon."

BIC: Mya nodded and led him to a wall. It wasn't very spectacular except it had a stone skull on it. When Jo one was looking, Mya twisted the skull and the wall opened up to a corridor. Mya walked inside of the corridor.

 

Zane groaned, "Yeah great, dark spaces." He followed her inside, glancing at the cobwebed walls with distaste. His mood was ruined from the morning and he followed her down the corridor in silence.

 

Mya continued down the corridor until they reached a long deep pit with pipes leading to the other side.

 

Zane shrugged, "You wait here. I'll go first." Zane put one foot on the pipe, testing it's stability. It seemed like it would hold. Cautiously, Zane crossed the pipe, one step at a time. One foot in front of the other.

 

Mya carefully followed Zane, trying not to add too much weight on the pipes that looked very old

 

Zane made it across without a creak from the pipes and he held his hand out for Mya behind him.

 

Mya reached the last pipe and prepared to jump until it broke under her feet. She yelped and grabbed the attached part, breathing heavily and dangling above the pit. She struggled to climb up and grabbed Zane's hand.
