Persona - Mask of Origins

Zain stood slowly, blood on his lips. Licking that up, he laughed as Yuki helped Cara.

She shivered and hugged herself, keeping a hand over the bite wound, "He....he...bit me?! I don't understand. Zain?" She tried to walk towards him as his laughter stopped and he snarled.

 

Yuki held her back.

"Don't go near him. He'll only try to kill you in the state he's in. I'll have to subdue him." She said as she drew her scythe, not noticing her illusion fell off when she dove in the water. Her wings were demonic and a bright red glow was in her eyes.

 

Cara shuddered and fell backwards, "What...are you people?"

Zain growled low in his throat and shadows lept from the trees down to his sides. "Yuki, Yuki, Yuki, you just had to interfere. Well, I'm truely sorry, but you are going to have to die."

 

"As if you could take me in a fight, Zain." Yuki said as Lucifer put a protective shield over Cara.

 

Zain made an odd noise and lifted his hand to his side, "Maybe without a weapon but...Orphan!" Orphan sadly moved down his arm and formed his spear with his body. It was purple with crystals for blades. "I think you should give back my snack before I end up killing you and her. See I was going to let her live and you had to ruin things."

 

"You're lying through your teeth, Zain."

 

Zain laughed hysterically, "You always could see right through me, Yuki. Unfortunately, I don't have time to stay and chit chat. I've got things to do, people to kill, places to go." He jumped back into the water and swam off. Since it was dark, his clothes and purple hair blended in and he was lost to the dark lake.

Cara shivered violently, "WH-what's wrong with him?"

 

"He's turning into a shadow, a demon that kills indiscriminately. I've been trying to find some way to reverse the process."

 

She wouldn't let her tears fill her eyes, a boy she actually liked was a monster. "I suppose then I can't marry him can I?" she tried to make light jokes but she felt horrible afterwards, "Is there any chance I can stay with you for instance. If he is a demon, doesn't he have, I don't know, my scent or something?"

 

"He might have your scent, but you'll be safe with me."

 

Cara nodded and clung to her. Jumping at every small sound in the dark.

Zain surfaced and climbed out of the lake on the other side. He scolded himself, the human part of him taking back control. "This can't be happening. Did I seriously just threaten my own sister? After Yuki took me in? I'm a horrible, horrible person." Orphan hissed comfortingly, "You'll get better. I promissse. We'll find a way to turn you back."

 

Yuki took Cara back home.

"Make yourself comfortable."

 

Cara wandered around and came to Zain's room. Since the last time anyone had seen it, it was empty of personal things and anything breakable was broken.

Zain fell asleep on the bank, Orphan using his weight to weigh him down to keep him from hunting.

 

Yuki sighed as she sat on the couch.

 

Cara slowly came back down the stairs and nervously held up a tattered pillow from Zain's room, "Um, Yuki...Does Zain usually tear up his things?" The rips in it were jagged from claws he'd grown in the night and holes punctured into it from his fangs.

 

"No, he normally doesn't. This is getting worse than I thought."

 

Cara dropped the pillow when she heard something crash upstairs, "D-do you think that's him?"

Zain hadn't moved an inch. Shadows, slipping into his form, raided his room, frantically looking for the vials Lady Shiv had whisperedly told him she'd hidden in his room.

 

Yuki went upstairs to check, keeping a hand on her scythe.

 

Shadows tipped over his dresser, throwing out drawers and extra clothing. Tearing at his mattress. They heard Yuki's steps and melded into one identical looking copy of Zain. Red streaked eyes, fangs, and claws.

 

"Zain? What are you doing?" She said.
