Zain took one look at the syringe and backed hastily toward the window, "Oh, no lady. My blood is my blood. I don't do needles, you keep that thing away from me!" His fangs grew and he snarled at her out of fear.

 

"You want a cure, don't you? We need a sample of blood so that we can make one."

 

He hissed but stood still and lifted his sleeve, "Fine, give me the damn thing." He held his hand out for the syringe.

 

Yuki handed him they syringe.

 

He winced as he looked at the needle and pushed it into the vein in his arm, drawing out a decent amount of blood. Oddly it was black. Handing the syringe with his black blood in it back to Yuki, he frowned, "I don't suppose that's normal."

Cara wrapped a bandage around his arm and gently hugged him.

 

Yuki took the sample to Toji for him to examine it.

 

Zain crept downstairs to watch. He glowered in the corner at him. Cara stood with him.

 

Toji took no notice as he started to make a cure.

 

Zain sulked a little closer to him, "Are you really a scientist? You don't look like one." He sniffed him curiously and growled, "I don't like your scent."

Cara patted Zain's back, "Don't worry Zain, he'll make you better."

 

"My parents made me work with chemistry all through my childhood. Trust me, I know what I'm doing." Toji said.

"Don't be rude to my boyfriend, Zain."

 

He wrinkled his nose up and glared down at him, "That doesn't make me comfortable. I believe that's what Lady Shiv said to me when I first came to her and found her making "cough syrup"." he made air quotes and tapped one of his fangs, "What a great childhood, eh?"

Cara bit her lip, Zain was being more hostile than he normally was.

 

"Just calm down, Zain." Yuki said.

Toji finished the cure and handed it to Zain.

"I'm not sure if this will be a full cure, but at least it will stop the mutation and cut your dependency on the stuff that is transforming you."

 

Zain turned his head sharply toward Yuki, "Don't tell me to be calm! You trust this guy? How long have you even known him!? I trusted Lady Shiv too! I think where that got me is obvious! Don't you think it's a little suspicous that he figured out this thing so quickly? I'm not drinking that." He glared at the cure and pulled a dark purple vial from his pocket, "You guys really thought that's the only one she put in my room?" uncorking the vial he lifted it to his lips, "This is what I think of your damn cure." Swallowing the dark contents in one swallow.

 

Yuki grew angry and grabbed Zain's neck.

"How dare you question your sister. I ought to rip your still beating heart from your chest." She said in a demonic voice.

Zain laughed, "You'd be doing me a favor. You may trust him, but I don't. I want no part of your twisted cure!" A sharp piercing sound rang in his head as the dark liquid ran through his veins. He twisted his face into a pained grimance and ceased to breathe as he felt something prick his spine but not emerge.

 

Yuki forced Zain's mouth open and poured the cure down his throat.

Zain choked on the cure and fell limp to the floor. The cure and the recent toxin in his body warred with each other, doing severe damage to his soul and Orphan.
