"I don't think so. There's got to be a way to get you back to normal." Yuki said, trying not to focus on his eyes.

 

Zain noticed her aversion and jerked his head down, pulling the sunglasses back over his eyes, "Sorry. Well until then I'm going to have to do something about this hunger issue. I can't keep eating like this."

 

"Just as long as you don't become a cannibal."

 

Zain didn't laugh, he mumbled a something about Daieko's potion and him being a firetrucker or something. "I'll keep it in check. Don't worry Yuki, I won't suddenly eat any of your friends."

 

"I wish you hadn't have said that. My dreams are bad enough as is, I don't need to dream about my friends being eaten as well."

 

Zain adjusted his sunglasses, "Ah sorry. Well I should go...uh, do something. You want anything?"

Daieko added the blood to the rest of the mixture and watched it turn colors, "Interesting...I'll need the rest of the components."

 

"Not that I can think of, unless you want to get my dry cleaning for me."

 

Zain shifted from foot to foot, his hunger forgotten, "Yeah I could do that. I'll be right back, okay?" He headed out, eager to move.

Daieko drummed his fingers against the desk, "Shemhazi, go find Zain. I need more of the other components now. This cannot wait, I'm sure he could scavenge around to find the damnable beast."

Shemhazi left, her mumbling muffled by the metal of her armor as she disguised herself as a human and knocked on Yuki's door.

 

Yuki opened the door.

"What do you want?"

 

Shemhazi gave a none to pleasant smile and spoke with an echo in her voice, "I'm here to collect the Darkhunter Zain Menlow, is he home?"

Zain listened as Yuki spoke to someone at the door, by her voice it was obviously a girl, but the echo made him shiver. He mumbled to himself, "I sure wish I wasn't."

 

"He's upstairs, but he's busy with something else right now."

 

Shemhazi stared at her, unsure how to precieve the information. She had the location of Zain but this woman still blocked her way. "Will you move, so I might collect him?"

Zain flinched at her blunt tone and edged up the stairs, hurrying to throw open the window.

 

"I most certainly will not." Yuki said.

 

Her pale gaze bore into Yuki, "Why not?"

As always, Zain's window pried open easily and he slipped out, sending a silent thanks to Yuki for stalling the strange woman who was here for him.

 

"Because Zain isn't here anymore. Now please leave."

 

Shemhazi frowned, the expression odd on her pale lovely face, "Wasn't he just upstairs, busy?" Her hand held the door open, she was surprisingly stronger than she looked.

Zain crept around the back and bumped into Daieko, "Ah, whoops." His pale blue eyes narrowed coldly on him, "You've been avoiding your job, Zain." He nervously looked around for help, "Ah, no I haven't. I just got back. I can't have a night off?" Daieko's icy glare told him no and he slumped.

 

"He was, but he just left out of the window. I had asked him to go run an errand for me."

 

Shemhazi blinked her pale, lusterless eyes, "Out the...window? For a darkhunter he sure is odd. The others were never like this." The words she spoke came out of her own forgetfullness of where she was.

Daieko dragged Zain with him to the town's cemetary and sat with him on a gravestone, "Since I'm letting you live because I need you, I'll help you with this one." Zain grunted his thanks.

 

Yuki shut the door and sighed as she flopped down on the couch.

 

Shemhazi left and returned to Daieko.

Zain watched the sun set and waited, "How long is this gonna take?" "Give it a while Zain. We don't need you rushing into anything now." he laughed and Zain stared at him confused, until a mist rose from the ground. "Here we go."
