"Hmph, so says the son of the one who made me what I am. You look like him too, y'know. I don't know what my father sees in you to trust you so much with his memories, but I don't trust you, or like you all that much." Ari tapped his shoulder, "Sensei says to leave him alone." Zero snarled at her and she scampered off.

 

"You wouldn't understand why I want to sabotage my father's work, even if I told you."

 

"Hmph, try me." Zero sat beside him as if he were tired.

 

"At birth, he injected a deadly disease in me. He planned to make me some sort of servant of his and would use the disease to kill me if I got out of line. When I found out, I worked to neutralize it, which I did. Now I want to shatter his life's work and make him a broken man."

 

Zero's luminecent gray eyes softened and he relaxed his harsh demeanor, "It's a good goal. And I do understand. I'm rooting for you. Your father recreated me and my baby brother...though father says he died. He made my mother insane and my father into the closest reality has to a vampire. I can only dream of the thing that I am." Zero still couldn't wrap his mind around that he wasn't naturally born. A test tube baby.

 

Toji nodded and continued his work.

 

Zero continued to watch him work.

Zain had returned to Daieko's and watched him change again, "Why do you keep coming back?" "To watch you suffer. Do you still think it's funny when I had to stifle that urge to kill around my sister? Do you think it's pleasant? Do you!?"

 

Toji finished one of his experiments.

"Excellent, I'll take this to his lab and sabotage more of his work."

 

"You go there alone to do this?" Zero asked curiously.

Daieko passed out and Zain shoved him to the floor, cruelly.

 

"Wouldn't be the first time." Toji said.

 

"I'll go with you. You could use a bodyguard; for such a guy with a horrible upbringing, you are still human and going into a lab filled with shadows...most pinned down, others...probably roaming around."

 

"If that's what you want to do, I won't turn down the escort."

 

Zero nodded, determined, "Alright. Let's go."

Ari frantically paced, "Sensei...have you seen Zain-Sensei? Gone..." Callen frowned, "I haven't seen him. Perhaps he went out, Ari."

 

"He went out some time ago. He'll be back soon." Toji said as he got ready to head to the lab.

 

"Father, I'm going out with Toji. We'll be back soon."

Callen frowned and waved him off. "Okay, come back soon."

 

Toji went to the lab and looked around.

 

Zero kept watch. A few things caught his eye, but faded from view before he could determine if they were hostile. "They watch you. You remind them of your father so I don't think they'll attack..."

 

Toji hacked the mainframe and uploaded a virus into it to destroy the data. He then started injecting the experiments with a debilitating disease.

 

Zero watched him inject the pathetic things, "This will end their lives peacefully?" Whispers started to reach Zero's ears. The one he actually understood was his baby brother's name...Nicholi.
