    THIS is the part you give a shit about

    It is in singular

    "Population" is not plural

    "Philosophy" is not plural

    The equivalent term for math is not "Mathematic," but "Mathematics"

    It is singular or plural, in this case singular

    Much like read is present and past and moose is not mooses or meese in the plural
