Anime Pokémon: The Origins

Just got done watching an upload of the raw Japanese footage

Spoiler: spoilers for all four episodes essentially

HOT DAMN that was excellent. The animation was really high quality, and the changes they made to resemble the gameplay more closely (HP bars, quick return animations, Pokemon cries and the moves) were all great. I'm a bit sad that there was only brief "LOL THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED IN THE REST OF THE GYMS AND E4", but it's sort of a nice callback to the black and white flashbacks of what you last did in FR/LG. I also like they made it a plot point to show Red actually attempt and succeed in catching them all. And Mew's appearance at the end was cute.

The Mega Charizard X, while completely badass, being in a special about the very first games is rather ehhh. I get that they did it tom promo for X and Y coming soon, but it still felt a bit out of place (battle was excellent though).

Also, the battles themselves were a lot more brutal than in the regular Pokemon anime. Squirtle and that Bite, then Mega Charizard's Mega (haw haw) punch to Mewtwo had its fist imprinted in its back. It was so good and I would love it if they could make more specials for the rest of the generations.

 

Now we just need them to make a full special season just to follow the manga, because that's where the epicness really was...or is, depending on if you read the raw version or not

 

this needs to be a a full-fledged series. and it needs to be done for every gen.

keep ash for the kids, but make **** like this for those who grew up with it.

 

So I've seen the first two episodes of this now and just ...

the second episode almost made me cry, I think it was really brave of them to tackle what is possibly the saddest part of the franchise - certainly in the games.

I'm watching it really slowly because the subbing team I'm using is going through it quite slowly, but I'm really enjoying it so far ... but it would've been nice to have it as a 12 episode series instead of cramming things into 4 ...

 

I just saw all of the episodes, and I have to say that was very good. I only wish they had expanded it a little bit, because were were definitely a few more things they could have done more on. I guess since each episode was more about a certain aspect, there was only so much they could do, but oh well. They were nice, and I'm hoping they don't mess it up in the dub. I'm pretty lenient with the dub, but if they mess this up too much, I'm going to go on a crazy spree.

Also, while it technically wouldn't be the origin, I think they should also do the same sort of thing for each of the next generations, so we can get something based off the games.

Plus, the fact that they even mention Kalos and Mega Evolution, wouldn't that mean that they would have to know there's more than 150? Or was that just them keeping with the original stuff still?

 

Still need to watch the episodes for this. I've heard it's based around Red's adventures?

does it all base around red's adventures or do they go onto gold and brendens and etc?

 

It's just about red. Though they do have an XY reference in the last episode
