Anyone else see echoes of religious fundamentalism/extremism here? These people seem to be taking a book/movie franchise and turning it into a religious experience that will get you damned if you don't obsess over it. Ironically, their devotion makes the whole franchise even more unpalatable. Anything with that devoted a fanbase can't be healthy; even more so when it's purely a work of fiction.

The problem is not the book at all. If we take into consideration the true nature of twilight, then we can conclude that it's just a book that falls under the average YA fiction book. (Or below average...whatever suits.)

The problem is the people, they've been blowing things out of proportion, up to the point where no reasoning can pass through. If you read most of the attacks, then you'll realize that most of the people in the site do have the book, but they don't idolize it or attack people due to their (in most cases) sensible opinion.

I mean seriously, ninja stars? Slitting of throats? Over a YA fiction book?

Unfortunately, that's not the only problem. The idolization of twilight has more or less made the average american teen girl demographic stand still in regards to literature. They read Twilight, and then don't go for the higher works of literature. That is indeed unfortunate.

Humanity is starting to scare the living shіt out of me. It's times like this I'm glad I stopped going to public schools before this whole twilight craze started. It's a book. A BOOK. I'm seriously starting to lose faith in the world more and more, with each passing day.

I've only read a few of the stories n' it is quite startlin' readin' the lengths folk will go to because someone doesn't share their opinion. But i found myself wonderin' how many of those stories are actual true. There will always be extremists that will tell lies in order to spark further angry between the groups. I'm fairly confident that some of the stories are true, or at least have some truth to 'em if not slightly exaggerated.

I have seen a few die hard Twilight fans (mainly youtube, lol), i even have one at work n' it is slightly strange how they idolise the book but the Anti-Twilight group/fans are more than likely just as bad, perhaps even worse. They know whatever they say to slag the series will infuriate the fans, providin' 'em with a chuckle or two n' so they'll persist. It might be that some of the members on that forum were unlucky enough be on the receivin' end of an awready enraged die hard fan, but you never know, they may have done somethin' in the past to annoy that fan in regards to Twilight. You never can tell. Though, i don't doubt that some Twilight fans will go the the lengths of assaultin' someone, as would Anti-twilight fans would assault a Twilight fan.

It really is a daft rift that has no possible winner. I do feel sorry for Stephenie Meyer, though. All she did was write a book for entertainment purposes n' look at all the kerfuffle surroundin' it.

Personally, i'm indifferent 'bout the series. I began readin' the first book but I had to read another book for college n' i've never had the chance to finish it. I didn't think it was that bad, but it wasn't anythin' spectacular either.

That's just plain weird and scary.

I mean, 11 Year olds beating each other up over a book?

I know many people love/hate Twilight and all, but it's just a book.

No need to get all emotional about it.

I read the books, halfway liked them. I bought a shirt that happens to be Twilight merchandise that looks really good on me with jeans. Bottom line, do I want to go that far? No freaking way. It's first of all, a book where make believe things happen, hence the bookstore putting it under romantic fantasy. Second of all, religions are based off a person, Buddha, Muhammad, Jesus Christ, whichever. What person woudl this be based off of, Edward? The people that religions are based off of, were actual people that were alive at one point. These books are only brought alive by actors, and were never real people.

Bottom line. Some people are just so much in denial about their own lives they need something like this to go crazy about and ruin it for the rest of us.

    WOAH!!!!!
No - this has got to be made up right?
    Jesus Christ...

Huh, idiotic and barbaric. I don't know what to say really, how a fantasy book can cause this type of violence is beyond my mind. I mean, just because someone hates something doesn't mean you should harm them back.
Most of these cases are pre-teens or teens, I could go on about how the book is their escapism and they try to protect it so much because it makes them feel safe, but that doesn't seem like a good enough answer for what these people have done.
Twilight fan or not, act with some decent humanity.

I hate to admit this, but I'm not that surprised by what I'm seeing.

Humanity has degraded itself into countless warring camps that seem to tetter on the edge or have gone over into fanaticism. Most of these things are over stupid, pointless things like which baseball team will win which game. Attacks on children over whether they like or hate a book doesn't seem that far off.

Again, I don't like it, I think it is disgusting, but I'm not all that surprised.

You summed it up well. I can't help but wondering whether Harry Potter has/had its share of freaks like that.

Oh, Harry Potter has its freaks all right, but as far as I know, none of them took it this far. Every fandom has its crazies, but it seems that violence is a recurrent trait in (diehard) Twilight fans. It makes sense, what with the obsessive nature of the book, that the fans would emulate the behaviors of the unrealistic characters.

One thing that I never understood about diehard Twilight fans (Well, one of many) is why they obsess over Edward in the first place. I mean, The only time we have seen him is when he is being portrayed by Robert Pattison, so surely it would make sense to obsess over Robert Pattison?

And as for the violence...it is sickening. But not surprising in the slightest.

And where the hell do teenagers get ninja stars from?

Well obviously people aren't as mad at the book as they are as it's large fanbase.

I find this both funny and appalling. Another example of how some humans have to take things to extremes and ruin things for others because some others don't agree with them.

I can't stand Twilight. Thought the books sucked. Can't stand the characters because they are whiny emo butt tards and I'd personally love to beat the crap out of Edward for being such a selfish ******cake and give the girl a mirror and tell her she's not so 'different' as she emos on, then have some girl whoop her into shape. Hope they come after me for saying so now. *ker******. I'll be waiting. xD

There are people who like Twilight that are just fine. I can't get away from them because some of them are my friends, darn it!!! I'm certainly not going to hurt my friends who like the series in any way (except for the occasional bashing when they bring it up repeatedly xD). After all, we all put up with our likes and obsessions whether any of us can't stand them. We just tend to be decent and not bring up the subject 30 times in a day with the person if we know they don't like it... while we talk to others about the subject who do. That's called -respect-. When someone is all super defensive over something, no one else's opinion matters unless that person is willing to squee with you in agreement. I could never really do more than lightly tease Twilight and give my opinion 'it sucks' to my friends, just as they have made fun of me for the Star Wars obsession or KH obsession I have had etc. It doesn't mean I think my friends suck. After all, they've dealt with me and my lame obsessions too. We all have tons of other things to relate on and be silly over.

Hope any of those absurd over-angsty violent Twiliters have gotten some legal charges because ungh.. selfish morons.

I'm going to be honest -- the amount of hate directed at Twilight has gotten to the point where I think it's much more obnoxious than the screaming fangirls. There. I said it.
I read two of the books and I thought they were decent; not awful but WAY TOO LONG for me to continue with them. But I do have a lot of friends and family that love those novels. I know none of them would ever do any of the horrible things mentioned in that thread, and to be entirely honest, I don't BELIEVE everything written in that thread either. It's like all of the Twilight fans stepped right out of Higurashi. If there are THAT many incidents happening because of those books, there are a lot of people that need help. Therapy. Something. Unless there's a news article for an incident, who's to say a hater isn't making it up to make the fans look worse than they already do? I would think that if behavior this violent was popping up in little girls, there would be a fair amount of media coverage on it. Apparently not. My apologies if all of these incidents really did happen, but on the internet I think it's only fair for me to be skeptical.
Are diehard-obsessive Twilight fans obnoxious? Yes. But there are also plenty of sensible ones, some of which I know personally. The same goes for people who don't like the series -- but I really feel that now that it's become so popular to hate Twilight, that there is at least the same amount of obnoxious haters out there too. I'm waiting very impatiently for the day this 'fad' ends and everyone finally moves on to something else, because Twilight is getting out of hand.

What are you implying by that? Stephen King is a fantastic writer. What do you mean when you say "even Stephen King"?

A renowned and critically acclaimed writer gave a negative opinion about another writer's work.

I believe I was the first person to show these stories, and it does show how extensive some of the series' fans obsess over a book that's only average in actual writing quality. It's honestly the only fictional book where I've seen such behavior, and it kinda scares me o.o

It's because he bothered to comment on it, probably. I agree the writing style was shabby. But yeah, Twilight itself annoys me and the vampires sparkling is just one reason. However, there's a point to say that I also don't have to dwell on it and as said, I have other obsessions I love that others go 'wrryy?' about. We all like to get into somethings and other people are going to bash it because they don't get why.

Ah, I see. For a second I thought the person was implying King wasn't a good writer, and "even he" considered Twilight to be badly written. Sorry, misunderstanding on my part there.

Yeah, the main reason Twilight Sucks was created was because Anti-Twilighters wanted an internet community where they could express their opinions about the series and not be afraid of getting attacked for it. Although we do have trolls visit the site every so often.
