Oh I was giving a point on the etymology and not necessarily the history, sir. The differentiation in regards to the history was more appropriate for something more specific, and the horribly misplaced was in reference to the belief that the Americans invented the word "Soccer" since they used the term quite a bit - here, at least. As you can tell I am horrible at jokes.
Sports have some strange names in reference to their mechanics. I do not think I should question why rugby and similar sports are considered general forms of football for my own sanity.
