In the Family I was always told that killing is wrong, that life is sacred, that love should be strong. I took it to heart believed in it fully, showed it in believed it never once was a bully. But as I grew older the world seemed to change I couldn't control it it was out of my range. Another thing told a home propaganda my family's always right in their business and a friend or a lover it did not matter who was no more important than dirt on a shoe. Turns out my upbringing, was quite a lie, for more than a decade they were mafiosi One day they tested me, and on that one day my brother was tasked, had someone to slay. His victim they chose was my lover, my friend, Emily, she owed money which of course he did lend. I told him he couldn't my family was mad at me not my brother I found it quite sad. My father agreed if I got in the way my blood would be spilled t'was the cost to betray. I was selfish, I stayed silent and lost Emily, my love's blood was spilled I chose family.
A little, personally felt villanelle. Choosing There was a time I thought I knew it all But now, it seems, that I could not, did not I feel right now like I am going to bawl It took one time for my morals to stall My uncertainty is a deathly clot There was a time I thought I knew it all Thoughts of right and wrong have come to a crawl My judgment right now is not worth a snot I feel right now like I am going to bawl
So sorry for the delay, folks. To @Godzilla and @Sebax I hope to have the results up sometime within the next week. A combination of personal issues and a hectic school schedule kept me from really addressing this any sooner. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone, but I can assure you that this competition will continue.
I would like to give a big thanks to Cstar and Sebax for their participation in this round. And now, the results. You both rhymed with conviction, but there can only be one winner: [*violent drumming noises*] Spoiler: WINNER cstar Here's what our judges had to say about your piece. Pros: Good flow Clear topic Nature v. Nurture Nice Narrative Cons: Weird enjambment Not. Enough. Punctuation. Spoiler: HONORABLE MENTION Sebax Here's what our judges had to say about your piece. Pros: Nice repetition. "Kudos for doing a villainelle!" Personal nature of the moral struggle Cons: Doesn't really flow. Message seemed hollow. Wasn't really unique. Was quite short; could've been expanded upon Both of you were great, that can't be denied! You did your best and with rhymes, you tried. But only one winner can there be In this battle of writing such poetry. The winner will be receiving their pin shortly. Did you want to enter but miss your chance? Don't worry!
