Return of Kira

Mellody sighed. "Ok..." She gestured for her to pick a tap.

 

"What is it, pick on the cripple day?" Lana muttered as she pulled herself up from her seat, feeling the strain of the stitches against her taughtened skin. Grabbing hold of a random tape from the pile, waving it slightly at Mellody as though to ask; 'This one alright?'

 

"You're choice." Mellody shrugged.

 

"Not like I know what any of them are..." She mumbled replacing the tape of the cake fight with the one that was in her hands. Then returning to her seat. "Nice place by the way, kinda feeling bad about not saying anything nice the whole time I've been here."

 

"You hate me..." Mellody reminded. "You're not meant to compliment anything that do or that i own."
Mello looked over at her queitly. Still... maybe she's not so bad... and contineud to look at the screen shortly afterwards, sighing as another hospital clip came up, this time with double screens, one side showing Lana reaching for her telephone, the other showing Near walking up to her room.

 

"I don't hate you, I just hate the fact I was out of the picture for like a week and you're suddenly trying to beat the sh*t out of him." Lana explained. "That's all." She sighed "And he got there really quickly... Even if I hadn't spent god knows how long making my mind up about calling him he still would of been there before I pressed dial..."

 

"Of course, he cares for you..." Mellody taunted cheekily.

 

"We're friends, that's it."

 

"whatever." Melldoy shrugged.

 

"Why do you find it so hard to belive that we're just close friends?"

 

"I know your friends." Mellody exlpained. "But i know you both want to be more than just friends, and if one of you's die without admitting how you feel..."

 

"But; If I do love him, and I do tell him that doesn't change the fact Near is dying... You know that right? It'd just be setting both of us up to get hurt so much more then if things just stay as it is..."

 

"Tell me..." Mellody started. "What do you think is worse? showing him love and compassion that only you can for the last few moments of his life, or having him die not knowing you love him?"

 

"If I did love him, which I don't, at least not like that, I don't know what I'd do. I'd say that at least this way I wa-- am here for him, but I'm not making matters worse. Which is what I'd do." She explained, the subject of Near's impending death obviously a topic of great distress to her as she couldn't even bring herself to use the past tense when she spoke of looking back to that day from the not to distant future..

 

"L... i mean Lana..." Mellody started softly. "it'll hurt alot more if you don't at least admit you love him..."

 

Lana sighed heavily as she pushed herself up from her seat and walked over to a nearby window. Pushing the curtain aside slightly as she gazed out over the soft city lights. "What weird is I used to hate him, everything about him made me so mad." She laughed softly "The fact he always plays with his hair, the whole full grown guy playing with toys thing. Used to drive me insane. I just wanted to slap him all the time. Tell him to grow up and act like his age... I used to want to kill him the second I saw him, everything about him just used made me so unbeliveabley angry..."

 

Mellody smiled at her softly. "But don't you see... you never really hated him you were just unsure about you're feelings... now you know them clearly, so why don't you let someone know? Let someone finally get close enough to help you out for once?"

 

"No, I really did hate him. I really did. I did the whole smashing up some of his toys thing. Not oringinal, but served it's purpose." She laughed, the giggles fading into a deep and heavy sigh. "And the reason I'm not acting on it at all, be that passively or actively is that, in the end, everyone I care about leaves me, I don't know how much more of that I can take. But me and my feelings don't really don't matter in the scheme of things. So all I do is try my best to help. Though Near doesn't need need me. You know, if he'd just listen to the doctors and take things easier then he wouldn't be in this mess... This whole thing would be over, he says he's fine but there's no way this would be taking so damn long if he was alright. But he's not, and that's not his fault at all. But having me would just make things more difficult. I just want what's best for him, and what's best for him is not having any extra complications. I'm a complication, so he doesn't need me. I may not be able to controll what he thinks and feels, but I can sure as hell make sure I don't make situations worse. And telling him what I feel for him would sure as hell have the same effect as throwing gasoline on a fire, if he worries about me now what the hell would he be like if we were a couple? But, the chances of that are so small because I'm still certain he doesn't love me."

 

Mellody sighed deeply. "It's late and you've gone trhough alot today..." She started. "Go hom, get some rest, just start coming around more often ok?"

 

“Well, congratulations Mellody. You won…” Lana sighed as she let the curtain fall back into place. “You were right…” She mumbled, gazing blankly at the smooth fabric curtains. Then her watch slowly shifted over towards the leather-clad blonde who was still seated on the sofa across the room. “I love him…”
