"Please, I have seen worse things then someone being tired." Benedict said.

 

Lana sighed sadly and looked from Near to Benedict and then back again. Why do I always end up talking about this... The one thing I don't want to talk about and the conversation always get back around to him dying..."I'm assuming he's not one of the few who know then Near... Let's just leave it at it's not just exhuastion that's getting to him. It's kinda... a lot worse then that. I won't say anymore though sir. Not exactly my place to tell people."

 

"Is it the fact that he never eats?" Benedict asked.

 

"That's certianly not helping matters." She replied, dropping heavy hints for Near on the words 'Not' and 'helping'. It was difficult to make Benedict realise the gravity of the situation without spilling everything. And Near was seeming so engrossed in fixing the train he didn't seem to be listening in enough to realise what they were really talking about.

 

"Sorry." Benedict said.

 

"Not like you knew, or know or whatever." Lana said, trying once again to shrug through reflex. The stiches pulling and one of the staples catching onto the fabric of her shirt causing it to pull her skin. "M*ther F*cker..." She muttered shuddering in pain and biting down on her lower lip to stop from yelping, the pain leaving her slightly breathless. "I've got to stop bl**dy well doing that..."

 

"You okay?" Benedict asked.

 

"I'm fine, just the staples in my back. Ripped my stiches out earlier, that's why I was in hospital again, and they're still kinda raw and sore and sh*t." She explained leaning backwards as she arched her back and leaned forwards again. "Just remembering shrugging is a very very bad idea isn't as easy as it sounds."

 

"God, that must suck. I can hardly trust hospitals." Benedict said.

 

"I'm just a jinx, everything that can go wrong for me has a tendancey to happen. About ten mintues ago there was a bang, you hear it? That was me skidding on the floor in the lobby and crashing to the floor. And you weren't here when me and Near got p*ssed. I had the bright idea of walking up the stairs backwards, of course I fell and ended up landing ontop of him, I mean: Who really does that? It's like something from a cheesy sitcom."

 

"I see." Benedict said trying not to laugh.

 

"You can laugh you know, I was p*ssed at the time. And it's pretty damn funny." She laughed. "How many people can say they've done that in their life times?"

 

"I have done a few stupid things in my life. But I have seen bad things too in my years as a detective." Benedict said.

 

"Mine hasn't exactly been a barrel of laughs. In the year I've been a detective I've been shot three times, seen around six people die in front of me and seen I've forgotten how many shot. Though that I've gotten used to now. It's the more personal, the more real life deaths that get to me now... The slow ones... The ones you can see coming..."

 

"interesting. My last case before I joined the SPK was a bit...distrubing..." Benedict said shuddering a bit.
