I really hope that it is the missing link......that way, scientists can prove that we are a product of evolution......i can't wait....:)

Well I'm not denying that the continents did not look the same as what we currently have compared to that time period, but it would be migration nonetheless, although using your facts, to Africa. However we have yet to find any of these fossils in Africa to our current public knowledge. Then again, facts on this thing could change.

I agree. I really do. We just don't really know enough about it to make any sort of assumptions about it's life patterns. Hell, someone in Africa could have another one of these things (or parts of one) without any of us knowing!

Though archaeologists or anthropologists actually scouring all of the population of Africa like that would be extremely time consuming and challenging, of course. Even if they check the locals in the most logical area of central Africa/the Great Rift Valley and its surroundings. If the migration theory proves correct then unfortunately the only way I see we could find relative evidence with more ease is to dig up the fossils straight from the land itself.

This actually makes me really nervous. I can just imagine all of the controversy. Though I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. Keep us posted. ;3

Wow, I'm really really excited about this. I can't wait to hear more about it, this is an amazing find!

Hahaha, I bet those poor fools who originally found it and "didn't realize the importance of their find" are kicking themselves right about now...

Migration theory isn't that far-fetched, just look at the new theories coming out about Homo floresiensis which they now think travelled in rafts (which is ****ing advanced as hell considering the time they are said to have been in existence)

Besides, migration DID happen, that is how species got out of Africa and went onto to exist in other places anyway. Otherwise we would all still be in Africa now xD

I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it. [****** moment]

If this is the missing link then Oh My God. I will listen for more information. Yet once again, Australian TV fails to present this to the citizens of its country. It would be devastating to find within more tests that it isn't the missing link. T_T.

Hahaha. Well wouldnt Jesus be proud? xD.

There is still a lot of debate about that as well, but more and more scientists are accepting the fact that this is a new species. Besides, humans (and apparently, our non-intelligent ancestors which gave rise to us) have always been wanderers in some sense.

Well of course there is going to be debate about it, new species and their capabilities is always a controversial issue, if they find something new it means they have been wrong about other **** xD

I personally think it is fantastic, and it would be silly to think that we have uncovered every aspect of our ancestors.

I do just have to add one thing, we really cannot say that any of our ancestors were lacking in intelligence, just look at how long tools have been in use, even basic ones such as bone picks, or using pieces of wood.

There was an article I read the other day, some new piece of artwork has been found which pushes back the idea of sculptures etc, damn I can't remember what it said x:

Point I am trying to make is, we can't assume anything. Everything we know can change in an instant.

I'm looking forward to the report <:

Well then, if basically every species under the genus Homo is thought to have migrated towards other parts of the world from Africa (which of course is relative fact), then you can take that migration theory for this possible new species as fact also.

For sure, I personally don't doubt the possibility.

Though I do have to point out that some species have ONLY been found in Africa. Though admittedly that is going back much further than just the Homo line to some of our oldest ancestors.

Wait. So our oldest ancestors were in Africa. Then the missing link is in Germany. Then we go back to Africa?

I'm sorry I ever brought up location. I'm just getting more confused.

To be honest love I could be completely wrong.

Our oldest ancestors fall into Palaeontology, which, whilst I find it interesting, I don't know as much about as I do Archaeology.

I'll see if I can find my notes from Evolution, they might help a few of us out xD

The only fossil that has been found is in Germany. Who knows? There could be more in Africa that we just don't know about. Or maybe they lived in an area that didn't lend itself to preservation very well, and there are very few specimens left at all. I mean, we can barely find any human (well, early human) evidence even 6 million years back, because they didn't live in a very preserving environment.

No, I believe she means our earliest ancestors were found in Africa, but with the evolution of the Homo genus most of the mid and late Homo species spread out from Africa, this new "missing link" possibly included.

umm, I hope I'm reading this wrong, but this new species is not in the Homo genus... in fact, it's far before anything on this planet had higher intelligence (probably). This new species is the branching point for all simians. I.e. the line of Mammals diverged off here, at this species, into the simians (all monkeys, lemurs, apes, and humans), as opposed to other species (bovines, felines, ursines, canines, etc.).

Gah, I'm extremely sorry about that. I didn't mean the Homo genus, I meant the new species and its line itself. Sorry about the mistake, I had been very tired that night.
