Some of the best inside jokes came from Health class... Ah, I remember now... The teacher had fire paper and they represented a boy and a girl. Then she lit them up and they went "POOF!" and she was all ">O THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET LOST IN THE FLAMES OF PASSION OKAY KIDDOS?!"

...Yeah... Our school uses weird metaphors...

Last year it was cake. O.o "Baking a cake" is building the relationship and sex is the icing on top.

    Then there was that video...

Personally, it cracks me up. Most girls are like "-_-" when a guy in the class goes "LOLZ SEX. 8D" but I think it's hysterical.

Also... Yeah, some people debate over the age on this... but 5th graders are NOT innocent. Trust me. My brother is insanely naive, though, and asked me what a whore was.

So, yeah, they need to know sooner or later.

sex ed is perfectly normal. i had it in middle school and i already knew about sex and sexual exterior organs by then. anyways, i dont see why people complain about it. schools have papers that parents sign to give their permission for their child to be in the class. you learn about sexual organs, inside and out, about pregnncy, about prevention, about STDs, and about abstinence. and i dont think that sex ed encourages kids to have sex. all it does is prepapre them for the day so that they know how to keep themselves safe during sex (i.e. using a condom or other preventative measure). also, at my school they really stressed being abstinent.

another thing they teach that is great is how to react when pressured to have sex, what to do if you are raped, and also about the cycles boys and girls go through during puberty. its all very educational ;) .

sex ed was just another class for me.

I hate sex ed. They should separate the boys and girls during that class. It's very awkward learning about the female parts when guys giggle in the back.

I guess that is why people complain. In 5th grade, we had Sex Ed and I wasn't given any papers. Again every year in Middle School and still no papers. We just had it without warning.

I know. We had a lot of boys in our sex-ed class last year...it was really REALLY awkward indeed.

And, we had to watch this really weird movie. We were the only class who watched all of it.

no papers, mari? and a coed class? that is not how my sex ed was at all. there were separated classes (boys and girls- for the most part. when learning about somethings they grouped us together, but we werent learning about the "awkward" things then). we also always had to get papers signed. i had a few friends whose parents did not want them to take the class. instead, the parents could allow them to take abstinence class or no class. most took abstinence class where they only learned that sex was bad and that it should only be done after marriage. if you ask me, thats no way to educate a child. sex is a real thing that they will come face to face with eventually, and they should at least know about prevention incase their constitution is not strong enough to say no to sex.

anyways, i guess i can understand parents complaining in your situation. still, i personally think that sex ed is an important class that should definitely be offered in all schools.

Offered, yes. But should't it be an option just in case kids are a little too uncomfterable about being taught about sex by their teacher? My school like...forces us to take it.

my school didnt force us and although i personally think that everyone should be made to learn about this (then maybe we wouldnt have so many pregnant teens), i dont believe in forcing my beliefs on others. so, offered? yes. forced? no.

I agree with this. Maybe the reason why so many teens are getting pregnant is because they don't have sex ed, or they just don't listen when they do. :?

I think teens will get pregnant reguardless. Even elementary school students know how to protect themselves. Teen pregnancy is a choice unless they have been raped. But I also can be wrong. I've never seen a teen who didn't know about condoms over here.

not to be steoreotypical or discriminative, but i live in the south of usa and you would be surprised how many people are not aware of all the different ways to protect against pregnancy and such. then again, i also live in the bible belt and they teach you here that you have to be abstinent until after marriage.... so i dont think they really discuss all this sex stuff, which could be why so many people get pregnant.

also, some people are just careless and really would get pregnant regardless of having sex-ed or not, and even others are just too horny and use abortion as a contraceptive, which is a whole different discussion.

I don't think teachers are trying to be sick...although I've heard about some of them freaking the class out since they were talking about sex with a little TOO much detail...

well....i don't see what the problem is. i found those lessons to be very enlightening....BUT....i found the educational videos to be too......graphic...... maybe they just need to cut out the videos?

What is so gross about it, Its how you where made. And in a year or so you all will be wanting it so the best thing to do is listen and learn about what is safe, whats not and how things work.
