Apparently they've never heard of Christian Rock, relationships, or any form of any public form of personal affection.

    [SARCASM]Yay for religious fundamentalism![/SARCASM]

My mom used to tell me (when I still listened to her advice) that rock music consisted solely of crude lyrics and cursing. As I listen to this, I am listening to a playlist on my computer consisting of nothing but rock, and nothing bad has happened to me. Tolerance: 1, fanaticism: 0. Seriously, religious fundamentalists need to get the f*ck over themselves. Let people live their lives, and sh*t like this won't happen, and you can avoid ridicule from people like me.

I read this awhile ago. It's wrong for them to prevent a student to do something in his personal life. It's not like the school has to hold a dance, but if the student wants to go to a dance, the school has no right to prohibit it in the first place.

We had a debate at school, that only Christian music is the right type of music. Not Christian Rock or contempary, strictly Christian.
    My favorite argument:
Christianity is a religion, not a genre. It's like saying let's go listen to Jewish Rock (which probably exists)

You go, Kevin. Good job. :'D

I agree 100%. That school can't tell him what he can and can't do. If I were him I'd just drop it and go to another school. Though my parents would be pissssseeedddd.

My school does the same thing, except you're allowed to go to another prom we just don't have one.

My friend also was about to go to another Christian school but the contract forbade her to listen to anything but Christian music.

I think that rules like these violate freedom of expression. Just because songs aren't Christian doesn't mean they're bad. It just doesn't mention God.

Besides I used to listen to Christian radio, but either all of the songs are similar or they just kept playing the same ones over and over again.

This is stupid, I mean, the school is controlling nearly everything in this kids life. I don't believe that's fair. Individualism is a part of life and this school is basically turning the students into zombies. I'd leave.. straight away... I wouldn't even join.

The point people are forgetting is he almost certainly did not choose to go to that school. His parents will have made that decision for him, as well as what he can and cannot believe in (hence why I see it as child abuse).

I'd say if he tried to move to another school his parents probably would have disowned him, that's how it works with fundamentalists.

What is wrong with dancing? It isn't like they were making babies on the dancefloor.

Religion already forces people to think and follow set beliefs and ideas, but there is such a thing as going too far. To restrict their choices in music and their lives, that is ****ed up.

I am pretty sure you can still have faith and like to dance.

:\ **** like this makes me glad I stopped following religion.

Also, forbidding hand holding? wtf, my school were pretty happy if all we were doing was holding hands.

I feel bad for the dude.

School shouldn't be able to tell you what to do when you're not in it. That was his business and they had no right to do that.

You will find that they probably did have the "right". Schools of this type (my own even does and it's a state school) will usually have a contract. If you don't follow the contract you get kicked out. You don't like it you move. The point I make is he didn't choose to be at that school, his parents did. Hence the wrong that was done.

Alright. The teenager, who was apparently banned from dancing, attended a social event containing dancing anyway, which he knew he would be at fault for. The school banned him from dancing, which is wrong for obvious reasons. The other school isn't really at fault here, which is understandable because I'm not sure they had any idea here. But the media is also at fault, they see fit to make a huge situation out of this interfering with EVERYTHING.

Well really, the media wouldn't have been able to make a huge deal out of it if the school hadn't gone so far in restricting its pupils anyway you know?

The kid wouldn't be at fault for daring to have fun with his girlfriend and be a teenager if the school hadn't gone so far in restricting its pupils.

The only one that I see as being in the wrong is the school.

You should know as well as I do that as nice as that would be, that's not the way the world works. When a higher-up tells you to do something, you do it or suffer the consequences. The system doesn't have exeptions for having fun with girlfriends, as sad as that is. This kid knew he would get in trouble and did it anyway.

For sure, and I didn't deny that he was in the wrong in this situation, what I said was that if the school hadn't gone so far in restricting its pupils then none of this would have happened.

So whilst I see your point and acknowledge what you are saying, the school is the root cause for this happening and spiralling.

Hence my opinion that the school are really the ones at fault.
