    I'm not sure there was, but I'm fairly sure that he didn't have to be in power to bring the Nazi party to power. Do you want to know why Hitler was put into power? Because they thought it would limit his influence. It's entirely possible that if Hitler had not been put into power, he could have motivated somebody else in the Nazi party to try to get into power. The only difference is that Hitler would not be at liberty to declare war, somebody else from the same political party would. Now this is mostly conjecture, but it's still not unlikely.

    While Hitler didn't bring the Nazi party to power on his own, he was responsible for the party's revival in 1925 (and was "its undisputed Leader"), and he surrounded himself with people who were experts in propaganda, etc.
    And Hitler became the Chancellor of Germany because his party received most votes in the parliamentary election. And less than a month after that, due to the Reichstag fire he was able to convince the President into giving him emergency powers.
    Just read this article, simpler than me paraphrasing everything I learned in history class...
