Soul Eater- A Witch's Academy is on the Rise?

"Maybe it is the thing that's been taking the kids. But-" Maka didn't have time to finish her sentence.

The clown had a feeling that one of the meddling humans would attack it, and it was right. He had enough time to turn around and block the attack, and it barely made an impact on it. "What a tasty snack you'll make," the clown said in a creepy mechanical voice. It then pulled away from Merlie and then jumped up. As soon as it was above Merlie, it began to bring its claw down towards her. If it impacted, she would probably be a gonner.

Another clown popped up, this one being an orange color. This one was going straight for Maka as it charged towards her.

Maka saw this one coming and turned around with Soul in her hand. She took the blow directly and then raised up Soul to strike at it again. She brought it down towards the clown and made an impact, but it didn't slice through. "What the- It's not getting through!"

Zoey was about to go in and help, when suddenly she felt a presence coming from her left. "Zoey! Nine-o-clock!" she heard Koji call. Zoey quickly brought her staff up in that position and suddenly felt a super strong force slam against Koji, sending them flying back. Zoey cried out in surprise and braced herself for impact. She couldn't see since she was in the air, and this always scared her. "PUT YOUR FEET UP IN THREE!!!" Zoey quickly did what Koji said and moved her body to the three o' clock position as they flew in the air. She felt her feet collide with a rotton wooden wall as it broke under her weight. She was lost temporarily where the ground was and fell helplessly. She landed arms first into the ground and then the rest followed afterward. Nothing was broken though.

Zoey coughed and got up slowly, scared and confused. The pain was numbed by her fear. "Koji, what's going on, where are we?"

"We're in an abandoned game booth. You're surrounded by debris on all sides. We just got attacked by another one of those clown things- ONE O' CLOCK!"

Zoey moved her staff and blocked an attack that came from the side. It was the same force as before, but it was lighter... ish. She listened to the sound wavelength, quickly drawing a picture in her head as she moved where Koji told her to go. This was hard for her, really hard. 'Oh man, why did I come?!'

Sekira made her way to the opening of the cave as soon as she saw a boy younger than her walk in before her. He was already eager to get souls. "Huh... let's see if I can get any." Sekira made her way to the entrance and then stepped inside. The noise stopped, all eyes were turned on the two intruders.

"Who the heck are you?" one of the gang members pipped up.

"A bunch of lousy kids wanting to join our gang."

A cat whistle was heard in the crowd. "Hey baby, sorry to say this but we're full up. But you look like a girl who-"

Everyone hushed up when Sekira flashed her blades in front of them. "On the contrary... we're here to collect your souls..." Her tone was dark and brooding, sending a wave of dread over the crowd before her.

"Your day of judgment has finally arrived," Grendel muttered. "Say your last GOOD-BYE!" Grendel suddenly charged to the nearest guy and slaughtered him in one slice with Terra. A soul appeared soon afterward. Grendel went for the kill elsewhere as the gang started to panic and take up their crude weapons to defend themselves.

OOC: I hope I'm doing okay guys. T_T

Since someone mentioned to me through PMs that this is hard to keep track of, here's what's going on with the amusement park:
Three clowns are attacking. The purple one is focusing on Merlie. The orange one is focusing on Maka. And the green one (Which Koji didn't have a chance to say the color) is focusing on Zoey, and is actually pushing her away from the group.

 

Merlie threw herself to the side and rolled, barely getting away from the clown's attack. She wracked her brain for something to do, but couldn't think of anything. If she tried to attack directly again, chances were it was going to block her again. And she might not be so lucky as to dodge its next attack.

"Throw me." Kirby said suddenly. "Do it!"

Trusting her partner, Merlie threw Kirby with all her might. She thought it would have been better if Kirby could hit behind the clown while she distracted its front; and suddently, Kirby changed paths. He swung around the clown in a wide arc. Merlie yelled to the clown, "Hey, ugly! You think you can get rid of me that easily?!" She jumped up and down and waved her arms, hoping to draw the clowns attention so that Kirby could land his hit.

"What are these things made of? Why can't I get throught?" Soul frowned. They could try again, but would it do any good?

"Hey! What the hell are you doing?!" Colt, the founder and leader of the gang stood up in front of his boys. He stared at the unwelcome guests, analyzing who they were. The girl looked serious, but the guy looked just plain bloodthirsty. He was unnevered by the instant murder of one of his boys, but he had to remain the leader. "If it's information you want, we've got it. Our reputation speaks for itself."

 

Stein jumped back a bit and began to observe the fight take place. He was surprised at how well these students were faring but was curious about the clowns that were attacking. If needed he would proceed to attack even without a weapon but for now he wanted to see how well the students were

 

Fae bowed, thanking Sid and Nigus. "Thank you much!" she giggled. She walked around the auditorium, getting a nagging feeling. She wanted to look for Maka, maybe help. Her thoughts were elsewhere as she rolled up her scheduale and put it in a pocket. "Rrrr... If only I had a partner." she growled. 'Could I spy on Lord Death and find out where Maka is? But then I'll get caught... Maybe the crows!' She contemplated different ideas, unsure. 'I'll just call a murder.'
Fae decided this with a final thought. But she had to get out in order to say her spell without getting caught.
As Fae headed out, she breathed deeply. "It was stuffy in there."

 

"I'm not sure!" Maka said as she shoved against the clown and pushed off from it. Maka brought up Soul, and quickly caculated the situation. "Okay, outside attacks don't work. Maybe only internal attacks work." Maka hissed through her teeth in frustration and then stood deeper in her fight position. "This isn't good." She knew that they didn't have attacks that attacked the inwards of the target. They only had outside attacks to deal with.

The clown charged forward towards Maka, coming at her with all its energy and strength. When it was about to strike Maka, Maka suddenly jumped up in the air, avoiding the attack completely. She then pushed against the clown with her foot and shoved off of it, sending it to eat the dirt.

Maka landed behind it and brought up Soul again, watching it carefully since she knew these things could go underground and they were slippery little things. "What should we do Soul?"

The clown's attention was drawn to Merlie. She was open, but she was acting like this was part of the plan. The clown kept that in mind as he advanced towards Merlie, ready to strike her with its claw.

Meanwhile, Zoey was being pushed back, getting further and further away from the group. She could tell, because the fighting and the yelling from them was getting quieter and quieter. Remember what Maka told them to do, Zoey screamed out, "MAK-" But then another attack was driven towards her, cutting her short. "Jump back three paces!" Koji yelled out from the staff. Zoey did what she was told and stood ready. She could hear the clown clicking and whirling as it charged towards her. "Attack combo two and three!" Zoey gripped the staff and positioned herself. She knew where the stupid clown was now. "Alright, here we go."

To the clown's surprise, his target disappeared momentarily. When he went to look to see where she went, he suddenly felt an impact on his side.

"Blind side!" Zoey yelled out. Then she countered an attack, and then went for the clown again. Koji started to glow a bright neon green color, and then Zoey went in for the kill. "Knick!" She slammed the staff in the clown's side again, "KNACK!"

The inward attack sent the clown reeling backwards as it screamed in pain. Its joints were fizzing and sending sparks of electricity everywhere. But it wasn't down for the count yet.

Zoey stepped back, her hands shaking with fright. She waited for Koji to give her the next commands, since now she had an idea of what the park looked like. "Run towards five o' clock, that's where the others are! Oh man, it's mad!" Zoey could tell by the way it was sizzling and moving that it was out to get rid of her once and for all. Zoey turned to where Koji told her to go and started to book it as fast as possible to the others. Suddenly, she heard something land in front of her, "Dodge roll ot the left!" She did as she was told and felt the air from the attack brush against her skin. The sound was suddenly muffled around her. She must've been inside of something. "You're inside a funhouse or something," Koji said. "Try going back o-" There was a noise that something entered in the enterance, and Zoey suddenly felt a hand push her back away from the noise. She also heard Koji yell out in pain and her eyes widened. 'Did he...?' Her heart pounded in her chest. "KOJI!"

Koji was hit by the clown's claw, but he was just scratched. He sent a soul soundwave towards the clown, making it temporarily confused. He then grabbed Zoey by the hand and pulled her along deeper into the Funhouse.

"He can't hear you," Sekira said as she walked towards the guy. "Even I can't stop him now. But maybe you can talk to me... and maybe you'll live. Tell me what you know."

 

Stein began to sense that Koji and Zoey were moving father away from the group this is bad I cant have them working alone on their first mission Stein thought and looked over at Maka "I'm going to help Zoey and Koji. Be careful" Stein said as he jumped down the hole caused by Zoey earlier and ran forward. As he ran he came upon the clown up ahead and jumped forward at it. His hand began to spark with electricity

 

Feeling the body slice at her power exicted Terra, but for Grendel's sake she forced herself to stay calm. "Good work, partner. This shouldn't take long at all."


Beyond entered the cave casusally and took a look around. The boy with the claws was making easy work of the gang members while the female decieded to talk to them. Both people had good ways of going about this, but probably would of paid little attention to him.

The clawed boy and his weapon left behind a soul as they moved on to kill more of the gang members. Shrugging, Beyond went over to claim it. Not too classy, but if it works... He then looked over his shoulder after devouring the soul. It does not seem like she is partnered up with anyone... He thought to himself, debating on how to go about this any futher.

ooc - since he did not eat the soul in the post I assumed it was left there... I'll edit if you want me to.

 

"We've got to get inside it somehow," Soul began to think aloud. "I can't cut through it, and I'm not sure how a soul wavelenght attack will work. Watch his feet, Maka, and see if you can knock him off balance. If we get it on its back, we can find out if its stomach is vunerable."

Merlie took a couple steps backward, carefully flicking her eyes from the clown to Kirby and back again. "You're not much a guard if you can't even stop a kid like me!" She kept up her taunting to hold the clown's attention. Her eyes focused back on Kirby, who quickly plunged straight down, sharp tip poised to pierce the back of the clown's neck. If this hit went through, they might be rid of the clown. Merlie could only hope their plan would work.

"Well," Colt cocked his head to one side, arms folded. "Why don't you tell me what you're doing here, first? What excuse do you have for killing us? Depending on your answer, I might be obliged to tell you what you want to know."

 

Angel watched as Sekira went into the cave. As she crept closer she could hear all sorts of voices as they echoed out of the mouth of the cave. Angel stayed out of sight as she amped herself up. She wasn't an evil person by nature, and so far she has never killed someone. Thus, she needed a little time to psyche herself up to it. Her breathing became faster as she stared at nothing. She had unsheathed her sword and her eyes slowly became unfocused. Soon she began to twitch in a strange way at times. With a trained eye someone would have felt a touch of insanity residing inside Angel which would explain her somewhat rapid transformation. Hearing footsteps go past her and into the cave, Angel followed the new arrival as she heard the last tidbits of the conversation between a gang member and Sekira. "Hey, heh heh heh, were we actually here for a reconnaissance mission instead? Cause, cause I thought we were just supposed to dispose of the problem." Angel blabbered deliriously. "'Sides, what kind of useless information would these, these cockroaches have anyway?" She stated as she leaned against the wall of the cave for support still breathing a little faster than normal. Angel giggled as she tried to focus her eyesight on her surroundings. Everything was slightly blurry save for the gang members themselves. They looked crystal clear to Angel.

 

OOC: Changing Zoey's color to this color because I'm bringing in someone else, and it's going to get people confused after a while.

BIC:
The clown was taken off guard and stumbled forward from the force of Kirby's attack. It was hit, but the only damage it had was a small dent.

Maka nodded her head and watched the clown where Soul told her to look. She could see where to go with this. She could make the creepy clown fall right on its face again "Right."

Aggravated to have been shoved into the ground, the clown stumbled up and looked straight at Maka. It's outer mask pulled away, revealing an even creepier face. "Time to finish you!" The clown started to charge to Maka who was patiently waiting for it to get to her, when suddenly a shadow jumped in front of it and slammed himself into the clown. "Certain Kill: Black☆Star Big Wave!" Instantly, the clown screamed out as its insides were fried and it tumbled to the ground in a heap.

Black☆Star slowly stood up from his attack, being completely serious. Then he threw his head back and burst out in an annoying victory laugh. "Now that was my best entrance yet!" He then looked at the clown and grinned, leaning down close to it. "Who's the big guy now? ME OF COURSE! HA, HA, HA!"

Maka stood there in shock, not really expecting this to happen. "B-Black☆Star? Where did you come from?"

"Hm?" Black☆Star turned to see Maka standing there, dumbfounded. "Star struck by the biggest star?" Black☆Star winked and then gave the thumbs up. "You were being so slow as usual, I thought I'd finish the clown for ya."

The clown now turned its attention on Stien, its claw was dripping with blood. The clown let out a mechanical giggle and then moved quickly away from Stien as though as it was just playing tag with him.

Zoey stumbled along where Koji was pulling her, not sure where they were going. She was worried sick about him, since obviously something bad just happened to him. "Koji, are you hurt?"

"I'm okay," Koji said, trying to make his voice sound relaxed. His shoulder felt like it was on fire, but he didn't want Zoey to worry. Koji suddenly stepped out into empty air and fell downward into a dark abyss, Zoey following behind. The fall was short, but it hurt when he landed on something that felt like flour sacks. He looked up to see that the place where they fell through was a trap door. "Ugh, dang it." The doors above them closed, leaving the two of them in complete darkness. Koji took in a deep, shaky breath and then winced in pain while clutching his shoulder. 'How bad is this anyways?'

"You lied to me, you are hurt." Zoey said somewhere in the dark. Koji felt Zoey's gentle hand touch his shoulder close to his cut and he flinched away. "Don't worry about me," Koji said as he struggled to stand up. "We need to get out of this place..."

Zoey sighed out as she stood up as well. Koji was hurt... How badly? She didn't know. She clenched her fists in anger, temporarily feeling sorry for her disability. She knew if she tried to apologize for what happened, Koji would brush it off like it was nothing. "Where are we anyways, Koji?" She heard Koji sigh and then said, "I think we're underneath the funhouse. I'm not sure exactly. It's pitch black in here. I can't see a thing." Zoey couldn't help but to smile. She understood how Koji felt. "Okay... can you turn into your weapon form?"

"Yeah," Koji said softly. He shifted into a green orb, then flashed as the staff in Zoey's hand.

Zoey gripped Koji and then started to feel her way around the place. She'll figure a way out of here. Who knows, maybe she might find the kids. 'I hope the others are doing okay...'

Sekira kept her eyes on Colt, not even looking at Angel. "Maybe some valuable information. We're here to get rid of you. Your gang posses a threat to our territory, we're the dominate ones now." Sekira was growing a bit impatient as she heard gun shots being fired behind her and men screaming. "I can end you if you wish to withhold the information from me. There are many other sources I can choose from, you know."

 

OOC: Woohoo!! =D I've been missing our little, blue-haired spaz-ball!

BIC: "Hey, Black☆Star!" Soul greeted the miester. "Took you long enough to get here." Soul had briefly thought earlier about mad Black☆Star would be when he found out missions were given to everyone but him. It wasn't much a surprise, but it certainly was a relief. Now that that clown was out of the way, Soul could afford to pay attention to the new students.

Merlie scooped up Kirby when he clattered to the ground in front of her. "It didn't work...?" Merlie stared wide-eyed at the clown. She was almost out of ideas when she remembered something she'd read while studying to enter the DWMA. "Kirby, I'm going to try something. If it doesn't work, I want to you get to the others. Don't worry about me."

"Merlie, what are you going to do? If it's dangerous, don't do it! We can beat this guy without taking dumb risks." Kirby protested.

"Ssh! Let me do this." Merlie hushed her partner. She stared at the clown's eyes, holding her ground now. She held out her free hand in front of her and concentrated. The books she'd read had done a fairly good job at explaining how to use one' soul wavelength at a weapon, but Merlie had never tried it before. Heart pounding in her chest, Merlie exerted a large, curved, light blue wavelength towards the clown. It was extensively more than she should have been able to do. Feeling lightheaded, Merlie collapsed to her knees, dropping Kirby to the ground.

Colt smirked. "I like your style. My gang and I have been around for about 5 years. We lost one guy about five minutes ago thanks to you, and another about a year ago -- Kirby Levin. He was our best -- besides me, of course. We practically raised him. Dumb kid had no memory from before he met us. Turned out he was a weapon though. We haven't seen him since we split, but I hear he's going to the DWMA now. Lucky b.astard has people feeding him and housing him now. So without him, we just do what we've always done. I'd give you more details, but you've have to be a member to get those."

 

Tsubaki landed a bit behind her partner, smiling due to the happiness of reaching there right on time. While Black Star did his introduction she scanned the area to locate the DWMA students and their enemies, assesing the situation.

ooc - ....ah... All I got.

 

"Is that so? Well, at least we got one piece of information regarding one person from the many students at the DWMA." Angel said. She was fairly certain that that was all the guy had. It's not like he would know all the details of everyone at the DWMA so as far as she was concerned, this guy was useless. Who cares about one guy that used to be a gang member? They were here to wipe out trash. "It's not worth it. They pose no threat to us, but an order's an order and it's been a while since this sword was drawn." Angel stated as she straightened up and walked a little closer to the gang stopping a small distance in front of Sekira while keeping a good few feet away from the nearest gang member. "Oh, I've got an idea that might please you." she said turning to Sekira. "How 'bout we just kill everyone else and leave that guy? Then you can extract all the information you want out of him." Angel nodded to herself as she faced forward again. "Sound like a plan?" She really wanted this to end. She could feel her nerves coming back and her bloodlust receding. If this mission didn't end soon, she won't even have the heart nor nerves to even harm a guy. Especially since she studied the human body long ago in the past.

 

Stein looked over at the clown and sighed "this will be troublesome without a weapon" Stein muttered and calmly looked over at the clown as his hand was covered with electricity. He immediately ran forward to the clown. He aimed to attack with soul menace. If the clown continued to flee he would simply try and lead him to a dead end since they were at a fun house

 

And the second clown was down for the count. It was slammed backwards by Merlie's powerful beam into the game booths. It crashed through at least five or six of them before friction finally caught up with it and slowed it in its tracks. Nothing moved in the ruble pile. It was totally out of commission. Two down, one to go... for now.

Black☆Star scoffed and rubbed the side of his nose with his thumb before folding his arms. He closed his eyes while smirking. "A big star like me is very busy. But I found some time in my schedule to come check up on you guys." Black☆Star then opened his eyes, looking at the others while still grinning. "And it looked like you guys needed a big star to save the day." Though this wasn't entirely true, the ninja wouldn't admit it. He was supieor, he was going to surpass God some day. He didn't need the others to know that he was called somewhere else for a bit, and then was on his way back while brooding how the others left on a different mission without him. It was merely luck he stumbled on them in the first place. Suddenly, Black☆Star heard an explosion not too far away from them and glanced over his shoulder. He could see dust rising up in the moonlight from the place where Kirby and Merlie were. "What's going on over there?"

Maka also looked in that direction, seeing the dust as it spiraled upward. "I'm not sure... I hope they're not hurt." Before waiting for anyone to say anything, Maka turned and began to run towards the area as fast as she could. When she got to the area, she saw that Merlie and Kirby were in one piece. She sighed out in relief and went to them. "You two okay?"

The clown broke outside of the funhouse, finding one of the many secret exits within the place. But Stein caught up to it faster than he thought it would take the human. Soul Menace connected with him, and the clown's system fried. Its joints crumbled together before collasping on the ground in total disrepair.

"There's that possibility," Sekira said quietly agreeing with Angel. "Kirby Levin, hm? I'll keep that in mind. I guess we can skip the details... We're hungry."

Grendel had stopped momentarily when he saw that Sekira was on an important mission to get valuable information. When he saw the little talk was over, he turned his attention back to the gang. He smiled widely with insanity as his shoulders shook as he chuckled mencingly. He raised Terra up, and then went in for the other guy for more souls. This time he was going to eat them as he go to make sure that he had some power. Maybe he'd save some for Terra. He had to anyways to make her stronger. It was their rule.

OOC: Feel free to be random gang members for your own morbid amusement. XD

 

Kirby transformed back to his human shape and caught Merlie to steady her. He saw she was sweating and her eyes were closed. "Hey... Hey! Merlie!" He lightly hit his palm against her cheek, not paying a ounce of attention to Maka. "Say something!"

"Shut up," Merlie groaned. She opened her charcol eyes and met Kirby's violet ones. "You're too loud."

Kirby hugged Merlie to his chest. She was all he had, the only person who'd ever shown him any real acceptence... any real love. If he lost her now..... "I told you not to do it."

"Next time, I might listen," Merlie cracked a smile. "Now let go of me; I can't breathe."

Kirby stood, helping Merlie to her feet. She swayed and grasped his hand for support. Finally, Kirby noticed Maka with Soul and Black☆Star with Tsubaki. "Are all those freaky clowns gone now?" He asked, not giving any of them a chance to process the side of him they just saw.

"You're making a mistake," Colt said smoothly. He was nervous beyond anything he'd ever felt before. Sekira's presence and voice were like nothing he'd faced. With masked struggle, he kept his cool. "What could you possibly gain from taking the souls of my gang? Kirby Levin on the other hand, his soul is strong. Better than any of ours. I could help you find him. I know how to get into his head, know how all his thoughts work. I can easily manipulate him for you." At this point, Colt was more concerned about saving his own skin. Building a new gang after this wouldn't be that hard with the respect he had on his side of the tracks.

 

Maka stood there, just watching Kirby and Merlie for a moment. It was like seeing a reflection of her past with her and Soul. Bringing herself back into reality, Maka thought about Kirby's question. "Um... yeah. I guess so. I haven't seen the other clown though." A thought struck Maka as she remembered what happened before Black☆Star showed up. Professor Stien said he was going to go help Koji and Zoey... but where were they now? Maka heard a screech of what sounded like another clown and saw the clown as it crumbled to the ground. Professor Stien was standing there... but where were Koji and Zoey? A feeling of dread starting to crawl up inside of Maka, and she broke out into a run towards the Professor. "Professor Stien! Where's Koji and Zoey?" And then Maka stopped short when she looked at the broken robotic clown. There was still blood on the clown's arm that was shaped like a drill. It looked fresh too. Maka's eyes widened, hoping it wasn't what she thought it was.

Zoey kept silent as she continued to walk through the dark, touching the walls with Koji as her guide. This was a maze for sure... She could tell that it twisted and turned in many different ways in order for one to get lost inside. 'I wonder if they did that on purpose...' Zoey focused back to creating a map in her head, but she was about to give up on that. This place was so screwy that it would throw off people with eyesight. Eyesight... she had it, but she couldn't use it. Not like anyone else. The light was always too strong after Koji saved her. Even the dimmest candel made her cover her eyes to ease the pain.

"I'm sorry..." Koji's said as Zoey walked.

Zoey took in a breath, knowing that Koji meant. "You're my only eyes... and since even now I'm still learning how to fight without eyes..." Zoey trailed off, not wanting to continue the subject. It was always touchy, always resulted in arguments or tears. There was no time for that. "So... do you think we're almost out of here?"

Koji knew that Zoey wanted to change the subject, so he was oblidged to. "Maybe, you're doing pretty good finding your way around... We haven't run into any dead ends yet. The air is starting to feel dryer too, so I think we're getting back to the top."

Zoey smiled, feeling a bit better now. "Alright... But when we get out, we're getting that wound of yours checked out, got it?" Zoey suddenly felt the air shift in the corridors and she stopped walking. Was it her imagination? Or did she hear it? "What is it, Zoey?" Zoey stood there a moment, listening intently. "I think... I heard... children."

Sekira surpressed a smirk as she listened to Colt slowly giving in. "I can see right through your mask..." Sekira said in a low tone. "If you believe you can truely help us, then we might spare your life. However, you have to commit to a new kind of "gang"." Sekira looked over her shoulder in time to see Grendel plunder another poor human and devour his soul. She also saw that he was scooping up other souls and saving it for his partner. She then looked over at Colt. "You are mere stepping stones to our powers. Easy picking, a fast-food meal. Do you desire power? A new and forbidding kind, perhaps?"

 

"Boy oh boy, you just don't get it do you?" Angel smiled a cruel smile full of pity at Colt as she advanced calmly towards him through the gang members. Any that got in her way were dealt with swiftly with a slight flick of the arm or a few counters. "We don't CARE about any of you nor this Kirby. He's not here right now anyway, and we'll probably end up meeting him sooner or later and take care of him ourselves without your measly 'help'." By this point, there were fewer members that had enough courage to stand up to her and others were killed as they got in the way. All the souls remained where they were killed, unclaimed. "You see, we're here to finish you off. ALL of you. On the crime of TRESPASSING." Angel finished as she was now within striking distance of Colt, her sword wet with the blood of some of his comrades. However, her bloodlust was fading fast with every kill no matter how gentle and now it was just about gone. Angel hoped she got her point across. Then, he thought of who his partner may be again. This changed his excitement mood into a more calm, deep thinking mood. He was lost in thought, like a train going off track and not stopping.

 

Beyond causally went from one gane member to another, killing them absent mindily as the two spoke. She may be making a deal with their leader, but he couldn't care less.
