Megaman has the same hype as Sonic so the chances of him getting confirmed are pretty high now.

    Well I hope he is.

The game is only a little ways away so... yeah. If he were to be there he's probably already in it.

In which case, they better announce it. <_<

...Actually, I'm hoping they don't announce some characters, I need a surprise or two for the unlockables.

    ....Sonic... >_>

That's like... pretty not that exciting. I mean...Sonic WAS good back in the day.. but now he's all fail. I suspect this will be one of the few good game's he's featured in... unless Sonic Team gets better.

Megaman would be awsome. : D

Lol, didn't he say that he's not announcing unlockables?

    >_>; You sir, fail. Sonic is a major keystone in video game history and deserves your respect. He is one of the only game characters that EARNED they're spot. You really need to think of him as a past character instead of all the games trying to bring him back. I for one believe that this is one of the most epic updates that's been announced.

Lol, there's gonna be a Super Smash Bros Brawl Tournament at E for All Expo this year on october 18-22.

And omfg @ the TBD change on the release date.

I'm so pissed at that if they're going to delay it again.

I sincerely hope the delay isn't huge, and that NA will still see Brawl before the end of 2007.

Hell, I'll still suffice with a JP/NA simultaneous release, even though it would suck so much *** if us NA gamers couldn't get our hands on this game during the Christmas break.

If Sakurai wants Brawl to have a chance at Game of the Year for 2007, he better get this baby out to the public before January, because as cool as this game is--it's not going to stand a chance against the 2008 line-up.

I DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE TO GET MORE DEVELOPERS, SAKURAI! GET THIS GAME OUT BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

    Amen, brother, amen.
If you look on the site, today's update says something that intrigues me:

"There’s still a little more development to be done... I’m hoping to complete it without incident."

Could he be talking about the reason for the delay in the release date? I sure hope so, becuase it says that he's hoping for no incident, meaning maybe no delay...

My best guess is that they're being careful. The positive thinking in my mind--be it biased and whatnot--is that their goal is still December 3rd, but something unprecedent came to their attention and they can no longer 100% guarantee a Dec 3rd release and are covering their bases as quickly as possible, since this game has so much hype.

One can only wonder if Sonic's inclusion somehow caused this new uncertainty.

Lol, I can almost guarantee you it did. Sonic probably just got included maybe a week or two ago, they got some stuff done with him, and then gave an update for him. I bet they focused so much on Sonic, they didn't make any progress for the rest of the game. It's alright Sonic, I still love you.

Well, either way, I believe they'll have everything fixed up before we all know it.

...Maybe I'm being too positive? >_>

Naw, you're not too positive, I think he'll do everything in his power to get it out on time. I mean, come on, we're talking about the guy who personally updates a site in six different languages every week day, all for the fans. If we can count on any guy to make it happen, it's definately Masahiro Sakurai.

Yeah, there's two major dimensions that Sakurai has to consider given all of this.

From a passionate developer's perspective, I can only imagine that Sakurai had December 3rd marked down after perceiving what needed to be done from then on until release. Sonic's inclusion--although it's been requested by gamers for ages--might not have been something Sakurai had depended on from the start. Going out on a limb here, I somehow have the suspicion that not even Sakurai himself thought Sonic would make it into Brawl, despite gamer input. It might have been a desire/dream of his, but with games constantly having a deadline, and Sonic's inclusion just up in the air as a big question mark, Sakurai had to buckle down on a plan of action to meet deadlines, and couldn't wait for Sonic's confirmation.

Thus, Sonic's fate went into a period of latency. That being, there was always a possibility, but as it was faint and never conclusive, production was constructed around the doubt that Sonic wouldn't make the deadline. Now somewhere along the production line, be it franchise negotiations going incredibly well that day, or a stroke of luck, Sonic somehow made it to Brawl. This might've shocked Team Sora and completely threw their schedule out of flux, but since Sonic has been the most desired character from the smash community to be included, they gave it a shot. Working on Sonic behind the scenes (just to see if they could make it work) was probably a hush-hush decision by Sakurai's team, with the intention that if they could get it to work, they'd make an announcement, but if not, they'd scrap it and the public would have never known.

Now we know which of those two most likely came to be. But given that, Sonic's inclusion caused an inevitable delay in the game's production, but that was something Sakurai evidently was willing to sacrifice for SEGA's hallmark.

Now from a marketing perspective, Sakurai's taking a gamble. The Smash Bros franchise--like many other games--have done phenomenally better in NA than it did in Japan. This is a hallmark reason why so many games of late have been seeing NA shores first before JP, Smash Bros is no different. Like I mentioned in my previous post, Sakurai is taking a gamble of possibly pushing Brawl back until January, and completely missing out on the golden opportunity to have Brawl on store shelves just in time for the Christmas season, which if you ask me, is a horrible time to miss. Is this delay really worth denying NA gamers Smash until January?

The fact that Sonic has been officially announced shows that for Sakurai, there's no turning back. They've obviously chosen to gamble their secured Christmas revenues with the passionate gamer developer incentive. And that, I have no problem with as long as Sakurai can get this game to us at the latest, Japan release.

But like I said, I get the hunch that December 3rd is still at the back of the minds of Team Sora, or at the latest, December 24th, but like all gaming companies they're covering their bases. And as much as I hate it when developers do that crap, it's obvious that Sakurai is willing to go so far as to destroy Reggie's integrity in front of hundreds of people to make this game the way he truly wants it to be.
