Well, I'm still up for the source, but I was just researching around on my own and made some light distinctions from what I saw:

I'm sincerely hoping this 'inability' to wavedash and L-cancel is mostly due to the fact that the only controller configuration option I'm seeing in videos is the Wiimote, and I can only imagine how awkward it is to try to wavedash on a wiimote. L-cancel.. not so sure, but it could possibly pose some difficulty with a new controller setup as well.

Only time will tell. I hope there are some advanced players going to E for All and hope they're allowed to use GC controllers for the demo.

People have been asking Sakurai about a SSB port to the DS back in the past, but he's refused to comment--of course not disclosing the idea--since Brawl is his major concern.

But the idea has been passed, so maybe something might happen in the future.

A DS SSB would be awesome.

As for the whole animal crossing thing, i personally can't see it happening. Not all series that have trophey's and items appear. They do add series that won't work as playable characters but will as extras. That is probably what the AC characters are.

I personally hope it's out. Taking out those glitches levels out the playing field :D

And yet life goes on, and the game still manages to be exciting.

I remember him saying it'd be nice but he'd like to focus on Brawl for the time being XD

The thing strongly suggesting a character wasn't a Trophy, a Stage, and an Item (Though I mean...the series has all three of those in the game), it's that Animal Crossing has it's own specific Smash Bros icon on the website marking the Stage/Item/Assist entries, and Icons on the website are only given to series' with a playable character, otherwise it's a neutral Smash icon

Also, the Wiimote on it's side and the Classic Controller were available Soush, and the Classic Controller plays almost exactly like the Gamecube controller except it doesn't have Rumble and pressure-sensitive triggers

1up said it in a Q&A session they hosted on their forums, I'm not sure where the thread is now it may have been pushed way back, I'll try and find it again

There's [predictably] 30 or more characters this time around. The site itself gives us about...22 I think? Somewhere around 20. Which is a hefty amount. And considering how much work went into it, surely there's no move-copy-of-characters.

    And yeah...get a Wii. Now. =D
You make a great point. It does sound like it'll be an unlockable (the AC character). That'd be a sight to see. o_o

After all, we already know all the default characters. I bet we won't know an of the unlockables any time soon. (:

On the matter of controllers... what are you guys thinking will be the best? I'm placing money that the GC controller will still remain the best.

Well, 'taking out glitches' would only pertain to the wavedash. In retrospect, all that really means to me is a non-existent waveshine--which I can possibly live with. And =X, leveling out the playing field? It wouldn't hurt to try to learn those advanced techniques either, would it? Sure, some are difficult to master, but that's precisely why it enhances one's gameplay.

Anyway, no L-cancels however, would be sad. It's been around since SSB and I don't ever recall it being considered a glitch. L-cancels speed up character attacks by a whole lot, and like I said before, is almost hand-in-hand with shorthops. I don't see why they should remove that.

I'd still buy the game, no doubt, just getting rid of L-cancels and wavedashes would downplay the intricate gameplay system that the gamers themselves developed (and evolved) from the existing one, in my opinion. It'd almost feel like a regression in the game's mechanics. Sure, there's new stuff like the toadstool jump (lol, I'm sure I got that name wrong), but there was just so much application from the WD and L-cancel that will have been lost.

Ah, I wasn't aware the Classic was playable. True, the Classic has a better chance of replicating the GC controller feel, but it's still plenty different and hopefully it was still an issue on the player's end rather than the game's end. Wavedashing is pretty intricate on timing and positioning of the control stick, and given 2 mins of bouting, it might not have been enough for a player to grind down on adjusting the pattern.

I'm trying to be optimistic, of course. :P

And thanks, I'd really love to see that thread.

EDIT: Classic doesn't have pressure-sensitive triggers? How are short-hops performed then?

For serious bouts, I'm sticking to GC controller. However, I'd like to get the hang of the classic controller if I can. The one main criticism I had for the GC controller (and this correlates with wavedashing/L-cancelling) is the L/R buttons. I found the depressions too deep and clunky, and unsuitable for advanced smash gameplay that demands you to hit L/R almost every 2-3 seconds for either a wavedash/L-cancel, sheild, shield-grabbing, dodge rolling, etc.

Thus, I'm really interested in seeing if I can get a good grasp on the Classic Controller because the L/R buttons are much more appealing for this kind of demand. Depressions are smaller, and from what I can tell, the reaction delay between pressing it to the time the button is actually pressed (i.e. activated) is smaller than the GC. But this isn't surprising if you consider the L/R button on the GC, it just.. sinks down a whole lot (and like I said, feels clunky to me).

Argh, I need/want confirmation on advanced techs. 4 days until I might get a better answer.

Yeah. I agree. Those L and R buttons were a little annoying.

It didn't necessarily bother me a whole lot, though. I don't often use those advanced-techniques (or so to call), so the only reason I use the L and R buttons for is shield and do that R+left/right thing (maybe that's one of the things you were talking about). And I used Marth so yeah... lol

R+left/right = Dodge Rolling. :3 And that's a standard tech, so no worries.

Well, regardless of character L-cancel is a big part of anyone's game who knows what it is and how/why to use it. Smashboards members were rumouring that L-cancelling was automatic in Brawl, and thus why no one could make out any differences from any SH'ed aerials. If that ends up being the case, then I have no complaints, ALTHOUGH, it's hard to know if it's automatic if you can't compare it to anything else.

Wavedashing, however, is more integrated with some characters than others. I keep wishing for it because as a Fox player, the wavedash is an essential part of my game, and pretty much any advanced Fox/Falco player out there. Marth, not so much--as even pros like Ken barely use it for anything else other than faked approaches from what I can tell. Thus, if wavedash gets removed, you're looking at a complete nerf of Melee's Top Tier (i.e. Fox and Falco (if he's even in Brawl)). While that has some merit, there are more losses than gains from that action, in my opinion.

It's hard to learn those techniques :/ plus some people don't have time to spend practicing these things night and day. Taking out wave-dashing and L-cancelling for example, would leave everyone on the same page and level. If you win, it's not because you know these techniques, but rather because you're good at the game and the basic tactics of the game. At least that's my take on it.

It's like snaking in Mario Kart to me. It would take all the fun out of online battles, in my opinion. Snaking is completely legit, but I still don't think it's very fair.

What are you talking about? Snake and Sonic are unlockables. Sakurai already confirmed third-parties will be unlockables.

Also, if the trend continues, the characters on the box of the game will tell us who are defaults and who are unlockables.

    SSB64:
Boxart - Mario, Pikachu, Link, Kirby, Samus, Fox
Defaults - Mario, Pikachu, Link, Kirby, Samus, Fox, Yoshi

The same trend happened for Melee.

So if any estimation is true, the characters on the cover should all be defaults, because they would not want to spoil by revealing secret characters on the boxart.

Therefore, Pokemon Trainer, Metaknight, Pit, Peach, Mario, Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Fox, Samus, and Wario are confirmed defaults.

    PS:
    This = epic

So, the Franchise Icons on the Dojo are sorted in a very specific way.

First: Franchises the premiered in SSB64
Second: Franchises the premiered in Melee
Last: New franchises that will appear in Brawl

From there, they are then sorted alphabetically from the romanization of the Japanese name of the Franchise

Series that started in Super Smash Bros.:
01: Dairantō Smash Brothers (Super Smash Bros.)
    02: Donkī Kongu (Donkey Kong)
    03: Fokkusu (Star Fox)
    04: Hoshi no Kābii/Kābii (Kirby)
    05: Kyaputen Farukon (F-Zero)
    06: Metoroido (Metroid)
    07: MOTHER
    08: Poketto Monsutā (Pokemon)
    09: Rinku (Zelda)
    10: Sūpā Mario (Super Mario)
    11: Yosshī (Yoshi)

Series that started in Super Smash Bros. Melee:
    12: Faia Emuburemu (Fire Emblem)
    13: ???
14: Popo (Aisu Kuraima) (Ice climbers)

Series that will appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl:
15: Dōbutsu no Mori (Animal Crossing)
    16: Made in Wario (WarioWare)
    17: Metal Gear
18: Parutena no Kagami (Kid Icarus)
    19: ???
    20: Sonikku za Hejiihoggu (Sonic)

The 2 icons that are missing from this list, are #13 and #19.

    #13 is a franchise beginning with a letter between G and P.
    #19 is a franchise beginning with a letter between P and S

Every single character from Melee besides Ice Climbers and Marth/Roy and Mr. Game and Watch were attributed to a franchise that already existed in SSB64. A Fire Emblem franchise representative is back along with the Ice Climbers, meaning that #13 would have to be the icon of the only Franchise left, the Game and Watch franchise.

Now #19 is the mystery, a character/franchise that is not already represented that starts witht he letters P, Q, R, or S. The only major contenders I see from that area would be Olimar from the Pikmin series (Pikumin), and Megaman from the Megaman series, which in Japan is known as the Rokkuman series

Considering they've still got room for a 3rd Party character addition, and that Megaman was the highest requested character next to Sonic, I believe that Rokkuman is our guy.

To add to this, Capcom recently put up a cryptic message on their official website that they will decoded on October 18th at the start of E 4 All (Where Nintendo specifically made a point to attend and make SSBB playable). The message was:

    ??????? ???????? ??? ? ?????!

    Could this be?

    Megaman prepared for a Brawl!
