    Is it just me or does this game seem like an exact replica of the last game?

    It is still the same, most of it atleast I think it's to keep the flow of the game in the same direction.

    I suppose, although all of those titles--except for Mario Kart Wii--were announced publicly before the Wii was even launched.

    It was never Sakurai's intention to reinvent smash bros, you should know that. Brawl was founded on the desire to make Smash Bros a full-fledged online game. As well, considering that Sakurai originally intended Brawl to be played with the GC controllers--and the fact that he repeatedly said in his announcements that he wanted the feel of smash to be pretty much the same, that won't be the case if he changes the movesets of every single character in the roster.

    Why change the formula when it's working so well? When that happens, just keep adding onto it--which is exactly what Sakurai did when Brawl was proposed to aim for online gameplay, as well as the addition of new items and the final smash.

    The design for Link is taken from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, so his special moves have also been designed a bit differently.

    <Side Special Move: Gale Boomerang>

    [IMG]
    Gale Boomerang!

    The Gale Boomerang deals damage when thrown at an enemy, but when it comes back, it also lightly pulls the foe’s body

    <Standard Special Move: Hero’s Bow>
    [IMG]
    The Hero’s Bow! It’s fast.

    <Down Special Move: Bomb>

    [IMG]
    Are these bombs made by Barnes?

    <Up Special Move: Spin Attack>

    [IMG]

    You can charge up the spin attack
    [IMG]
    All this and the Clawshot, too!

    You can use the Clawshot to perform life-saving tether recoveries by aiming at available ledges.

    It was difficult to aim in the previous game, but this time it automatically flies to the closest ledge, so it should be pretty simple to use.

    Of course, it doesn't mean a thing if it can't reach its target

    Its like the exact same thing.

    Not really, I saw at least one major difference from Melee; your statement is unsupported other than the fact that the 'move' itself is the same. What about knockback trajectory? Perfect example is with the clones from Melee: Link's running A would knock an enemy up and above Link, young Link's running A (which was exactly the same aesthetically) knocks an enemy up and away from him. Mario's down-tilt knocks an enemy directly up, whereas Dr. Mario's down-tilt knocks an enemy up and has a horizontal trajectory of the opposite direction that Dr. Mario's facing.

    My point? The moves may be the same, but how the attack hits an enemy and the specific knockback effect it has may be different--and thus the entire feel and combo-ability of the character may change altogether. So although Link's moves appear to be the same, it's not for certain that they will function and perform the same way they did in Melee. There's already one major change that perhaps you have failed to notice: The Gale Boomerang.

    In Melee, the boomerang would knock an enemy away from Link and the distance they would fly would be directly proportional to the % of the opponent at the time. The Gale Boomerang in Brawl pulls the enemy toward Link this time, not away. As well, since this move 'pulls' an enemy, I would think the damage an enemy receives may be negligible. This completely changes Link's boomerang in the sense that now the boomerang is more capable of being followed up with another attack (SHFFL'ed FAir sounds good). I have a feeling they realized the limited nature of the boomerang in Melee and decided to change it up to make it more useful. However, the only drawback now is that the boomerang can no longer be effectively used as an edgeguard if its knockback is the same no matter how you initiate it.

    click me for a 47 second movie clip....

    "The Subspace Emissary" storyline introduces a force of formless enemies called the Subspace Army. They are ruled by their commander, the Ancient Minister.

    The Ancient Minister.

    [IMG]
    The enemy’s primary offensive strength is in creatures called the Primid. They come in many variations.

    Their objective is to cut apart the world and carry it into Subspace. They use what are called Subspace bombs to do so.

    [IMG]
    The Robotic Operating Buddies (R.O.B.s) on either side of the Subspace bomb are needed to detonate the device.

    When a Subspace bomb explodes, a section of the world gets excised and swallowed by Subspace.

    Kaboom! The stadium is engulfed!

    This is a new, never-before-seen form of aggression...but now is no time to stop and stare. Everyone, everywhere, is beginning to move against it.

    A storyline?

    I wonder how that will work out. It'll probably get boring after playing with every single character through the never-changing Adventure Mode.

    ? How did you gather that? Kirby has been in since the first game and JUST got another character (just like DK). If anything that proves they just can't figure out ways to incorporate characters in the game. Plus, most games only have one or two representatives in SSB (yes there are some exceptions).

    Did you read the post about the storyline a couple weeks ago on the site? Each characters' story will be different, and how do you know it won't change on certain things? Did they say that? No.

    Diddy Kong, eh?

    I don't know if I'll ever use him unless it's to unlock more characters. He sounds a bit, well, like the idea for him was tossed into a hat and chosen out at random.

    <Super Dragon>
    It’s tough to know what to call Yoshi—some call him a dragon, others a dinosaur. Some people don’t know WHAT he is.
    But whatever you call him, Yoshi’s true power will be seen here!
    [IMG]
    He’s gotten the oft-mentioned Smash Ball!
    [IMG]
    W-wings!
    [IMG]
    He starts spewing out a jet of fire...
    [IMG]
    But you can also press the button to spit out fireballs!
    It feels like, um...beauty and elegance...mixed with clumsiness. Certainly, no one’s ever seen Yoshi like this!
    Being able to fly around is nice, as is giving undivided attention to his attacks. Yoshi can live as he likes, for a brief period of time.

    Oh, to think it’s already over...

    Many Animal Crossing songs are pretty serene, so there are a lot of songs that aren’t very suited to a fighting game. What to do, what to do...?
    Then there’s this arrangement. As I sit and enjoy this song, it reminds me of one phrase in particular...
    "Heroes always arrive late."
