I was wondering...should sex be taken out of a lot of major things, like television, books, and the internet?

    Why I am asking is...
One time I was flicking through the TV at nine o'clock, and once I began to hit HBO and the likes, pornographic shows came on, I had to cover my eyes. Secondly, I'm tired of watching TV and all everyone cares about is how big their 'boobs' are and how 'hot' some guy is.
Third, I read mystery books, and sometimes the author will intergect sex in it...very descriptively. Also, if you're not looking where you're going, you will run into the aisle in the bookstore with sex books in it.
The internet would probably be the worst. If you type in the wrong web address, then you may (it's a 1 out of something chance, but it has happened to me -_-) enter a pornographic website.
Also, Google Image Search has no limits to pornographic pictures. Anyone could just get on a type in anything that wouldn't seem pornographic, and get pornographic pictures without any hassle.

Do you think that we should tone down on sex oriented themes in television, books, and the internet? If so, post your thoughts.

I would have to disagree with it being taken completely away. For sure sometimes it can be a little excessive and in some places should be toned down, but I think by removing it all that would happen is that sex would become almost like something that people are ashamed of, its part of life, it happens. Hiding it away completely would IMO only have a negative impact on society. For example if it goes as far as to remove from TV, Books and the internet etc etc then you may as well take another step and ban sex education.

Secondly there is no chance at all that all things like that could be taken off the internet, it is not realistic to be able to police and moniter everything posted, my advice there is to just be very careful when typing in your addresses or search criteria.

Not all Television shows are so shallow either, for sure a lot of them have some of that element in but not all, there is always an alternative ^^

It is a fact of life that sex interests people, so it is a fact of life that we will always be faced with it in some way.

So IMO tone it down in areas by all means but not remove as you originally suggested.

p.s. my appologies if I make no sense ^^

Yeah, I think they SHOULD tone it down. Sorry about what I said, I meant tone it down but I was speed typing so I mistakenly said that...
    anways...
I just feel it's getting a little excessive. You know, with this sexuall perversion and such that it can get kind of annoying. A young boy may be listening to something and they refer to the word 'orgasm' or something else sexual and he goes and looks it up, and finds it's true meaning when he really shouldn't know. Why I said in it with books is because I noticed a lot of books on sex that wasn't educational, more erotic, like this one book called 'The Secret Sex Lives of Roman Emperors' and the Kama Sutra actually. I never looked through them, I just stood there and stared because it was so crude.
And the TV show 'Weeds' has A LOT of sex in it, I mean so much it gets exceedingly annoying. I tried to skip over the parts but they kept coming up so I had to eventually just leave it alone.

    No worries ^^

I can fully undertsand where you are coming from with this, and I know what you mean about young children. I do think that in todays society children are not allowed to be just that, society makes them grow up too quick. Maybe this should be addressed as part of toning down on sex exposure.

With the books thing? It is a hard fact that sex sells, its sad as a lot of books are fantastic but are drowned by those who sell for the pure fact of making money and raising profits.

:) I do understand what you are saying though.

I hate the children thing. It'd hurt me to find pornographic pictures on their computer.

And also, though I'm not sure...I feel that to much sex exposure leads to people getting sexually obssesed, and then they want to do something to someone to fulfill their nasty fantasies.

Hmm I have heard that theorised before, I am not too sure whether I believe it though, I can see the link as to how it would seem so, but it is my opinion that people blame too much on media etc instead of taking the blame themselves.

I have no idea how they would research into this though, or if they already have I have not come across results, so for now I will bear judgment for now on whether it is linked ^^

The thing is, most of the worlds population(of adults/teenagers) like sex, are curious about it, or are addicted to it, two words describe the whole thing.

    Sex sells.

In this day in age, sex is becoming less of a taboo and more people are accepting that it's everywhere.

In some countries you can't turn a corner without seeing something provoactive.

And in my local card shop, they sell sex toys right out in the open for all the little children to see, and right next to these sex toys are little ornaments and gifts with things like "Congratulations, it's a girl!" or other baby things like that. xD How appropriate.

...one would think that the owner of the store might...I don't know, STOP them or something? >.>

Anyway, sex is a beautiful and amazing thing that, although it can be dirty, is one of the greatest experienes of life. To include it in TV and books and such are forms of art. Pornography can be taken as art as well...truthfully it's photography and although it meant for darker purposes, most GOOD porn is made by someone that knows their way around a camera. There can be times when sex is inappropriatte, but others times it's just the way you take it. Really it doesn't bother me at all, and around the world others are looking at it the way I do. "It's a part of life, we should just accept it.".

And face it...with things like TV and books, sex is entertaining, no? More Sex = More Sales.

I'd rather they'd take sex off of everything rather than just tone it down a bit.

I think one of the reasons why there's so many pregnant teens anymore is because of all the sexual crap people post on the internet anymore. It's not just because boys can't keep their horses in their pants.

Sex, as has been said several times, is a part of life. For all the Christians sex is a gift given by God, for everyone else it's the ultimate expression of love or just really enjoyable.

I have to agree also that it can be very excessive in some cases, but not all by any stretch of the imagination. In books sex scenes happen because two of the characters love each other and so would probably happen in real life so should be included. And to be cruder, sex sells (again has already been mentioned). The internet is uncontrollable so not much hope of toning it down.

Sex isn't something to be afraid of and to hide away and talk about in whispers. If it isn't talked about or addressed things get a lot worse because people have nowhere to turn.

Also, when things are toned down/banned to that extent they are driven underground, like when alcohol was prohibited black markets sprung up all over the country meaning the government had no control.

i agree, but its kind of funny....your sig could easily be taken in a way that would seem contradictory to your point....when in doubt, get the hell out....VERY easily taken the wrong way....

Why? As Cin said, sometimes it's 'dirty', but that's not all cases. Well, assuming you've never experienced sexual urges or anything of the like, I suppose you can only go with the cliche 'you'll understand when you're older' statement...It's a natural part of life. I don't see why you should be so avoidant of it.

I am sorry but I disagree strongly here, "sexual crap" as you put it posted on the internet cannot be blamed for the number of pregnant teens, rather IMO it is the sub-standard levels of sex eduaction in schools, for example when my younger sister was taught sex ed the teacher told the class that condoms all carry diseases and that it is dirty to use one O_o ******s like that are a force behind teenage pregnancies. But this is not the issue here ^^

    Back on topic:

I still say that removing it completely would be the wrong thing to do, as several other people have said, it is part of who and what we are, unfortunately it is something you will have to learn to put up with.

To be completely honest I think Cin put it perfectly, nothing more really needs to be said.

Also (though I can't believe I am saying this) I agree with Alice's post, it is something natural, and a part of life.

As many people have said, sex is a part of life. You can like it, hate it, dislike it, not want it, be obsessed with getting it, whatever, but everyone has their opinions on it once introduced to it.

I agree that sex is 'overdone' by quite a few television shows, movies and books, but then I also realize that in the end those with 'overdone' sex scenes are themed about sex in the first place. I do not watch much television, but I choose to watch what shows I do by the 'themes' or 'subject' matter of the show. If I don't want to watch a show with 'sex' in it, I don't. Books, except for lame romance novels and some horror novels, usually aren't distasteful with sex like that. Usually the sex scenes fit very well with the story and they are not meant to be there just because 'sex sells'. The author had painted a scene that fit to him or her and it seems more likely they are included to show that aspect of the characters and the experience. I've seen great movies and read books that had sex scenes in them and could see why they were there and it made sense. Then there are 'sex themed' movies and books that well, you know ahead of time what you are getting.

I think part of the problem really with people being 'obsessed' with sex is not because it's merely out there to obtain, but because it is considered 'bad' by too many people. It's like that semi-forbidden thing to look at or people frown at you displeased. There's a lure to it. Other people want to look up things simply because real people won't tell them what they think they learn off porno or sex books etc. Those who become overly obsessed have issues, but most people are at least sexually curious as they grow up and want answers to things they can't find anywhere else. I disagree from sex being hidden from all people, but toned down, I can see the issue. However, I think toning it down really comes to the individual's responsibility and you DO have a choice on what you will read, watch etc. Now and then you might stumble on a bad website, but eh, you can delete that too. If you really don't want to see sex, put up a parental block on yourself to ban you from seeing them. It is meant to block kids, sure, but if you really hate seeing it online, do it to yourself so you can use the internet how you want to without the 'sex crap'. =:)

I agree strongly. I know that this comedian was talking about "You can type anything into a search engine and it will come up with Pornography." Quote by Lee Evans. I agree with him, it has happened to me alot. I know that there is a show called Grownups and in the advert it says that there are alot of rude stuff and it shows you! GROSS! Especially for younger veiwers.

I watch this program thats about two brothers and one of them is devorced with a kid while the other goes around dating women who are complete strangers but all the stuff in that is censored- no matter how annoying it can be it's good if other little kids are watching.

I think..... we should just leave it alone. i mean, sure, sex shops on display for kids....not the best idea. but its a natural thing. as for books..... ive read some that wouldn't be as strong without the sex in it. it sybolises love.... yeah.
also, (exept in cases of insemination) gues who had sex? yep, your parents. if itn wasnt for sex, you would never have existed. i think that in most cases, the situation is under control.

Yep, that's true. Most of this stuff is under control as you said, but some of it is waaaay to much in the open or to easy to bump into by accident. I mean, you could accidentally press an add on the internet page your on and run into something inappropriate. <_< I guess it's the accidents.
