| The Awakened |

Zeke walked through the ruined streets cleaning off the blood on his jacket. Looting was hard. First you had to subdue them and kill them, then pick their pockets and what you get is what you get. It's unfortunate how no one had food on them anymore. He's killed almost everyone in this city. He's going to have to migrate to some other city. This was the only way he knew how to live. Foraging is too hard. He could use his powers to reanimate the corpses of his victims but it would be hard to make them obey him. He continued walking until he saw a figure in the distance. It appeared to be a female human. He probably wouldn't kill her. He made an exception to killing women and children. He ran a little bit and ducked behind a crumbled wall and looked at the girl. She had brown hair and wore some sort of pink shirt. She didn't seem to pose a threat but just incase, he looked over to his left and saw a dead body. It was one of his. He remembered the man was weak. His eyes flared a bright green and the corpse began to pick itself up. Its rotting skin became suddenly more apparent. Its eyes glowed the same green his eyes did. Suddenly without warning, a helicopter roared overhead. He psychically commanded the zombie to go back to its ditch. It did so. The helicopter flew away and he began to walk toward the girl. "Hey!" He shouted. He waved to his location. He commanded the zombie to take up a position where if anything happened it could subdue the girl. He waited for a reply.

OOC: The girl is Ruki. I need to make contact with someone. I don't wanna be bored.

 

Rebecca awoke three hours later, feeling like she slept for a whole night. She quickly put the blanket, small pillow, and stuffed cat back into her backpack so she wouldn't forget them when she left the store she was in. She decided to look around the store to see if there was anything that she would need. Like food, water, first aid kit, etc. She looked around and found nothing. "I bet someone already came here for the same things and that's why the store has nothing," she said to herself. "I wonder if there's an 'employee's only' place here that might have something..." Sure enough, there was. She found a small first aid kit that would fit in a small compartment of her backpack and enough food and water to last her about two or three days. She put the stuff she found into her backpack and decided to look for other people so she wouldn't be alone.

After walking for a few minutes, she noticed a guy with a zombie near him. She wondered if the guy knew about the zombie. Rebecca took a risk and walked up to the guy. "Umm..." she started. "I was wondering if you knew that there's a zombie near you. I don't know what the zombie wants or why it's there but I thought that you needed to know..." She was nervous talking to him because she couldn't remember if she ever talked to a guy that wasn't her dad or something. She stood there patiently, waiting for him to reply...

 

Zeke heard a noise behind him. He was already on edge. Without looking he whipped out his switchblade with unbelievable speed. He held it so that is was a few inches from the person's neck. "Tell me who you are now. Otherwise I'm going to kill you, steal everything you have, and then turn you into my friend here." A little harsh, even for him. But he couldn't afford to take chances. A person was behind him. They could have a knife. They could have a gun. They could kill him in any way possible. It's unfortunate that humans didn't have eyes in the back of their heads. The zombie turned around and moaned. Zeke turned his head and it was a girl. He stood up and hit the zombie in the head. It dropped dead. Again. With the knife still pointed at her throat he asked again. "Seriously, who are you?"

 

Rebecca was shocked that the guy was going to kill her. She was even more shocked that he didn't even seem fazed by the zombie. "Umm... My name is Rebecca Holtz," she said. "And can I ask what your name is and why you're trying to kill me?" She was scared because she wasn't expecting to die before she found out why the city is the way it is. "I hope I don't die..." she thought awaiting the guy to answer...

 

"That's better. Don't worry I'm not gonna kill you. You're a girl. I don't kill women and children. Name's Zeke Necroshade. So what do you want with me? Food? If it's food then no." He kicked the zombie and it flew across the street.

 

"Oh, I don't want anything really," Rebecca said. "I was just wondering why you had that zombie near you and to know who you are." She thought for a second if she should ask Zeke about the water coming from her hands and the wind that appears suddenly and goes away just as fast as it came. "I was also wondering..." she started. "There's these weird things happening to me lately. Like, I woke up in the middle of a street not remembering anything from before I woke up. And whenever I'm thirsty, water starts coming out of my hands. And sometimes, wind suddenly appears and then it goes away as fast as it had came. Does anything like that happen to you?" She hoped that he would think that she was crazy...

 

"Quick, this way!"

The sound of several combat boots stamping across the ground rang in Daniel's ears as the soldiers ran by him. With his back against the alley wall, he became stiff as the soldiers ran past him, the commanding officer leading the squad. He had never in his life held his breath as tight as it was now. Looks like they didn't see m-

"Hey! Freeze!" Yelled the soldier as he stopped to look in the alley. The soldier raised his gun to point it at the boy in red who was hiding in the alley, but before he could pull the trigger, the boy's foot collided with his chest. The soldier didn't know what happened, but he was flying backwards.

"Damn it!" Daniel yelled as he ran out of the alley and in the opposite direction of the soldiers...except they also changed direction and ran after him. Daniel reached back and pulled the hood of his red jacket over his red hat as he ran through the streets. The sound of gunfire behind him caused him to abruptly turn into a different street. The Awakened dashed forward, hoping to whatever god was there that none of the bullets reached him.

Scott was lying on his stomach. He was on the edge of a tall building, using its roof to snipe any Awakened he could find. Of course, he would only aim at their legs to slow them down and then call in their location, but...if he deemed any a threat, his crosshairs rested on their head. Unlike the others in the Military, Scott was clad in armor. It was nothing like the armor of the Horsemen, it was just added protection since he mostly stayed still during snipings. His armor was green, decorated with camouflage-like designs. Bright orange hair hung from beneath his helmet. "Just a little more to the right..." he whispered to himself as he stretched out his arm before him. Outfitted to the arm was a large rifle. The rifle was modified not only to work as an assault rifle, but also a sniper's rifle. His left hand found its way under the rifle, holding it still. A small lens quickly shot out from the right side of his helmet, locking itself in front of his eye. His dark red eyes started to spin as the pupil shrunk. The cybernetic enhancements to his eyes made his target appear as if she was merely yards in front of him, instead of in a different building. The crosshair of his gun locked itself to her thigh, but the shot wasn't clear enough. If only she would move just one more inch towards him. And just like that, she did. "Fall," he commanded as he pulled the trigger. The bullet shot out of the rifle, across the gap between the buildings, through the window, and headed towards Crystal's left thigh.

A tall man walked through the streets, a cigarette burning in his mouth. His combat boots hit the ground hard with each step, alerting anyone who was hiding nearby of his presence. His throat burned as he inhaled deeply, before exhaling smoke through his nostrils. Shaggy brown hair, ears, and the man's face were all that were uncovered due to the man's armored uniform. Burning red eyes scanned the area around him. Fingers, clad in a leather gloves, reached up to pop the collar on his trench coat, before moving to the cigarette in his mouth. Kyle Rayner flicked the cigarette away as he found what he was looking for. "Well, well, if it ain't the lovely Miss Danielle? My favorite comrade," Kyle said in a sultry voice as he approached his teammate. "The Horseman of Ice, but more importantly," he approached her as a smile broke through his lips, "The Horseman of Famine, because darlin', I'm starvin' for ya."

 

"Oh those things? Those are your powers. You'll get used to them. I can raise the dead and for some reason have increased speed. I have no idea why, nor so I care. The only goal I have is to survive." He thought a little bit. He reached in his pocket and pulled out the picture of a girl that he found when he first lost his memories. He compared the the picture with Rebecca. No match. He stuffed it back in his pocket. He put away his switch blade. He dug out a chocolate bar from his pocket and started to eat it. It was a lucky find in this world.

 

"So that means that I might not even need to get water if I'm thirsty. I can just make the water come out of my hands and drink it!" Rebecca said in amazement. "I wonder what else I can do with my water power..." She started to think about all the things she could do with her water and wind powers when all of a sudden Zeke put a picture near her face and compared the picture with herself. "Who's picture is that of?" she asked, curiously. "I have a picture of me and my parents and someone wrote who was in it and how my parents died. Here, let me show you..." She took her backpack off her back and opened the main compartment. She dug around for her notebook where she kept her family photo. She found the notebook and took out the picture. "See?" she showed him the back of the picture with the mysterious writing on the back. "I'm really want to know who wrote this stuff. Do you recognize the handwriting?" She hoped that he would wonder about the handwriting with her...

 

Risiel suddenly froze, hearing a male's voice call out towards her. Her breathing became shallow as she tried forcing her legs to run. She wasn't sure who the person was, but she didn't think anyone was around. Just...turn around. The young girl let out a short breath, slowly turning to see a boy with another girl. Her body suddenly relaxed as she cocked her head, eying the both beings that stood not too far away from her. They don't seem like they're part of the the Military. Risiel turned her attention away from the two, chewing anxiously on her bottom lip as she fought against her mind whether to approach the two of them or to just walk away. Finally making her decision, the young girl took a step forward as her lips parted. "Um...e-excuse me?"

 

Danielle stopped in her tracks and looked over to her follow comrade. He smelt of smoke, as he always did, and was as cocky as ever. She looked slightly up at him through narrowed eyes. She opened her mouth to make a rude comment but cut off. Instead she looked ahead of her and smiled. "Then I guess you're gonna starve to death." Her head perked up slightly at the sound of gun fire and looked in the direction from which it came from. "Hmm..." If the others were already chasing someone, then she was probably unneeded in the area. Plus there could be others near by, which the pleasure of finding and capturing will be all her's. After decieding not to go towards the gunshots she looked back towards Kyle. "I do perfer to work alone, so if you would, go away."


Horsemen...? Karen listened silently as she hid behind the counter. Not only could she hear them, she could also hear near by gunshots. So she quickly looked around, glad to see she was in a location which no one could shoot her through a window or a hole in the wall. She was out of sight. But she feared being heard. She slowed her breathe to the point where she only actually breathed when she had to and doing so as quiet as possible. Well... At least this means I am not the only one left.

 

Jumping from rooftop to rooftop was the horseman named Blade. Despite the black armor he wore over his body and the broadsword he kept on his back this wasn't able to slow him down from fulfiling his mission. His mission was clear nd simple "to find the Awakened and emlimitate them". Never questioning his orders, the emotionless solider soon stopped his search the moment he saw a group of three below the building he stood on. "Target sighted" Blade said quietly as he looked down at the group with the one eye that was not covered by his silver hair. As the wind blew past him, his cape rustled from the wind and electricity suddenly began to spark around his right hand

 

"That picture? Nothing." She showed him the picture with writing on it. "I can't read cursive." He heard a voice behind him. It had to be the girl from before. He quietly took out his switchblade and turned around. He walked towards her. "Hey. Who are you? I saw you over there staring at a helicopter." He looked at her. There wouldn't be any worth or pleasure in killing a girl this scared. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you and those helicopters won't either." He put away the switchblade and held out his hand. "I'm Zeke."

 

Emilia started to open the door of the garage, letting the reverberating sound of a low-flying chopper fill the room. She stopped it at her waist-height, and bent down to look outside. Her blue eyes scanned the darkening sky and she could see the helicopter's searchlight shining down onto a street a few blocks over. Crap. It seemed like they were getting closer and closer each time day. She had been putting off moving location, perhaps because of the familiarity of the garage. But she knew she couldn't stay here for much longer. She knew that they were hunting people like her; people with these strange powers. But she wasn't sure how many there were out there, or how many had been caught. And once caught, when happened to them?

Her train of thought broke as the searchlight began angling itself in a different direction -- closer to her building. She very slowly and silently closed the large metal door. She had to leave. Soon.
Now.

 

Crystal heard the gun shot and reacted but not quite fast enough. The bullet sped through the buildings and towards her, before she could move and tore through her jeans and straight through skin on her thigh. However, instead of tearing through all her muscle and bone, it just carried on through her leg like nothing was there. Crystal dived away and out of shot of where the bullet had come from, as fast as she could. Her face cringed in pain as she looked down at her leg, it had hit her and it hurt, blood flowing from it. Although, it was only a skin wound, it had caused no damage past that. She'd manage to do it again, she'd magaged to phase straight through the bullet without it touching her, except she'd reacted too slow.

Crystal looked around in shock as she heard Aiden, and moved out of sight but where she could see him, unsure as to if it was someone else after her. They didn't sound like they wanted to get her, but she wanted to be careful. Even if they were on her side, they couldn't stay here. The military knew where she was and would be after her. She, and that boy if he was on her side needed to escape. Looking at the boy and deciding he didn't look like military or a horseman, she made a choice, knowing it could be fatal. "Over here" She whispered, "We need to get out of here, military will be here any moment"

Emilia quickly walked over to the cluttered table at the side of the room. She grabbed her water canteen, shuffled over to the rusted sink beside the table, and filled the canteen. She wasn't sure how or why the faucet still had access to water, but hey: it was water. Probably not pristine, but still life-saving. Once the canteen was filled to the brim, she screwed the cap back on tight and slung the attached strap over her shoulder. She suddenly turned around and stopped, and stared at the garage that had been her home since she had her powers. It was the only thing that really felt familiar to her. And she was leaving.

Screw that, she thought, shaking her head as the sound of the chopper's blades echoes through her ears once more. It was getting closer. She lifted opened the large metal door once more -- slowly, subtly, silently -- stepped out into the alleyway, and lowered the door shut. She looked up at the sky to see the helicopter's searchlight surveying the street only a block and a bit over. She walked to the mouth of the alley, slunked against the crumbling brick wall, trying to stay in the shadows.

 

Once the armored figure stepped in front of him and yelled his command, the soldiers behind Daniel stopped firing. With that, Daniel stopped running, caught between soldiers and someone in black armor. I'm guessing he has some authority here...he got them to stop. With his hood still up, Daniel raised his fists and took a fighting stance. "Yo, Robocop!" He called out to the man in armor. "If it's Halloween, don't suppose you'll let me go so I can go trick or treating?" He said, half-jokingly. Truth was, Daniel was getting bad feeling from this guy.

Scott raised his face away from his scope, surprised. "Huh..wasn't expecting that one..." he told himself as he saw the bullet pass through the girl. As she moved out of sight, he realized he would need to enter the building if he wanted another shot. Zooming out so his vision was normal, he stood up and started to run along the rooftop before jumping to the next one.


"Tsk, tsk," Kyle clicked his tongue as he shook his head. "Ya breakin' my heart, darlin'," he told Danielle as he put hand in his pocket and pulled out a carton of cigarettes. "I'll win ya over one of these days. I'm irresistable, so they say, ya know?" He turned away from her and headed in the direction of the gunshots as he pulled out a cigarette from the carton, along with a lighter. He placed the cigarette in his mouth as he walked and lit. Taking a single deep breath, he exhaled, smoke burning his nostrils as the first hit gave him a quick headrush. "Be safe now, ya hear? Don't want anythin' happenin' to that pretty lil body of yours!" He yelled back at Danielle, before putting the cigarette carton back in the pocket of his trenchcoat. Shortly after, his entire figure started to darken as if a shadow was standing over him, but the shadow only appeared on his body. He kept walking, unaware of the shadow but his body kept darkening until it was pitch black and no details could be made out. Suddenly, the shadow seemed to evaporate. Kyle's boots' tunk tunk tunk turned into metallic clang clang clang as his Horsemen armor appeared in place of the shadow, a large double-sided axe hanging from the back. Smoke was floating from the helmet. "It's about to get fun, I can tell," he grinned beneath his helmet.
