The Chronicles of Narnia: The Middle

Prince Caspian looked out south quietly before turning back to look over at their group, he expected to see smiles and nods, but rather saw quite a few blank faces with shaking heads. A look of confusion and a tilt of his head made him think what could possibly be wrong with his plan, he believed he had been as generous and humble as he possibly could.

 

"Let's go with him," Luke replied immediately. "No offense, little guy," he added to Trufflehunter. "But I trust that prince over a... talking badger."

 

Elizabeth looked from Luke to the others. "Why doesn't Trufflehunter come too?" she suggested, confused on the controversy.

 

Alexandria folded her arms in thought. "I don't think Truffelhunter will want to be with the Telmarines."

 

"Alex is right," William agreed. "I think we should stay with Trufflehunter. He seems to know a lot about Narnia."

 

Prince Caspian was really starting to grow confused, his understanding was they needed help deciding where they were and maybe how they got here, however the way they seemed to be acting now it was almost as if there was a hint they didn't seem to have a good image of him. He sighed and let his head hang in thought for a few minutes, before his eyes lifted and fell on Alexandria, he slightly scrunched his brow noticing she seemed to be the one who had started the trend.

 

Elizabeth frowned and bite her pinky nail thoughfully. "But so does Caspian." she pointed out. "Let's be honest, we don't know anything about either of them. But Caspian said that his professer might be able to help us, and we do need help as well as giving us an actual place to go. Whereas Trufflehunter, no offense meant, hasn't really given us any idea of where we're going or who we're going to meet."

 

"Al," William placed a hand on his twin's shoulder, calling her by his rare, affectionate name for her. "I know this is weird, but we do have to think about this logically. If we decide to go with Caspian, the Telmarine, than we might be able to get home. If we decide to go with Trufflehunter, a talking badger, than we might get caught up in something too big for us to handle."

 

Alexandria ruffled her short, black hair in confusion. "This is hard! I want to learn more about the Narnians and what the Telmarines have done to them. And I think the only way to do that is to stay with Trufflehunter." She looked at Caspian, meeting his eyes. There seemed to be so much that she could find out if she stayed with him, and that's what she wanted. But at the same time, she felt that it was wrong to leave their first guide.

 

"I agree with Liz and Will," Luke nodded, giving Elizabeth a small wink. "Let's go see Alex's boyfriend and go with him."

 

Alexandria's eyes widened. "Luke, you little blighter!"

 

"Alex!" William was shocked at his twin's choice of vocabulary.

 

Prince Caspian scratched his head lightly, he stared softly back into Alexandria's eyes, almost asking her if something was wrong. Trying to get across the message he would provide as much help as he could to her and her group, however if they wished to stay with this Trufflehunter character that would be fine too.

 

Elizabeth gave Luke a quizzical look until Alex burst out at him. "Come on Alex, even you have to admit it makes more sense to go with Caspian." she said, starting to feel uncomfortable. Being on opposite sides of a debate from Alex, esspically about something as important as this, made her uncomfortable.

 

"Your eyes betray you pretty easily," Luke commented to Alex, a little jealous. "It's obvious you like him."

 

"I'll be right back," Alexandria told the group, biting back a reply to Luke's comment, before running back into the thick trees.

"Well?" Trufflehunter asked.

"I'm sorry," Alexandria got on her knees. "I'm going to go with them.... Can you send someone to meet me later? At nightfall. I'll wait outside of... Anvard, and if I don't like it there, I can come back with you, right?"

"Of course," Trufflehunter agreed. "I'll send Glenstorm. He's a centaur. You won't be able to miss him."

Alexandria couldn't help herself, she hugged Trufflehunter, biting her lip to keep from crying. She didn't know why she felt so sad to be leaving Trufflehunter, she just did.

Trufflehunter patted Alex's back. "It's okay. We'll see each other again."

Alexandria stood up, wiping her eyes. "Okay. Nightfall. Glenstorm, right?"

"That's right," Trufflehunter said encouragingly.

Alexandria gave Trufflehunter a smile and then jogged back to the others. "Alright... I'm going with you."

 

William smiled. "Glad to hear it."

 

Elizabeth watched her friend carefully. She could read something in her face that she didn't quite understand and it made her feel even more uneasy. "That's great." she said, covering up her feelings with a smile.

 

Prince Caspian began to slowly walk over noticing that Alexandria had disappeared off somewhere, "excuse me...I just wanted to let you all know it was merely a request not a command...besides I am not a king yet..." he laughed softly trying to lighten the mood. "It is your choice my friends..." he said noticing Alexandria come back and gently stared at her.

 

Alexandria ducked her head when Caspian looked at her. "Liz, I'll tell you about it later."

Trufflehunter watched the five for a moment longer and then hurried off deeper into the forest to get word to Glenstorm.
