The Chronicles of Narnia: The Middle

"Alright, Alex, spill it." William looked over. "What did you and Trufflehunter talk about?"

 

"C'mon, Will," Alexandria sighed. "All I did was say good-bye to him."

 

"He's a badger, Alex. It's completely unscientific for him to be talking." William pressed.

 

"What do you think of him, Alex?" Luke asked as soon as Caspian was out of earshot.

 

"So?" Alexandria put her shoe back on. "You're the scientific one. I'm the unscientific one."

 

"Alex?" Luke asked again, throwing a small peice of firewood at her.

 

"Oh, sorry, Luke," Alexandria picked up the piece of firewood and turned it over and over in her fingers. She'd been too caught up in her mock argument with her brother to notice that Luke had asked her a question. "Well... I can't say that he's a bad guy because he says that it's not his fault that the Narnians are losing their homes, but I can't really think of him as a good guy either. So... I guess I'm not sure what I think of him yet."

 

William supressed a laugh, knowing that that was not what Luke was asking. He looked over at his friend and shrugged.

 

Luke frowned slightly, nodding a little at Will and keeping his eyes on Alex. "You'll tell me more in time, then," he said.

 

Elizabeth also took off her shoes, still listening to the others as she had been during the first part of their journey. She found herself staring blankly at the ground as she mulled over what they'd learned so far. She wanted to get more opinions from the 'Narnians' so she could figure out who she believed was the right side of the problem but had to be contented with just two people for the moment.

 

Prince Caspian quietly and slowly collected driftwood for a fire, he sighed softly stopping to take a glance out at the cool waters gently washing over the shore. He set the driftwood aside beside him and sat down on the sand covered plain just staring out. "I knew never so much could happen in just one day..." he said with his usual soft tone.

 

Elizabeth stood up again and stretched her back until it popped. She was tried from all the walking but still wanted to look around, so as everyone talked, she drifted away from to explore alittle. "I wonder what our parents are doing now..." she whispered to herself, "I hope they're not too worried."

 

Prince Caspian gently rested his head on his crossed arms over his knees, letting out a soft sigh. He picked up a small stone and gently gave it a toss watching it swerve and scatter across the soothing waves. He closed his eyes and let the gentle breeze that was apparent along the night coastline touch his face.

 

Elizabeth eventually reached the waters edge and saw Caspian sitting by himself a little ways down from her. She decided to let him be and wandered down the edge of the water, stepping into he water every so often since, to her surprise, it wasn't freezing cold.

 

Prince Caspian acted like he hadn't heard her moving along the coast, however his next words proved otherwise, "actually the opposite..if you wouldn't mind..." he said softly letting it trail to her ears hopefully. He sighed tossing another rock into the waters, his thoughts over the day that had taken place.

 

"Hm?" Elizabeth had been watching the water wash over her feet when he'd spoken and she looked up, alittle startled. "I'm sorry, did you want to be alone?" she asked, unsure of what he'd meant.

 

Prince Caspian laughed softly and turned his head to face her, "I was saying actually the opposite miss Elizabeth..." he said giving her a smile, "I would love your company here with me..." He gently pats the sand next to him, "we can enjoy the beauty of the night and sea together..."

 

Elizabeth smiled and walked over to him. She sat down next to him and looked out at the water. "Thanks, I didn't want to impose." she sighed and picked a stone to pass from hand to hand.

 

Prince Caspian smiled and nodded, "of course..." he said as he turned back to the water as well. He however noticed that she had picked up a stone and began to toss it between her hands, he tenderly reached out and took her hand in his, "would you like to see something?" he said softly.

 

Elizabeth was startled by his touch and almost jerked her hand away. "Okay." she answered quickly, when curiousity took over and to cover up her sharp movement. "Can you do something with the stone?" she guessed.
