The Chronicles of Narnia: The Middle

"I'm a very complicated person," Alexandria said proudly. "Just ask Will; he's got plenty of stories."

 

Prince Caspian sighed and shook his head, "no thanks...what I had been looking for at least was a friend...I'll see you back at the camp..." he said softly and started to head back to camp. He sat down leaning against a tree, seeing that the fire had gone down some, but it was rather late and he was tired from their long trek.

 

Alexandria flopped down on the sand, letting the water brush her fingertips. "I don't think he's the least bit interested in any of us," She muttered to the night sky. "Maybe Luke is right... We should just go home."

 

Elizabeth felt her face warm slightly at how close Luke was but nodded. "I think so too. It's amazing how different it is here but somehow, the same circumstances." a shadow seemed to pass over her face at her own words. "War seems to be everywhere." she muttered, dryly.

 

Prince Caspian sat quietly against the tree, lost halfway in thought halfway in sleep, he took off his cloak, "if anyone needs it for a blanket...they may use it..." he said setting it aside. He laid down on his side, closing his eyes, just resting for the moment.

 

Alexandria picked up a rock and roughly threw it into the water. She let anger simmer down and started to think about all of the possible paths of the future. She could stay here or she could go home. If she stayed, she could stay with the Narnians. Then again, if she stayed, she could stay with the Telmarines. If she went home, she's have to settle with the same routine every day. Staying in Narnia sounded like the most fun. But Narnia, as far as she could tell, was on the brink of war. If she stayed in Narnia, she might get caught up in the war; the very thing that she and her friends had escaped by coming to Narnia.
"I really do want to stay," Alexandria murmured to the lapping water. "It's amazing here." Her fingers drifted in the sand, making squiggles and circles.

 

Prince Caspian quietly laid next to the tree in thought, wondering why he seemed to be viewed so differently from them when they clearly resembled each other. He just couldn't grasp why it seemed like half of their little group seemed to be displeased with him while the other half was accepting. However he did notice they all seemed to trust him, which was a good sign that friendship could move in next.

 

Alexandria looked over her shoulder to see her twin looking back at her, concerned. She knew the answer to some of her uneasiness: being away from William. Even if it was a short distance, she didn't like being away from William, especially during school. Alexandria pushed sand over her doodles and hurried back to sit next to William.

 

Prince Caspian turned over on his back, observing that Alexandria had finally chosen to return to the camp. It was rather dark now and the only light that could be seen was the glow of the fire, which would require more wood here in a little bit. He sighed leaned against the tree, twiddling his thumbs in thought of what tomorrow would bring.

 

Alexandria and William sat back-to-back, and before long, Alexandria could tell that her twin had fallen asleep. She sighed; William could fall asleep anywhere under any circumstances. She wished she could do that.

 

Prince Caspian sighed and stood up brushing himself off, "seems the fire could do with some more firewood...one last batch should do it...then we should all try to get some sleep..." he said walking off slowly into the forest. The pile of driftwood had been a little too damp so he figured the forest would hold suitable pieces that were a little drier.

 

Alexandria watched Caspian go. She wondered if there were any Narnians that lived close to the castle that they were headed to, or if it was too dangerous. And then another thought came to her mind: Would Glenstorm being getting himself in danger by meeting her near the castle? She didn't want to put anyone in danger just because she didn't like going somewhere full of people that she didn't know. Not to mention that these people where the ones that Trufflehunter told her were frightening warriors. Closing her eyes, she relaxed against her twin and tried to put all the busy thoughts out of her tired mind.

 

Prince Caspian scoured the forest floor for pieces of wood that would suffice for a fire that could last at least until morning. Slowly collecting piece by piece in his arms, he felt the night wind and swishing of it passing through the trees above him. He closed his eyes just listening to the gentle sounds, something he was no where used to living in Anvard.

 

Elizabeth watched the twins fall asleep and sighed. She didn't want to sleep but at the same time felt tired. To keep busy and feel as if she'd be going to sleep, she started brushing aside rocks and twigs from her spot in front of the fire.

 

Prince Caspian collected enough wood he figured would suffice and started to head back to the camp. He let out a soft yawn and wiped his eyes as best he could realizing sleep was starting to slowly take him over as well. He made it back to the camp setting the wood down beside the fire, looking up he noticed Elizabeth seemed to be awake as well. "Can't sleep either?" he asked softly.

 

Elizabeth looked up and smiled. "Yeah, I know I should but... I don't know." she shrugged, picking up a stick to keep the fire going as he added wood. She watched the fire leap around, slightly distracted.

 

Prince Caspian nodded softly, "I should as well...we all have to be able to have enough energy to finish the trek tomorrow morning..." he said finishing adding wood and setting the rest aside. He walked over noticing there was room next to her, "would you mind if I sat down here?"

 

Elizabeth looked away from the fire. "Sure, go ahead." she replied, easily. Her gaze traveled around to the others who had drifted to sleep. "So we'll be at your home tomorrow?" she asked, still watching everyone else.

 

"If we keep up the pace we were trekking at today...I could say maybe even earlier than the afternoon..." Prince Caspian said quietly watching the campfire glow and flicker about in the darkness of the night. He gently sighed, "I was wondering...you seem to be like Alexandria's best friend...could I talk to you about her?"

 

Elizabeth looked at Alex, asleep next to her brother, and then at Prince Caspian. "Alright." she agreed. "I'm just going to throw a wild guess out that she's being alittle confusing?" she guessed, knowing Alex could do that to people.
