The Chronicles of Narnia: The Middle

Elizabeth stood up, now worried about Alex. She knelt down next to her friend and took hold of her arms, trying to help Will. "Alex, let go. Wake up." she promted, her voice turning low and soothing, "You're dreaming."

 

Alexandria's eyes snapped open and she sat up quickly. "Will," She started, seeing her twin first. "Will, I had this dream. We were running from the bombers and then we were in a beautiful new place and we met a badger named Trufflehunter, and he could talk! And then... then...." Alexandria's fast trail of words slowed to an end as she looked around. Seeing the faces of her concerned friends, she folded her arms stubbornly, a bright blush of embarrassement on her cheeks. "What are you all standing around for?"

 

William smiled, knowing that Alexandria was just fine. "You were talking in your sleep again, that's all."

 

Elizabeth let go of Alex, smiling her relief to see she was alright. "Um, Alex, that all happened." she pointed out, gesturing to the forest around them. "But you looked like you were having a nightmare, are you okay?"

 

"Of course I'm okay," Alexandria replied, her stubbornness not giving way. "Shouldn't you all be sleeping?"

 

"Most of us were," William began with a light chuckle. "But you're loud when you sleep-talk."

 

Elizabeth sighed, sitting back down near the fire. "You even fell over and pulled Will down with you." she hid her laughter so as not to make Alex more upset.

 

Alexandria tried to hide her embarrassement. "I think you're lying."

 

William rubbed his head. "She's not lying."

 

"About which part?" Elizabeth asked, her calm smile remaining the same as she looked honestly at Alex. "Seriously Alex..."

 

"Oh, don't worry about it," Luke laughed, waving an arm at Alex. "It was cute."

 

Alexandria sighed and hung her head in defeat. "What did I say?"

 

"You were just worried about the Narnians," William answered before Luke could tell her that she'd been saying his name.

 

Luke frowned when Will spoiled his fun. "Yes," he decided to agree aloud. "It's so you; worrying about the furry, talking animals."

 

"I hope it was only a dream." Elizabeth commented, "And nothing we need to worry about for the Narnians."

 

"Those fury, talking animals could use you too," Alexandria pointed out to Luke quietly. Still softly, she continued, "Sometimes it's the things that make us feel uncomfortable that we need to be near. The ones that ignore cries for help are left alone themselves..."

 

William raised an eyebrow. It was strange that Alexandria wasn't yelling at Luke by now.

 

Elizabeth shifted in her seat, Alex's almost calm attitude seemed strange compared to her usual self. "If we can help people here, I'm sure we will try." she said, nervously. "Right Luke?" she gave him a serious look.

 

"Of course," Luke replied seriously. "You don't have to worry about me."

 

"Then that's settled," Alexandria kept her calm composure.
