The Chronicles of Narnia: The Middle

Prince Caspian turned back around noticing more and more of Anvard starting to come into view, "yes miss Elizabeth that would be my home..." he said with a soft sigh hoping none of them heard it. He understood it was probably something not beheld by them, but to him it was the opposite of exciting.

 

Elizabeth caught the less than happy note in his voice. "Is something wrong?" she asked, looking away from the city that was more visible the closer they came, to him.

 

Prince Caspian sighed softly noticing that his earlier sigh had not gone unnoticed, "perhaps I could speak with you later tonight then miss Elizabeth...for now though I wish not to take your eyes off things you find wonderful..."

 

"I'd rather hear why you sound so unhappy about it." Elizabeth pressed. "I mean if you don't want to talk about it, that's fine." she quickly added, not wanting to make him uncomfortable.

 

Prince Caspian shook his head softly, "its ok Elizabeth...later tonight I shall explain to you...I promise..." he said trying to get her to just forget about it, feeling guilty now that she no longer seemed to be happy.

 

Elizabeth nodded. "Alright." she agreed, dropping the subject. "Trufflehuter talked about someone called Aslan when we first met him." she began, remembering how the badger had called him a king. "Will we meet him here?"

 

Alexandria's attention was regained at the mention of Alsan. She was very interested to hear what Caspian's response would be.

 

Luke raised his eyes at Elizabeth's question. She isn't the brightest, is she? he thought, a little exasperated. She should know anything that talking animal spoke about shouldn't be discussed in front of this prince...

All the same, he kept his face neutral and waited for the reply, curious as to the standing between the people like Trufflehunter and these humans was.

 

OOC: To keep the thread moving, and so it doesn't get closed, I'll be taking over Caspian until Last comes back.

BIC: "Aslan is a legend," Caspian replied. "My professor told me much about him, but he has been seen by no one, not even the Narnians, for a very long time."

Alexandria lowered her head back to stare at the ground, deflated by the thought that Alsan could possibly just be a myth.

 

"That's odd... I wonder if he's real or not." Elizabeth commented, thinking over everything Trufflehunter had said. Didn't he say something about those four siblings?... I wonder how they fit into all this. she thought to herself. "What do the legends say about him?"

 

"He was king of Narnia," Caspian answered.

"Until the Telmarines arrived," Alexandria concluded under her breath.

 

"He must have been a great king to be a legend." Elizabeth mused. "When was he King, according to them?"

 

"I can't say," Caspian replied. "The text isn't very specific on him."

 

"Why did your people take his place?" Luke asked, a little rudely. "I mean, if he was such a great king, what need did this place have for you and your kind?"

 

"That I do not know the answer to," Caspian told Luke. "It has been many years since my people first came here, and I was not alive then."

"Don't you have a school system? A place where you can learn about the past?" Alexandria questioned.

"They only teach what we need to know," Caspian turned his attention to Alexandria. "I am going to be king, so I learn about being a king."

 

"Sounds like an amazing school system to me!" Luke exclaimed. "You wouldn't believe all the junk we have to learn that we never will use. We should all go to school here instead!"

 

"I thought you said you just wanted to go home," Alexandria looked at Luke now, her tone grumpy as could be.

 

Elizabeth smiled, "Ah, you know Luke, anything to get out of school." she looked up again at the fast approching buildings

 

"Seems Liz knows me better," Luke smirked, giving Alex a funny look. "Don't you agree, though? These Telmarines don't seem to have such a bad way of life."

 

"As far as I know, they're dictators," Alexandria retorted to Luke. "Don't you care about the problems here?"

Caspian listened to Alexandria and Luke's quarrel, wondering what kind of relationship they had.
