The Game

She smiled, struggling to stay awake. She didn't like to sleep. It was harder then waking up. "Do you have any family left?" she asked, her voice low.

 

"Yeah my father but we don't realy see eye to eye," Nox said. He didn't like bringing up his father.

 

Aly nodded, forcing her eyes open. "My dad and I were like that.....he's the main reason I left home.." she murmured.

 

"He is the reason I left home," Nox said bitterly.

 

She looked up at him, sympathy in her eyes. "I'm sorry....there's no chance you two can make up?"

 

"No. I don't see it happening," Nox said.

 

Aly smiled sympathetically, and looked away. "I'm sorry for your loss." she murmured, playing with her hands. She didn't know what else to say.

 

'Don't be sorry none of it was your fault,' Nox said softly.

 

She shrugged. "We sometimes wish we could change other people's lives, or their courses in life. I can be empathetic. Sometimes." she grinned. "You don't want to see me around the other obnoxious guys."

 

'I don't think we'll run into any for a while,' Nox said, 'you know I was afraid you would hate me when we met.'

 

She tilted er head. "Why? I don't look that bad do I?"

 

'I,m a Darkra soilder,' Nox said, 'enough said.'

 

Wriggling a little, she turned to look back at him. "A soldier, hm? It's not all that bad. We could be a little more tolerant of each other." She smiled. "And I wouldn't have known what one would look like anyway."

 

'Your to kind for your own good,' Nox said smileing, 'it,s going to get you in troblen one day.'

 

Aly shrugged. "Then let it. Another life lesson. Don't be kind to strange guys." she grinned lopsidely, her eyes almost as bright as the stars.

 

'You chose not to folow that rule,' Nox said, 'I'm glad you didn't.'

 

She smiled, this time a little shyer, and nodded. "I'm glad I didn't too. Do ya know..it's been four months since I've spoken with another human being?"

 

"woah," Nox said surprized, "That would drive some people insanse."

 

She grinned. "Quiet is good. You can think about other things, and help repress memories. People can't hurt you if they aren't there." she murmured, drawing her knees to her chest.

 

"You've been through alot haven't you," Nox said sleeply.
