The Game

Aly nodded, then smiled, munching on some berries she had found. "We can go whenever you're ready."

 

"Did you eat through all the food already," Nox asked, "that was supose to last you for at least 5 days."

 

She giggled, nodding. "I'll be fine. I just need to eat right now." her stomach growled, to prove her point. "And I left you enough." she added.

 

Nox smiled, 'no that scach of food is yours I still have mine.'

 

She shrugged, holding it out to him. "I don't take much to keep going. My father made sure of that." she replied, keeping all traces of emotion out of her voice.

 

Nox took the small sachel and but it into his larger backpack, 'Lets get going.'

 

Aly nodded, then gestured he go first. She had no idea where they were going, after all. Just a name and a picture.

 

Nox and Aly walked for an hour to the train tracks.

 

She started humming, to think about other things. It was an old song her mother used to sing. She smiled, her memories coming alive along with the song.

 

Nox stoped, "did you hear that."

 

Aly glanced over at him. "I hear the wind, a bird, some kind of water like rushing sound, and our footsteps."

 

Nox pulled out his pistol, "we're being watched."

 

Aly nodded. "How long did it take you to figure it out?" she asked, half smiling as she kneeled down, pretending to tie her shoe.

 

"Don't try to be a show off," Nox said. He looked around. But there was nothing.

 

She shook her head. "I mean, how long have you known? And not told me?"

 

Two hands came out of the sand and grabed Nox's feet. Sevral men with rotting skin came out of the ground.

 

Aly jumped, then drew her knife, backing away. "What kind of trouble have you gotten into now?" she asked. "They don't look like gamblers to me."

 

Nox fell forward as the creacher came out of the sand. The other creachers ran at Aly.

 

Aly whirled, pulling out her second knife, then slashed at one, back flipping to a better position. "Quit lying around!" she yelled at him, her eyes intense. All her focus was on the battle.

Nox shot the creacher that knocked him down and stood up again. He fired anouther 3 shots. The crechers were easy to kill two went down with the three shots he fired.
