Because I wanna throw in my two cents.

Personally, I really liked the movie. Now, it has tons of flaws and the storytelling was inconsistent as hell. I mean, that script should have gone through another several drafts. There were some ideas that I was able to get behind. Adding that with the head-canon that developed for me throughout the story, I came out having enjoyed it. My head-canon does not excuse the mistakes, but it added to my own personal enjoyment.

Ben Affleck really owns this new version of Batman. The movie does a good job of telling his story without always having to be in your face. However, Cavill is just really weak, especially in a great cast of actors. And I actually like Eisenberg's character, and I feel he would get less hate if they made him an original character name instead of Lex Luthor.

My biggest problem is the storytelling. Scenes didn't connect at all. I kept thinking that if you tried to cut the first phase of marvel movies into one 2 hour movie, it would look a lot like this. And that's kinda what the studio was trying to do.

And I actually liked how it ended. It goes into some stuff that Man of Steel was trying to do, but I'll save that for myself because, well, spoilers.

I like to think that I'm very literate when it comes to watching movies, but I didn't see see Superman's death coming when it was laid out since Man of Steel. I know that there's a comic out there called "The Death of Superman" which has Doomsday, but I always figured (since I didn't read it) that Doomsday has other stories as well. But, man, they had tons of Jesus imagery that they really wanted to attach to him. And I mean going down to the fact that he's 30 in Man of Steel, I think, and then he dies three years later. And not only that, they release it on Easter Weekend?! Just like Superman with the bomb, my focus wasn't on it and I can't believe I missed it.

And, of course, there's the whole "Martha" thing. I knew that they would have to end the fight with them coming together, but that was just completely out of left field. That being said, I actually liked it. Trust me, if you look at that moment by yourself, it's stupid. If you look at it in context, it's still stupid. But the movie put a lot of ground work into Bruce mourning over his mother, thinking he could've done something. He's become a hardened person, and it's the reminder of his mother, why he probably became Batman in the first place, that brings him back. These two are connected because it's their mothers that helped shaped who they became. Yes, it's a stupid thing practically, but I liked the emotional resonance.

Overall, 6.5 out of 10, but will definitely be watching it again.

The BVM shot isn't mine.

So the 3DS version of Ecco the Dolphin has this quirky CRT filter and look at it, it's so close to being a nice compromise, you guys. It just is too soft (whereas vanilla is a little sharp imo) and it does this awful like... fish eye warping when you scroll, ugh. CRTs may have screen curvature but they don't... They don't do that. I'd play it with that filter on 100% of the time if it didn't, and if they sharpened it up a tad. Cry. It's a cute extra feature tho.

my non-spoiler dd s2 thoughts. it may influence the way you view it though.

dd s2 is the dark knight rises to dd s1's batman begins. its good, bus not as good, and by the end you cant help but wonder where that magic that seemed so effortless went. not wholly disappointing, but comparatively so to something that's, without speaking in hyperbole, the best comic book adaptation ive seen. give me one more season and then be done with this character.

I'm on Episode 10 of 12 so far and no way is this comparable to The Dark Knight Rises because that film was just an utter mess in every way. My main issues with this season have been with Elektra feeling like a distraction from the story, but otherwise it's still really damn good.

But I do think we'd be fine ending it after the next season.

it's like if empire strikes back wasnt one of the best movies. its like if empire strikes back was just kinda okay. what makes dd s2 disappointing is not that its not as good as s1, its that whats happening in it requires it to be good for the sake of the larger story at play. but its just not as good as it needs to be. everything thats happening is a big ****ing deal and it's being pulled in two directions, punisher and elektra. it may not be as messy as rises but its not as crisp and clean as s1 by a long shot.

the point is dd s2 is just "good" where dd s1 was "oh my god this is literally the best thing ever"

I get what you're trying to say, but I don't think it's anywhere near that big a gap of quality personally.

The Punisher stuff, the Wilson Fisk stuff, and the court stuff are all super interesting and well-done to me, but the Hand is just decent and Elektra is just overused. What I think they should have done is do a few flashbacks, but hold off on showing her as the assassin until near the finale. My girlfriend and I feel like it's maybe two episodes too long because of Elektra and her backstory. They felt like distractions from Matt's story rather than enhancements.

There are so few things Rises did well to me that I just found the comparison too far removed. /shrug

For me: DD S2 is "great" while DD S1 is "near perfect"

zack snyder needs to be more careful about the movies he puts out. everything wrong with bvs and mos was very clearly because of him. so when future dc movies come out that will most certainly be better than anything he's done and go against the things he's done in them as openly as they possibly can, he very much could become like public enemy number 1 in comic book movies. ben affleck was not happy with snyder for the things he did after shooting, and given that he's writing and directing the batman stand-alone it's entirely possible that he tries to right the wrongs snyder did. and whatver the presumed next superman movie is will have to iron out that characters moral compass that currently is non-existant thanks to snyder. my point is we're two movies into this series, both of which are directed by snyder, both of which are very polarizing if not just disliked, and everything aside form JL that's coming after it seems to have much more potential because it will have hindsight into what bvs and mos did wrong because of snyder, and they're not directed by snyder.

I agree with basically all of this, though I think he'll have competition for public enemy number 1 in comic book movies with Joel Schumacher, who's still getting shit for Batman and Robin.

I'm very excited for the movie that Ben Affleck is working on, because he gave the best performance so far of the Snyder-verse (not like there's much to compete with) and what I've seen of his directing and writing has been pretty good.

 

the difference is that the problem with schumacher's movies was studio interference. this is entirely snyder's fault. also, batman and robin may have been bad, but it was a harmless bad. so what if a batman movie comes out and it sucks, they'll just make another one in a couple years. bvs very well could have ruined the entire dc movie verse unless other creators are willing to unabashedly deny it and zak snyders nonsense. because what we have here is the beginning of something that is inherently flawed. it cant get better given what we have because, without spoiling anything, bvs took some extreme liberties for what is only the 2nd movie in a series with characters that could have been made to be good characters but weren't because snyder wants gratuitous consequence-free action. now im just ranting. i kinda hate snyde. for whatever reason he keeps getting these important projects that need to be handled with care, but zack snyders not a guy who should be given anything other than the next fast and furious movie. this must be what people who care about transformers feel like.

Very true. Schumacher was making movies before cinematic universes were a thing. Snyder...oi.
