i was typing that before i saw your post
i honestly dont think elseworld status has much bearing on this. people are complaining that the icon that is captain america has been turned into a nazi, not the current continuity that was rebranded in 2015 and the current status quo of mainstream 616 captain america is now a nazi. i really think the difference is that internet communities are now the central communities for this type of culture and that the mcu films are at the center of internet fanbases. in 2003 internet stuff was so much smaller and live action superman movies were nowhere in current consciousness, so media attention to that would have been like none, and the only people who would have cared would have been the people who followed what was coming out at the time. also people shouldnt be too quick to feel betrayed they should be interested to see what happens next if not trepidatious

Eh, I personally don't think the twist would have mattered as much if it weren't for Marvel basically saying "This is the only Steve Rogers now" with the All-New, All Different thing (if I'm not mistaken?) But my perspective is only my own.

Like yeah, there have been other people posing as Cap, but I don't know a canon storyline where Steve was turned into the antithesis of his character. I think I'm able to see why many of his fans are really annoyed with the twist being what it is regardless of the justification.

but like saying that he's the antithesis is still assuming we know what happens. what if he's undercover or something like that? there are so many ways to turn this situation around. and how many of those fans who are upset are fans of the comics first and not fans of chris evans first? ive been seeing the reaction to this play out in multiple places i think its very telling that the reactions im seeing from people who are comic fans first are almost entirely level-headed wait and see reactions, and the people losing their minds are movie fans first. not saying theres necessarily anything wrong with being a movie fan first, but i think being one creates slightly different perceptions of what these characters are and whats to be expected of the source material.

My perspective is that it doesn't matter how they justify it: the damage (for certain people, not all obviously) is done by doing this cheap twist at all of making him the antithesis.

I've seen plenty of people on other places who I can only assume are comic fans first share my disdain for what's going on, so it's really just a mixed bag from what I can tell.

Take that back G is fantastically stupid, it's basically the Top Gun + Extra Racist 1980's Martial Arts Tournament Movie of Gundam

nah its the fanfic super robot version that spits on everything gundam's supposed to be about and sets a precedent that these spin-off series dont have to maintain the characteristic qualities of the franchise as long as they have big robots and the main one is red/white/blue/yellow. most of those spin-off series watch like horrible fanfic "well my gundam is SUPER AWESOME AND CAN GO SUPER SAIYAN AND HAS ANGEL WINGS AND" and atp we're so far removed from the real robot politically charged genuine sci-fi that the glorious, glorious universal century timeline is. thats part of why i still like seed so much regardless of it being the first gundam i saw. its the closest thing we've got to what this was originally intended to be but is also very accesible for newcomers and doesnt feel like its just copying uc because the earth/colonly conflict is not the same. and thats not to say that gundam is ONLY gundam if it's what tomino wanted. i like x, turn a, and reconguista to an extent (reconguista by virtue that it's post-universal century), but in most cases, in trying to make something unique they make something thats basically gundam in name only. universal century is really the only gundam that matters. and some of those shows may be "good" but for my time its not gundam unless its real robot and bona fide sci fi. and thats my little gundam rant ive had holstered for a while now

ps my original post was me being a snarky butt. ive seen three minutes of ibo ep 1

While the upgrade's still free, I'm thinking about upgrading my laptop to Windows 10. Is it better than Windows 8.1? I'll be staying with Windows 7 for now on my desktop, and I personally don't dislike Windows 8.1, but just wondering if Windows 8.1 to Window 10 is worth it is unlike Window 7 to Windows 10 like my mom did, though she's happy with it and hasn't had any problems.

I now remember that the only thing is that some spying settings, like to track data, are on by default now rather than off, but I don't think they're necessarily evil considering they're from Microsoft.
